Palestinian journalist reduces news anchor to tears during live broadcast

Journalist Salman Al-Bashir made an impassioned plea after hearing that his colleague was killed by an israeli airstrike during a live broadcast.

Removing his protective gear, he said: “We can’t take it anymore, we are exhausted. We are victims. The only difference between us is the time of death.

“We are killed one after another. And no one cares about the catastrophe or the crime that we endure in Gaza. No protection for anyone or anything. This gear and helmet do not protect any journalist, they are just empty slogans. We are victims, live on air. We are victims awaiting our turn to be killed,” Al-Bashir said while the anchor broke down in tears.

“Mohammad was here half an hour ago. Now he lies dead with his family in this same hospital.”

The Palestinian death toll from nearly four weeks of Israeli air and artillery strikes on the blockaded enclave rose past 9,000 on Thursday, Gaza health authorities said

There was a poster here a few days ago saying how she believed Israel lives were more important than gazan lives. She'd had friend loose children in the oct 7 attack which was awful. But i commented on her saying she believed one set of lives was more important to her than the other as i thought it was a terrible thing to say. I was hounded on here and one poster really laid into me personally, that post was deleted by mn. I was told i was putting words in her mouth but i quoted directly from her post. Its awful how people can believe one set of peoples are more important than others. Even if you identify more with one set this is still fundamentally wrong.

It's the same few posters who wax lyrical about Israeli lives as if the IDF isn't committing war crimes in front of the world.

Meanwhile in West Bank, the IDF are removing more Palestinians from their homes, telling them to leave or be killed. Whats the excuse they're use for that?

Why are Al Jazeera the only news agency giving rolling coverage? Even Reuters and Associated Press aren't providing live updates.

Overnight Al Jazeera have reported attacks on a water tanker, fishing boats, a school, a children's hospital, a mosque and residential buildings with solar panels.

When are the international community going to step in and say enough is enough. It's unbearable watching and all our fucking useless politicians can do is say Israel has a right to defend itself but must take steps to minimise civilian casualties. Is there a single one with a shred of humanity?

So heart breaking! It's frightening how the IDF just do whatever they want to anyone without consequence. I can't imagine what it must be like for the reporters being trapped in Gaza with a target on their backs. Their courage is amazing. I felt sorry for the woman crying, too. It must be horrible watching your colleagues and their families being murdered and not being able to do anything about it.

The lengths that the psychotic Israeli government are going to in this ‘war’. Targeting journalists and their families, targeting ambulances and schools in their quest to annihilate Palestinians. It is all so grotesque and scarcely believable.

I'm struggling to see how anyone can keep defending this

ssd · 08/11/2023 12:25

Oil. Its always oil.

ketchup07070 · 08/11/2023 12:32

@ssd There's money to be made, for sure. It's a part of this puzzle, perhaps.

Next time I fill up my car I'll be thinking of the kids buried alive under rubble. Thanks BP et al.

I know this article isn’t about journalists, but I just read it and didn’t know where to post it. The article covers three lives, but their stories are the stories of thousands of people in Gaza right now. Truly heartbreaking, like everything we’ve been reading since Oct 7th. How much longer will the world let this go on.

‘Why didn’t we die together?’: the last survivors of three Gaza families speak

Ohlalalalala · 09/11/2023 18:36

Well ladies it might not be for oil after all, or at least not solely:

An alternative to the Suez Canal is central to Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians

https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20231105-an-alternative-to-the-suez-canal-is-central-to-israels-genocide-of-the-palestinians/

Development of energy sector in Gaza while creating an alternative to the Suez Canal which will generate huge profits.

😡😡😡

It's appalling. And I am sick to death of hearing Matt Frei (channel 4) trying to ask questions of Israeli spokespeople who have rehearsed a speech and are going to give that speech, talking over him, not answering his questions and pretending they're the good guys. Behaving just like the dangerous person in a thoroughly abusive relationship. Which it is, and Israel is not the victim they try to pretend it is. It is the worst sort of perp and it's time we treated them like that.

But, oh, we have alliances, we have diplomacy, we have so much else apparently riding on keeping US sweet and some others, that we're very prepared to sacrifice what will be millions of Palestinians to maintain those relationships.

Oh and oil. Of course.

So much for British fair play, the Rule of Law, or Justice etc. All those things started flying out the window under Thatcher, but it's not like Blair tried to stop it, quite the opposite. No, Governmentally we Brits are shit and have zero integrity I'm afraid. I'm ashamed of my country in a way I never was before.

I'm blethering. Ignore me.

There are many other conflicts in the world that don't get even a mention in the news, let alone ","rolling coverage". I suppose Al Jazeera is based in the same region.

Unfortunately we don’t live in a country where politicians are there to protect moral interests, just the financial and politically strategic interests of people who are far, far wealthier than us. It’s never the people at the top getting killed.

It's infuriating and shameful, how we deal with the world at large, the crap we perpetrated and led to the way in. OK, we've done some good things (have we?) maybe, but we ignore so much that is inconvenient to alliances and special interests (ie the very wealthy population). Not in my name and all that, but none of that lot are listening.

I think you have to be a total bastard to get anywhere near power.

Sad but mostly true 😔

Let's hope for the best. Peace and justice for all the persecuted peoples in the world.

Ethiopia

This one has been going on for 30 years.

You don't give a shit? About the genocide, the rapes, the killing of children.

None of you do?

And it has been going on with Palestinians for 75 years and only now is the world speaking up. It's unfortunate that it has to get to the point of Israel feeling safe to slaughter 1000s of people in the space of a month before it became mainstream knowledge.
