All my friends who were actively trying for a baby i.e. shagging like mad conceived boys whilst all my friends who took a more relaxed approach had girls. Is this just in my imagination?

What are your experiences?

I have had people I know do all kinds of things 2 concieve a cetain sex child & I have to say, the majority have failed (with the exception of 1!), which to me says it is a 50/50 chance at the end of the day, whatever you do!

ja9 · 25/02/2005 21:28

hey, how come i got a boy then???

only kidding

blueteddy · 25/02/2005 21:29

If that is the case hmo2, I should have all girls!!!

Xena · 25/02/2005 21:32

2 boys!

ChocolateGirl · 26/02/2005 20:05

dejags, I thought I would have a third boy too!

In fact, when dd was born they told us she was a boy! Five minutes later she was a girl and I was very confused! And disbelieving! And for a minute almost disappointed. But only for a minute!

She is lovely.

Am I really the only person you know to have a girl after two boys? Think we should have a special thread dedicated to mums in this situation then... My friend found some statistics somewhere when I was pg and apparently you are much more likely to have two boys and a girl than you are to have three of the same sex.

But most people we know have two kids and are stopping there...

MummytoSteven · 26/02/2005 20:08

well my unplanned pg was steven, and my two friends with unplanned pgs were 1 boy and 1 girl..... tho we did go through a erm shagging like mad phsae in the run up to conceiving him (my body must have been trying to tell me something!)

Lonelymum · 26/02/2005 20:09

I only "shagged like mad" to conceive my first child who was indeed a boy. The other three, I took a more relaxed attitude or only had sex the once before conceiving and they were 2 boys and a girl, so I am not sure your theory works.

Whizzz · 26/02/2005 20:13

I read somewhere that once you have a boy - you are statistically more likely to have another boy. Whereas if you have a girl first - your next one could be either ?! Does that follow your theory Choc?

Tessiebear · 27/02/2005 11:12

IMHO - some couples will only ever have one sex. I also beleive that it is NOT a 50/50 chance - some men have more of a certain sperm than others. I know one women who has just had her 5th boy, and our gardener has 5 girls!!!
BTW - i have 2 DS's ... tried for a girl using every trick in the book and just found out it is.... another DS!

blueteddy · 27/02/2005 11:32

I have heard that if you have 2 same sex children that you have a 75% chance of conceiving that sex again.
Don't know how true it is, but most of the people I know who had 2 same sex children & went on to have a 3rd, do have either 3 boys or 3 girls.

munnzieb · 27/02/2005 18:08

well to throw a spaner in the works, two of my friends have just had boys, both were unplanned, one has a boy and girl already the other has two boys and a girl.

I want boys, DH want's girls, so I think one of us will be a touch disapointed.

i have three boys. ds1 took few months to conceive, got bit frantic, ds2 came as we were referred for ivf, so very frantic, and ds3 came as we decided to 'try', and i conceived first month when very relaxed!

Tati · 07/03/2005 21:48

I have 3 boys too, am desperate for a girl - any advice?

tigi · 07/03/2005 21:55

i've given up now, quite happy with what i've got! They are all very different personalities, very cuddly, and sweet boys, couldn't imagine adding another child (boy or girl)to them to upset the balance (or my sanity)

Tati · 07/03/2005 21:59

Most of the time, so happy with my boys, just get sad when I think of the experiences that I don't get to pass on to a daughter & if I'm honest the shopping for a girl looks fab!

bambi06 · 07/03/2005 22:05

i`ve written on the other thread about this in that i have one of each and used persona plus on day of ovulation had sex and a boy where as on day three before ovulation same thing and hey presto a girl so give it a try and good luck!!!

blueteddy · 07/03/2005 22:05

I have heard of a lot of people failing when trying these natural sex selection methods.
One girl I know started trying for a girl for her 2nd pregnancy, she bought the book & everything.
She now has 4 boys!
I think you have to make sure that you really want another child more than just 1 sex or the other, as it could lead to dissapointment.
