Palestinian journalist reduces news anchor to tears during live broadcast

Journalist Salman Al-Bashir made an impassioned plea after hearing that his colleague was killed by an israeli airstrike during a live broadcast.

Removing his protective gear, he said: “We can’t take it anymore, we are exhausted. We are victims. The only difference between us is the time of death.

“We are killed one after another. And no one cares about the catastrophe or the crime that we endure in Gaza. No protection for anyone or anything. This gear and helmet do not protect any journalist, they are just empty slogans. We are victims, live on air. We are victims awaiting our turn to be killed,” Al-Bashir said while the anchor broke down in tears.

“Mohammad was here half an hour ago. Now he lies dead with his family in this same hospital.”

The Palestinian death toll from nearly four weeks of Israeli air and artillery strikes on the blockaded enclave rose past 9,000 on Thursday, Gaza health authorities said

The “targeted attacks on Hamas” are deliberately killing the credible witnesses to war crimes. They are killing the people who are documenting the atrocities, they are killing the people who are showing the outside world what the outside would like to forget about.

It is indeed. When reading these news I'm always divided between extreme sadness and extreme anger at the impunity of the genociders and the deafening silence of the hypocrites.

I think we're all affected for life by this.
This is so cruel; so unjust. Happening before our eyes. Everything is in the open now. We no longer can conveniently ignore what's been happening there for a long time now.

Al jazeera is utterly terrifying now. Showing exactly what is happening in Gaza. I just have no words. And I'm still seeing the apologists for Israel here. And on tv, looking at you Anthony Blinken.

Im trying to find out more about oil or something outside Gaza, im sure i read that or am i havering?

SomeoneBurntTheToastAgain · 03/11/2023 22:16

It’s so very tragic. We are witnessing a genocide. It feels like the press is deliberately being targeted so they can’t report the atrocities.

Roste · 03/11/2023 22:17

The lengths that the psychotic Israeli government are going to in this ‘war’. Targeting journalists and their families, targeting ambulances and schools in their quest to annihilate Palestinians. It is all so grotesque and scarcely believable.

MumUndone · 03/11/2023 22:22

This is a very interesting article, particularly point 4 about Netanyahu's divide and conquer approach, intentionally allowing Hamas to build power in Gaza.

I’ve been reading mumsnet for 3 years now but have never bothered to make an account, but have just created one to say that I totally agree with the feelings you all describe. Although there is so little we can do, I have written to my MP several times and I shall be going to a peaceful demonstration in support of the Palestinians tomorrow. I think it is important to do this to show our (useless) government that we do not condone them turning a blind eye these to war crimes and that we demand more. Also I am white and I feel the government are trying to turn this into another culture war and demonise Muslims, so I think it’s even more important to go to the demonstrations and show solidarity.

Did you know, nato have even positioned war ships nearby to protect the Israeli army, should anyone else try to get involved to protect the Palestinians. Britain is also still supplying arms to Israel. It is truly sick.

They must quite enjoy the power of getting to see huge numbers of people die based on their decisions.

On top of that they profit from it whilst getting a shot at playing The Great Wartime Statesman, which makes it all the more exciting for them.

Rishi Sunak was practically oscillating with excitement about it all when he met Netanyahu.

In short, they’re psychopathic.

Roste · 03/11/2023 22:41

@OneHurtSpaggettio , yes Sunak was having his own little Blair moment, another U.K. leader gadding about with the big boys to decimate innocent civilians.

It's our duty as humans to speak out against the outrageous atrocities committed brazenly against innocent people with the complicity of the supposedly "free" world. The least each one of us should do is to spread awareness and debunk myths regarding what's going on and fight misinformation and propaganda.
And yes the US is also using drones and supplying equipment, etc.

I didn't use to watch Al-Jazeera but now it's almost the only one that's giving accurate information. The level of manipulation and misinformation of the mass media regarding the current events is simply unbelievable.

Why are Al Jazeera the only news agency giving rolling coverage? Even Reuters and Associated Press aren't providing live updates.

Overnight Al Jazeera have reported attacks on a water tanker, fishing boats, a school, a children's hospital, a mosque and residential buildings with solar panels.

When are the international community going to step in and say enough is enough. It's unbearable watching and all our fucking useless politicians can do is say Israel has a right to defend itself but must take steps to minimise civilian casualties. Is there a single one with a shred of humanity?

ssd · 04/11/2023 07:43

There was a poster here a few days ago saying how she believed Israel lives were more important than gazan lives. She'd had friend loose children in the oct 7 attack which was awful. But i commented on her saying she believed one set of lives was more important to her than the other as i thought it was a terrible thing to say. I was hounded on here and one poster really laid into me personally, that post was deleted by mn. I was told i was putting words in her mouth but i quoted directly from her post. Its awful how people can believe one set of peoples are more important than others. Even if you identify more with one set this is still fundamentally wrong.
