TTC after coming off the pill - Anyone else?

Hi I took my last pill on the 4th July and took 33 days to get AF. Now suffering as AF is really heavy and got stomach cramps - I forgot the pleasures of real AF as been on pill without much of a real break for about 4 years again!

(I was on Microgynon)

Anyone else TTC after coming off the pill? What are your experiences?

Hi, I'm new to mumsnet and was just looking for some advice on my current situation. DH and I have decided to start TTC towards the end of this year so after taking it for 10 years I have now come off the pill (6 weeks ago). I don't recall being aware of ovulating before going on the pill at age 18 but after 2 weeks of being off the pill I had sharp/aching pain in my side/front one afternoon. So I was thinking 'sweet, everything seems to be in working order', had my period 9 days later (which did concern me a little as that is on the short side for a luteal phase), then two weeks later I've had another period?! I've seen posts of people not having periods at all after coming of the pill and extremes of heavy/light and short/long periods but I can't find mention of two periods in one month. With the prospect of TTC in few months I have become rather obsessed with my bodily functions but should I be worried/see my gp or will my body just take a while to get back into rhythmn again?
Thanks for reading

I came off the pill 3 weeks ago today. I havent had an AF yet but have been TTC since the day i came off it so is poss im pg but think its too early to test.
Am going to try to wait at least another week before testing but the wait is driving me crazy!

TishTosh21 · 29/09/2009 10:26

finnibin it is normal to have periods like your describing as your body is changing after taking away those hormones you got from the pill. They will settle down after a month or so, some say it can take up to 6 months for your periods to become regular again but everyone is different.
Good luck!

Hi all,

I came off my Pill Micro 30 on 14th September. did the deed on 25th and 26th.

Have little twinges/cramps and am praying they are not period pains, I should not be due on for another 2weeks (last time I came off I was quite lucky with my cycle - touch wood this time)!

My heart is begging to be pregnant and think implantation pain but my head is saying NO it wont happen that quickly the pill wont be out of my system.

xx

misshoohaa · 30/09/2009 16:23

so how long did it take everyones cycles to become regular? i am on cylce 3. First month no idea, 2nd cycle 30 days, and this one onto day 36........no AF.

How many months did it take for you to get into a predictable cycle after coming off pill?

Day 36, getting a bit excited, but just told DP I was late, and now he is excited...... probably jinxed it!!

tobago04 · 30/09/2009 16:30

I've now had a 37 day cycle and a 44 day cycle since coming off the pill,i'm now on day 28 i think but had a bit of a brown/red bled on day 24-27,so god knows whats going on

TishTosh21 · 30/09/2009 17:01

Hi lay

I came off the same pill (micro 30) on the 8th Sept, ive had no period since then, not even spotting or withdrawal bleed.
It will be 28 days next Tues since coming off it. I dont know when my period is supposed to come as I have been using some form of contraception for 6 years (pill, then implant, then pill again) I had been "doing the deed" as you put it (!) almost every day since coming off the pill, I have had the same type of stomach cramps that you are describing and I am also praying they are not period pains, i thought at first they must be but ive had no period so im keeping my fingers crossed.

Do you know when you are going to test? Ive been told by other people to wait at least 4 weeks before testing unless my period comes. x

lay82 · 01/10/2009 10:13

Hi TishTosh21,

I am going to wait until late October to test. I say that now but will probably end up doing one in a couple of weeks as I lack will power!!

It would just be too good to be true to be pregnant. I still have the pains today and I am not convinced that conception pains would still be happening. However last time I came off my pill I never had this cramps.

TishTosh21 · 01/10/2009 10:28

I lack will power too! Its so hard not to go out and buy a test now but i know it will just be a waste of money atm. I keep thinking the longer i wait the more i will "feel" preg, as long as my AF doesnt come.

Its not impossible to get preg straight away so im sticking to the hope that it will happen.

Ive still been having period pains but no period, keeping my fingers crossed it wont come. I feel like im imagining symptoms i.e sore boobs, sickness etc.

Keep me posted with anymore news, its good to hear other peoples experiences, esp people who have come off the same pill as me. x

Hi, I'm new to mumsnet.
I came off the pill towards the end of July after being on it for 12 years. Had my first period at the end of August which was a lot lighter and less painful than expected. Started getting the usual premenstrual symptoms 3 days ago but no sign yet (it usually appears within 24 hours). Trying not to get too excited but wondering if I should do a test. What do u think?

