TTC after coming off the pill - Anyone else?

Hi I took my last pill on the 4th July and took 33 days to get AF. Now suffering as AF is really heavy and got stomach cramps - I forgot the pleasures of real AF as been on pill without much of a real break for about 4 years again!

(I was on Microgynon)

Anyone else TTC after coming off the pill? What are your experiences?

hi rimmer,
I came off the pill at the beginning of sept and had a "real" period 29 days later so id say that was pretty normal. There is so link between how long you take the pill for and how long it takes for your cycle to settle down.
It could take one month it could take 5, all you can do is wait really and hope for the best.

Stellybelly · 10/10/2009 22:13

When I was on Dianette for several years when I was younger, it took about 9 months for my periods to return! But on Femodette (which I have tried to come off before tempoarily) it seemed to return more or less immediately so I think it has alot to do with the dose of the pill that you are on personally.

Got REALLY bad tummy cramps tonight and is only CD6 after coming off pill. Think everything is swinging back in action... ouch!

rimmer08 · 11/10/2009 14:32

thanks tish!! its all jolly exciting isnt it!! have to wait though as might have gastritis

TishTosh21 · 11/10/2009 17:33

oh dear! that doesnt sound too pleasant, hope things are ok for you. Ive got to wait ages now to take a test, if my dates are 29 days its the 4th nov

At least that gives me plenty of time for baby making practice!

rimmer08 · 11/10/2009 20:24

inflamation of stomach lining maybe. want to wait until they know whats wrong with me as wont be able to take the meds/have an operation if pregnant.

TishTosh21 · 11/10/2009 21:42

Yeah better to be on the safe side, you want to at your best health for preg, says me who cant get to the gym to save my life! really should start eating a bit healthier hehe.

rimmer08 · 12/10/2009 20:51

ha ha defo!! healthy eating is over rated- its why i go to the gym instead!!

EmNotPGYet · 12/10/2009 22:45

Just to say my first proper AF after 10 years on the pill arrived yesterday bang on day 29, so a regular 28 day cycle, in fact it came on the same day it would have done had I been taking the pill! It has felt different from my pill withdrawal bleeds - I have felt quite queasy and bloated and my tummy has been sensitive, but even that has worn off by this evening, and it really hasn't been painful at all compared to the withdrawal bleeds. I always used to have about 12 hours of pretty agonising pains, which I haven't had at all this time. Quite a pleasant surprise after reading other people's experiences! I remember my first period on the pill being a blessed relief as my periods used to be so painful before, so I was kind of dreading this.

Of course the downside is that I'm not PG - never mind, lots more fun trying this month...

TishTosh21 · 13/10/2009 17:25

Hi em i was the same mine came bang on day 29. Also the bleeding wasnt as bad as i was expecting either, i thought also that the withdrawal bleeds on the pill were worse!
Im glad i know my dates now though, with lots of fun trying this month!

rimmer08 · 14/10/2009 16:59

i get confused when people on here talk really methodically about cycles etc. surely you should just have plenty of sex!!?? i know i am wrong but be kind- have never tried before

meggles · 16/10/2009 09:54

mazza999 · 01/11/2009 12:58

Hi I'm new to Mum's net. I just wondered if anyone has experience/advice for my issue.
I'm 26 and was on microgynon 30 for 9 years. I came off the pill in the middle of June 2009 and we starting trying to conceive at the beginning of August 2009. My first period after the pill was 26 days so average. Since then my cycle has gone 34 days (July),32 days(August),36 days (September) and so far this month I'm on day 37 - did a pregnancy test this morning and it came back negative!! I'm trying to be patient but each month I feel more and more deflated.

Please help.
Thanks

TishTosh21 · 01/11/2009 19:00

hi mazza, im pretty much on the same path as you. was on the same pill for quite a while and came off early sept. only had one period which came after 29 days since coming off. My next one is due on tues/wed, trying not to get my hopes up too much as i know these things can take a while, especially after coming off the pill.

