So, I had the mirena coil out on Mon 19th Jan due to some complications. Specialist told me that the hormone in the coil had run out but would still be working as contraceptive just like non-hormone coil. So that means I would start ovulating again as the hormone had run out but the egg would not be able to implant due to the coil. Have taken other precautions (abstaining - just to be sure) for 5 days before removal (as directed) and since removal. However, I now have several pregnany symptoms. My skin has gone as spotty as when I was a teenager, have an awful metallic taste in my mouth, feeling generally ropey - really does feel like I did in v early days of being pregnant with my 2 DCs. The only way I can see that pregancy could be vaguely possible is that I released an egg which was fertilized 6 days or more before having coil removed, it then travelled down to my uterus and implanted just after I had my coil removed (possible?), which would now make me around 2 weeks since implantation - around when I would normally be able to get a pregnancy reading. I haven't had a period for years due to coil so have no idea when I should be due. I cannot get out to get a pregnancy test due to living in the back of beyond, up a very large hill covered in loads and loads of snow.....how frustrating. Am I worrying about nothing though? Just coincidence? I know the odds must be stacked against but is this even possible?

Thanks, sorry about the ramble - somewhat stressed & isolated here - thank God for t'internet.

Take a test and then you will knwo

The body is a marvelous machone and anything is possible

I think it sounds unlikely - are you now without contraception? It sounds like your body adjusting itself to normal and what you are experiencing is the bodys normal cyclical changes, or new symptoms from pill taking.

Have had a coil removed myself and my body was odd afterwards for a while.

Minxie1977 · 03/02/2009 11:25

If you're in the back of beyond, do you get post regularly? Only asking as you can get next day delivery of tests if you can't get out.

I'd say anything is possible and you know your own body

Girlinthecountry · 03/02/2009 14:05

posty hasn't appeared for last couple of days - things are thawing a bit here though so hopefully will be able to get out soon. it really would be remarkable if I was pregnant - DH really doesn't want any more, and considering all the abstaining we've been doing to ensure that we don't, think he might be suspicious aswell!!!

Shame about DH, were you hoping for more? Maybe your subconcious did the dirty for you

Girlinthecountry · 03/02/2009 22:20

nope - am quite content with my 2 DS's. we did discuss #3 at length but decided not to (so many reasons, to be honest main one being DS1 is autistic, we were v worried about the increased chance of having another autistic child and the impact of that on the 2 lovely boys we already have - also on me as I find it emotionally very distressing at times to see him struggle particularly at school). I guess if we'd have really wanted one though we would have just gone ahead anyway. Would be an interesting twist of fate if that decision was overuled by the Gods!! looks like I'll be able to go and get a test tomorrow so we may well know then. We'd be delighted I'm sure if I am - DH is a sweety and amazing dad-think he just worries about me

Good luck with the test. I think pregnancy is unlikely but certainly not impossible so all the best with whatever result you get.

Minxie1977 · 04/02/2009 12:26

It's good to know you have great support at home - whichever way I wish you all the best xx

Girlinthecountry · 04/02/2009 12:58

well, unbelievably have just got a positive test result (well 2 actually as I felt the need to double check) - eek, I am pregnant. i'm in complete shock at the moment, can't quite believe it even though I did feel pregnant. this baby has certainly defied the odds so far. DH is going to be gobsmacked as I didn't bother sharing my thoughts about being pregnant with him, thinking it was so unlikely. dunno what else to say really - just can't quite think at the moment, hasn't really sunk in. so glad I had a sounding board for past couple of days whilst I was stressing, thx all.

PlumBumMum · 04/02/2009 13:04

Do you think you should wait and maybe tell your dh you don't feel quite right
" if you didn't know better you would think you were pregnant " type of thing then do a tes with him
Or will he be okay hearing your pg out of the blue

Congratulations by the way

PlumBumMum · 04/02/2009 13:06

DH home in an hour. will wait until boys in bed before telling him (bang on time at 7pm tonight then). I have to say, although a big shock, and not at all planned (quite the opposite), i'm finding it impossible to stop the beginnings of a big grin spreading accross my face.. its fantastic to have all these positive comments and congratulations. will post tomorrow and let you know if DH has survived the shock - have already got some beers chilling for him!!!

Sooo...Im dying to know what your DH said......

morningpaper · 05/02/2009 09:15

I think it's unlikely - more likely that your body is adjusting to the different hormonal environment
