Hi
After 15 months of ttc I am becoming increasingly all the more doubtful that I will become pregnant and all the literature out there makes me think that I don,t stand a cats in hell chance at my age.
Can I please be bombarded with loads of 35 y plus ladies who have manged to concieve even if it did take ages and who can help me relax a bit about this.
I am becoming very depressed about it all.

Had first DD at 41 after trying for 3 months.
Had 2nd DD at 43 after trying the same time. All but one the 8 women in my NCT antenatal group were over 35. Some had taken some time to get pregnant (one who was even older than me found out she was pregnant the day she was due to see a fertility specialist.
Another friend took years to get pregnant (at 41) and then fell pregnant by (happy) accident with no 2 a year later.
I so hope things work out for you. It must be very stressful, but it can and does happen.
Have you been to see your GP yet?

I'm 39 - was 38 when I started TTC and conceived in 3 cycles - yes, there is hope

I took no chances and peed on a stick to find when ovulation was due - not an infallible system but worked fairly quickly for me (after 3 months) and I was 41.

I conceived my second at 39, after about six months of not using contraception. Have a look around and you'll find absolutely masses of us getting pregnant at much, much older than you!

I did the stick-peeing as well.

I had ds1 when I was 42 after far too much trying. Then I had ds2 16m later when I was 43 - got pg with him the 2nd month we tried!

I finally managed to get pregnant when I gave up trying. I'd been getting all stressed about it so much every month for so long. When I finally got over all the stress and upset of thinking I'd never get pregnant - out they popped.

lostittoday - thanks for starting this thread. I am 39 in April and have been trying for over a year. It severely depresses me and I think I need to start preparing myself for the fact that it is not going to happen for me - at least not naturally and not ever, because I can't afford to do it through IVF.

I fear a lifetime of being an auntie and 'having the freedom' to travel is ahead of me

I had a 12yr gap and had a little surprise when I was nearly 41. Yes there is hope

I'm almost 38 and 13 weeks pregnant. It took us 3 months of trying.

15 months of TTC is a long time, though. In your place I would go to a fertility specialist & get blood tests done. Maybe there is a problem that can easily be fixed?

I was in my 30s, but used Persona to predict the good times. Took 6 months the first time and 3 the second - but that was all due to DH being away at the wrong time. I would definitely have worried had I not known about the timings.

Good luck.

Yep it can happen, I got pg at 35 with dc1 after months, pg at 36 with dc2 after 4 months, and pg at 40 after 8 months of trying. It can happen, 15 months is hard going but it can happen at any time. Sorry to hear you are getting depressed about it. I hope that hearing from loads of older ladies here will help.

Had DD after 18 months of trying at 37. BUt it seemd there were reasons it took s long and when I had a Op to sort it out took 1 month. DD is now 16 months. After 2 months of trying am pg with No 2 and was nearly 39 when conceived.
Again, nearly all NCT group over 36, friends having babies at 43 and 45 and lots at 38/39.
And I know a few people who had IVF in their 20s..
Here in SW London you're very much the 'young Mum' if you're under 35.

Had my two at 36 and 38 respectively and got pregnant at first attempt in both cases. It really helps if you know when you are ovulating (which usually annoys the hell out of me, but was quite handy on these occasions). I agree with Cotedazure - I would see someone asap as if there is a problem it may be something really easy to fix.

I had DS when I was 43 - ttc for about 10mins.

But I don't think any of this does help - it's YOU and your body that matters, and after 15 months, I certainly wouldn't give up hope but would seek some help and advice.

Good luck!

Just had my second baby, a lovely little boy and I am 44, it did take 5 years though, but so worth the wait!

Have you thought about helping things along a little maybe acupuncture or reflexology?

Good luck!

It took us 18 months to conceive our first child, at the age of 20 and 22. The year I was 42 I got pg 3 times without trying at all (2 missed m/c) and DD2 was born 2 months before my 44th birthday. (DH almost 46 when she was born)

I conceived very easily indeed at 37.5.

One of my cousins has two children born when she was 43 and 45.

My grandmother's youngest child was conceived when she was 44 and my grandfather 60 .