Have been taking folic acid tablets every day to try and help things if i am preg. Its so frustrating having so much waiting i just want it to happen this time! i must admit i dont feel pregnant at all but hopefully it will be the month that im convinced im not that it will happen.

My advice to you is to wait a couple of days and test again and keep doing this until you get a positive or your period comes. Hope its the former good luck x

mazza999 · 02/11/2009 17:11

Thanks for the advice. I'm now on day 38 and still no sign of this months period. My husband and I were going to retest at about day 40 so wednesday this week. The only sympton I'm getting is swollen and very sore breasts/nipples which I never usually get when I'm due on!

I've also been taking folic acid for about 2 months now to help when we do become pregnant. So fingers crossed.

Good luck for your test results xx

TishTosh21 · 02/11/2009 17:40

Well hopefully this is the month mazza!

Wishing you all the best of luck and let us know how it goes x

lottiG · 03/11/2009 03:25

Hi everyone, im new here aswell. its a little bit nice to have found this website and see that their are so many women experiencing what i have been experiencing. I got married in early september and as soon as my husband and i returned from our honeymoon, I went off the pill. I got a period 6 days later and nothing since... its been 35 days since the first day of my last period and all ive had is bad cramping and back pain I just want a baby!!! I also just found out i have polysystic ovaries which is unusual for my size (i weigh 55 kilos!) so im going to see a gyno tomorrow just to make sure everything is ok. does anyone know the reason for the belly pain and bad back pain?

Molly79 · 03/11/2009 21:44

Hi, I came off of the pill just over 3 weeks ago (microgynon) I had my withdrawal bleed as usual the first day would have been 4 weeks ago on thursday. I was fine to start with, then about a week and a half I had some brown discharge which I was sure was my period but it came to nothing and since then I have felt terrible! I am sick and so tired I can't explain it, I am dizzy and have on and off stomach cramps and flutterings. I did a PG test last night and it was negative do you think it might have been negative becuase it was late and I had had lots of water? I am also taking pregnacare conception which has turned my wee really yellow!!! I just want my period so I can feel better!

TishTosh21 · 04/11/2009 21:41

Hi molly, i was on the same pill as you. Im now in month 2 of TTC and my period was due today but hasnt come. Not holding out alot of hope as anything could happens at this stage.

My 'real' period came 29 days after i stopped taking the pill. I felt horrible pretty much every day for about 3 weeks after coming off the pill, convinced i was pregnant took about 4 preg tests but all neg. I think its the side effects coming off the pill, i felt sick, tired, depressed but now i think my body has started to get into a more normal pattern so im hoping ill be lucky this month. Am going to try and hold out til the weekend before testing as the days can still be a bit hazy. I know some people who are on day 35 with no period and neg test results.

Wish you all the best of luck, keep us informed of any news x

kegz1975 · 07/11/2009 09:40

I'm 34,I already have a 6 year old from my first marriage, with my son i came off microgynon in the december 2001 and then went on to only have periods every 3 months (I was never regular as clock work without the pill) but i did conceive my son 8 months later and i hadnt had a period since that may.. crazy!!!!! but it just goes to show how our bodies are all so very different. After having my son i had a coil inserted and periods stopped and then when my marriage broke down i kept it, but had it removed when my periods became more irregular and lengthy and unpredictable, so earlier this year i went back onto the pill femodene in december 2008. I have been with my partner now, 2 years this december and we talked about our plans and the future and and i came off the pill after my last pack, my last period was october 11 and this is my first month off and my period if on the pill would normally be due tomorrow 8 Nov, but past experience has shown me.. you never can tell xxx

TishTosh21 · 07/11/2009 09:48

im on cd 32...no period, havent tested yet as havent had the time (really!). Cant test til Monday but going to buy the test today. My boobs feel a tiny bit sore but nothing extreme. Feel quite tired but have put that down to being so busy at work.
I dont know what to think, i really want to be pregnant, just dont feel confident that i am.
