Neeko · 22/02/2010 10:29

Morning all! How are you all today? Bet Barbie's smile is the biggest
I've made an impressive start to my maternity leave by cleaning like mad. My washing machine is on its tenth load since Saturday morning and is wondering what it's done wrong!
Having a rest now with MN and my 1st cup of raspberry leaf tea before starting again. Know the enthusiasm won't last!

anniebigpants · 22/02/2010 10:44

Morning all, just having 10 mins on MN while DS2 has gone down for nap(and boy did he take some settling down for a nap, he is trouble that boy!)
Bet it feels great to have started maternity leave neeko? I love cleaning, especially when DS1 is at nursery, so the house has chance to look lovely, until he gets home and has toys everywhere!
Im shattered today, had bad night with Ellis, think he must be going through growth spurt (he 13 weeks on Wednesday) i was up a lot of the night either feeding or settling him, been like that for past 3 nights now.

Neeko · 22/02/2010 11:04

Oh Annie You must be shattered. Now get off MN and put your feet up for 5 mins with some cold tea bags on your eye bags! Can't believe E is 13 weeks already - time is flying. Hope you get a good few hours of unbroken sleep tonight. x

VJay · 22/02/2010 11:22

Hiya, still here for barbie, can't wait to see pics

annie it does sound like a growth spurt, they are supposed to have one around 12/13 weeks, I know Ajay did and it was tiring , also can't believe E is 13 weeks

Hi neeko you can come round to mine and tidy here too if you wnat , also can't believe you're next , time has flown

Right off to do my shopping, be back later xx

cupcakefairy · 22/02/2010 12:36

Barbie massive congratulations. Was quite emotional when 4ever text me the news yesterday. beautiful beautiful name. Well done you!

Neeko no we absolutely do not want to queue jump take your turn please and I will just stay here in denial that I'm THIRD on the list

Hi baking lovely to see you popping your head round the door.

I have the actual wriggliest baby ever.. last night it kept making me lurch every time it kicked it really doesn't have enough room in there

Neeko · 22/02/2010 13:26

Cupcake You should have worked harder on expanding your tummy with chocolate before you got pregnant The baby is just getting rid of all it's energy so that it'll sleep all night when it's born.

Vjay I'm sure the enthusiasm for tidying will have worn off before I'm finished on my own house. Hope you treat yourself to something yummy at the shops.

DD is at nursery and i don't quite know what to do with myself . Midwife is coming at 2 to do my birth plan (as if you can plan such things!) I'm sure it's just an excuse to check that we don't live in a hovel. Good job I was so busy cleaning this morning. Have done so much washing the house smells of comfort pure!

4ever You've been quiet - are you ok?

MLS In 48 hours you'll know!(and I think you'll be smiling)

Did/does anyone else have varicose veins. I have a small one below my left knee (gross). Is it true that they disappear after delivery or will I have it forever?

4everhopeful · 22/02/2010 15:24

Hello lovely ladies! Im also still grinning for Barbie & cant wait to see pics! Just back from work & pretty achey from being crunched at my desk so apologies in advance for lack of personals!

Neeko I have visions of Monica on a housecleaning mission! A good way to start your mat leave - bring on the nesting, Im sure the midwife will be suitably impressed! Id love home visits, Iv still barely seen a midwife as only see the consultant at each ante natal, but I will be requesting a meeting with one when I next see him, & the parenting classes start soon! Re varicose veins Ive had a big one on inside of my leg since early twenties, and has got progressively worse with this preg so Im hoping it gets progressively better afterwards!

Thanks for asking - Im ok, but quite weebly about my scan tomorrow (10.30am for united crossed fingers etc please!!!) they are mainly monitoring her growth cos of the 2 vessel cord, and the uterine artery flow which was a bit low compared to previous scans, but I also want to double check her heart & kidneys arent being affected by it, as well as my ongoing worry about leaking amnio fluid! Its been the longest time between scans so will no doubt be a bit of a wreck tomorrow morning..

Talking of scans - MLS Im also holding your hand tightly in advance of Wednesday.. Its all been sounding very good for you though sweetie.. Did you tell your parents when you stayed there? Will you have someone to go with you and hold your hand in RL? Obviously we will all be in the room with you cheering you on too!

Cupcake I do wonder if you are having a boy seeing as bubs is such a little wriggler?! My bubba has moments of intense movement but also seems to love her sleep, occasionaly I freak myself out she's not moving enough! Yay to buying things for baby & mat clothes! Sainsburys has a 1/3rd off baby products,DH & I were gonna start picking up a pack of nappies/wipes etc at each weekly shop to stagger the cost & were gonna wait til tomorrows scan but cos of that deal we got loads of bits on Friday, inc the steriliser! Felt sick paying for it though, DH looked worried & I said 'do you think we shouldnt be buying it yet?' He said 'no Im worried about the cost!' Did spend about 40quid on stuff!

