Ttc after an hsg test

Hi, just as the title says really, had my hsg test this week, have read lots about increased chances of conceiving in the months after and the consultant said that it can "open everything up". Would obviously be lovely to have success but at the same time not getting my hopes up too much.

Anyone else in a similar position or have any experiences of ttc after hsg?

Hi all, popping in to ask a question! Did you have your HSGs on the nhs, if so was it after fertility referral and how long did you wait? For my first fertility clinic appt coming up and wondering if it’ll be suggested as an investigation

March2023CH · 07/07/2025 19:11

@Muddysocks1 I got mine on the NHS. My gynaecologist referred me.. he told me to ring them on the first day of my next period and the booked me in on cycle day 10

March2023CH · 08/07/2025 13:53

@Sunf10wer Just booked my appointment for next week to start my IVF journey 😞

Sunf10wer · 09/07/2025 22:49

@CharLdn That's good to hear, thank you for sharing, although I am sorry how it ended for you. I hope you get good news soon (if you haven't already)

@March2023CH sorry for my late reply. Aww i am so sorry about your bfn, it's just so sad isn't it. Is the wait long for your appointment?

@Muddysocks1 mine was nhs. It was done a bit differently because my recurrent loss test results appointment were the same time, but my first appointment i had an ultrasound to check everything internally, swabs taken and then she took lots of info and had reviewed all of my recurrent loss blood tests. Becaise everything looked fine she said she would send me for hsg and dh for SA so yes pretty much it all got arranged at that app but as I said, I already had blood tests just before that, which they used as my fertility ones. So they may refer you at that app or they may do it at the next one. You could always ask though?
Either way, it's great to have your appointment and the ball rolling! 👍

@Sunf10wer my appt is Thursday 24th July.. I'm so nervous about starting IVF

CharLdn · 10/07/2025 12:55

@Muddysocks1 mine was also nhs after my referral to the fertility specialist.

I got my hycosy done - and an IVF referral and was told to keep trying in the meantime as it can improve chances.

Then we got pregnant naturally while waiting for IVF - after the hycosy. But miscarriaged at 5.5 weeks.

So now we’re trying naturally to see if we can avoid IVF.

Everyone’s journeys are so different but it’s all a bloody rollercoaster!

March2023CH · 10/07/2025 21:20

I wish I didn't have to do IVF but with my age I have to :(

Sunf10wer · 15/07/2025 23:16

@CharLdn I'm sorry you are in this position too I hope things work out for you naturally. As you said it's 100% a rolercoaster.

@March2023CH How are you doing? Not long now until your appointment.
I have done a non tracking cycle and so far it's been better, definitely less stressful.

@Sunf10wer yes it's next week. I wish I could do a non tracking cycle but my head won't allow it I've become obsessed. Im going to be using ovulation tests and doing my best but I cant intercourse 2 days before this appt which of course is right in the middle of my fertile window... Typical! I've this appt next week to get tests done and a video call a week after to discuss

Anotheranonymousname · 16/07/2025 22:37

I had an HSG after recurrent losses including a ruptured ectopic. DC conceived a couple of months later is now 16 years old.

Sunf10wer · 17/07/2025 06:48

@March2023CH it's tough missing an attempt, but hopefully be worth it getting tests done. Do you know what tests they are doing?

@Anotheranonymousname Thank you for sharing, so nice to hear experiences of things working out

@March2023CH I'm the same, I was definitely obsessed with testing, it feels like one small thing you can control when everything else is so out of our control, but I found it really stressful around ovulation time and especially the 2 weeks after so i'm hoping it will make the tww a little easier

@Sunf10wer I might ring them and ask can I have intercourse cd 13,14, 15, 17 ,18 and 19.. my appt is cd 17 it should be ok then other days but 15 might be a bit close but I'll ask anyway as it'll annoy me if I don't try and I ovulate any day from 13 to 20 so it's hard to know. They told me they will be doing sperm analysis for him and for me they will amh blood tests and AFC scan on me. I've had amh done privately a few months ago and it was good.. I also have had hsg, scans and blood tests with no red flags

March2023CH · 17/07/2025 20:03

@Sunf10wer what cd are you in now? I think you are a few days ahead of me

Sunf10wer · 17/07/2025 21:59

Why is it the ask you to abstain the other days @March2023CH ? Is it because of the scan?

Yes I am cd 15 of a non tracking cycle. That's good to get all of the tests, hopefully the ball will get rolling quickly for you after all of this is done.

OP posts:
March2023CH · 18/07/2025 10:57

No its because of the sperm analysis. It says in the letter no ejaculation at least 2 days before but no more than 7

March2023CH · 18/07/2025 18:43

@Sunf10wer I'm so nervous about starting IVF I'm goggling IVF at 40 years old and it's not good odds even with good amh and no red flags most eggs will be abnormal at this age .. I'm paying for this which is even worse

Sunf10wer · 18/07/2025 20:58

Ahh ok, how anoying to potentially miss a fertile cycle... maybe ovulation will work out in your favour and you will still be able to ttc.

I have read lots of good things about ivf, including over 40's. Sorry you have to pay, that's tough