TishTosh21 · 02/10/2009 14:58

Hi chalky
I would do a test first thing in the morning, if its neg then test again 3 days later if still no period.

Lots of luck x

chalky3 · 03/10/2009 19:06

Test done but negative. Still no sign of AF, time will tell I guess

Medee · 03/10/2009 20:18

I came off in June, and my cycle has been really long (40-42 days) with very light periods lasting only 3 days - I have no idea if I am ovualting properly, and with such a long cycle, we've actually only been trying for 2 cycles. Would like things to be on a more regular pattern.

TishTosh21 · 04/10/2009 08:59

Hi Medee, That is a very long cycle i wonder why its like that. It will be day 28 on Tues but its quite unlikley my period will come to the day. Im hoping it doesnt come at all really.
The wait really is killing me though.

Stellybelly · 08/10/2009 11:15

Hello ladies
I'm very new to this - literally just back from honeymoon and pill went in the bin on the flight home! I'm on CD4 so planning to start BD everyday once my withdrawal bleed stops! My husband isn't going to know what's hit him!

I've bought a couple of ovulation kits and hoping as I was on a lower dose pill that my cycle will return to normal fairly quickly - has anyone else had any experience with Femodette?

Really excited but don't want to get my hopes up as I know it will probably take ages.

Does anyone have any advice how soon I should stsrt using the ov kit?

rimmer08 · 09/10/2009 12:55

i am plannig to come off pill in two weeks. have been on microgynon for 14 years non stop. will be my first, am 30. not sure how things will go!!!

EmNotPGYet · 09/10/2009 13:11

I'm currently on day 26 of my first cycle off the pill - was on Microgynon 30 solidly for 10 years before this. I have just bought some HPTs at lunchtime! I am thinking of testing tomorrow morning as I have a wedding to go to where I'll probably drink loads if I get a BFN. But it's really too early to tell, I guess. Am madly symptom-spotting - have been feeling a bit faint and dizzy, and hungry all the time, but I think that;s just me!

Good luck all

TishTosh21 · 09/10/2009 13:15

Hi Em, i came off the pill on 8th Sept, i tested Tues morning which was day 28 and got a neg, then my period came the next morning, i would hold out a few more days if you can. I was getting the same symptoms that you have described and really thought i was preg but i now put it down to coming off the pill and your body getting used to not having those hormones every day.
Good luck though if you do test tomorrow.

carlyflum · 09/10/2009 17:05

Hi ladies
I am new to the site and been reading yr posts with interest, I have a query that hopefully someone can help with!
I was on the pill in September and had my usual period on 22, 23 and 24 Sep. I came off the pill on the 1st Oct and had another period on the 3,4 and 5 Oct, which I assume is my 'coming off the pill' period.
Which period date do I use to try and work out my fertile days??
Its all getting very confusing!!

TishTosh21 · 09/10/2009 17:22

Hi carly welcome to mumsnet!

I had my last pill on the 1st of sept as you prob have already read. I had my normal period a few days after this then didnt take the next pack. My next period came 29 days after this so im taking that as my first "real" period since coming off.
I would wait as the period you had starting on the 3rd oct sounds, as you say "coming off the pill period".
Whenever your next period comes i would count that as a "real" period and use those dates, it might not be a perfect 28 days later it may be more or less but would def start your dates from then.
Hope ive been of some help

carlyflum · 09/10/2009 17:31

thanks, I think I may be reading too many websites and information overload!!
Will wait for my next one and then use that as the first date, and while waiting keep practising, as you never know!
It might be true about being at your best as soon as you come off the pill!!

TishTosh21 · 09/10/2009 17:43

I hope its true as was v disappointed when period came on Wed
Trying to look on the bright side as having a proper period can reduce your risk of twins and mc.
Im trying for number 1 so twins would be way too much for me!
Hope things go well for you

bluesnowfalcon · 10/10/2009 08:02

Hi all - i haven't posted lately as been trying not to think about it all the time! AF is due on Tues so waiting and hoping but not convinced that I'll be lucky this month. This is our third cycle and I'm wishing that it would happen so that I can move forward but know that it is still to quick really! I always thought deep down that I'd conceive really quickly but guess that's what we all think

Glad some of you guys have had BFP's and for those like me still waiting for a BFP I hope it happens soon

My cycle went straight back to regular after my first withdrawl bleed and has been 33 days for the first two cycles. Was thinking if I get a BFN this time might by ovulation kits but not sure if I want to go that 'mad' yet! Any thoughts on them? Anyone using them? What are they like?