Iggy have you seen those 'hands off my bump' tee shirts? I think New Look may do them!

Gracie may I possibly take you up on your offer of that CD? I think I could do with something to chill me out a bit! Ive been a bit of an anxious weeble of late!

Annie Im also in shock here that E is 13 weeks already! Hope you get a better sleep tonight!

Vjay hows your wee bundles doing? You too Curly?

Nice to 'see' you popping in Mermaid! Hope you had a nice break with sis & are considering a bit of forward pedalling to the golf course?!

Hows Jools doing too? Did you ever get that bag back?

OK - my bodys shot! Its been used to comfy sofas and bed, it cant handle sitting at a desk! Owwwww! My shoulder hurts and my ribs ache - need to stretch out! I shall be weebling away & lurking til tomorrow, Ill text an update re the scan, am soooooooooooooo crapping myself just praying bubba is growing ok

Lotsa love all - big waves & apologies to those I missed x x x x x

iggypiggy · 22/02/2010 15:34

4ever will def be thinking of you for the scan tomorrow. I will look out for those t-shirts too!

So everyone - can I ask your advice? When would you suggest I start my maternity leave? Bear in mind I am due in July - am wondering if the heat might hamper me a little?

4everhopeful · 22/02/2010 15:54

Thanks iggy! ...Im in same dilemma re mat leave as really dont wanna be back at work! I always thought 2wks before due date if i could manage it, but i just put in for 5weeks before, however am considering making that even earlier, but my situations being massively complicated by impending redundancy as will prob get majority of mat pay as lump sum with redundancy pay, however for tax reasons (& health/anxiety!) I might need to take it earlier still after all! All depends what you do? Mainly standing or sitting? Whats your commute like too? All factors to consider! X

Neeko · 22/02/2010 16:01

Hi 4ever Good luck for tomorrow. Babygirl4ever will be fine. Do you have a birthing ball? Stretching over it should solve your aches and pains. Tell DH that £40 is a drop in the ocean compared to what you'll pay over the next couple of years on things to make your DD's bum smell nice!

Iggy I think Mothercare do those tshirts too. Read on another thread about a woman who took hold of the hands of anyone who touched her bump without asking and said "You do know you have your hands on my uterus don't you?"
Re mat leave, it depends on how long you're taking off because you want to have as much time with the baby afterwards. i'd try to go to 36-37 weeks if you can since it's your 1st but bear in mind that you can be signed off before 36 weeks if necesary without your work being able to force you to start mat leave. HTH.

Have discovered that the loft has not been kind to my breast pump so i'll need to buy a new one. I had the Medula manual one and it was fine but would I be better with an electric one? Ideas anyone?

iggypiggy · 22/02/2010 16:08

4ever I mainly sit at a desk - and I live 10 mins drive from home - so is not bad. Also is 9 - 5pm so not long hours or anything.

neeko that's a good response - to be honest I was so shocked - I hardly have a bump at all - but one of the girls was prodding me saying 'but what does it feel like?!' re: leave - am taking a year off... and I do acrue leave whilst on mat leave, so can use that at the end of the mat leave to make the last month off fully paid. thanks for advice!

bluesatinsash · 22/02/2010 16:08

Hi guys,

Small window of opportunity to catch up

Still for barbie too!!!

4ever and Iggy - it is personal choice but I finished up four weeks before EDD with DS1 (he was due 2/6/06) and they were some of the happiest weeks of my life as it was gorgeous weather and the feeling of pottering around/sunbathing in garden (my bump was v. tanned [smile}) knowing I would have a baby soon was just magical. I also savoured tthese last few weeks of just me and DH and made sure I met up with friends for lunch. Also ordered an amount of baby things over internet. You will never again have 'me'tme after your first lo is here so grasp it and hold it tight!

4ever - will be thinking about you tomorrow honey, as always, holding that hand of yours tight xx

annie - 13 weeks Totally with you on loving the tidy house when DS1 is away! Hope E's napping gets easier. We've started putting B down in his cot for day time naps so he can get used to his room and get some peace from his Star Wars battling big brother

MLS - my other hand is squeezing yours for Wed xx

Neekodusterarmedanddangerous hope you gave yourself a tea break missy!

eeep, B has woken best shoot x

Neeko · 22/02/2010 16:28

Blue you always sound soo chilled - are you? Thanks for the advice. Think I may ask my brother for some Boots vouchers (He's nipping my head about a present for the baby) and put them towards it. Have had tea breaks, chocolate breaks, crisp breaks...
Did you phone about Ben's christening yet?

Iggy I agree with Blue about really enjoying my time off before DD was born. A year off sounds amazing!

4ever have a notion for mini toblerones now!
