PMSL at Diege's 5 minutes Great news on the results BTW

Right OK shall start when we left for A&E, apologies for loooooong story....

Got to A&E, waited about an hour-ish, doctor came took blood, urine sample (for PT), and felt my belly, evenutally sent me and the bloods up to the gynae ward. Waited for what seemed like forever, finally got to see the doc, he took a full history (this alone took about half an hour because he was writing everything down with a pen and paper!! ) then he did an internal, took a load of swobs (which only after did he tell me they were to check for STI's - nice) felt my belly again. Then back to the waiting room for god knows how long, by this point DH had gone to pick DS1 up from school.

Eventually, ever such a patronising, condesending, fucking arsehole of doctor came and got me so she could scan me. We were walking down the corrider towards the scanning room, she asked when my last period was, told her 5th of April, she got her little wheel thingy out, and said "Oh, so you're about 5 weeks, not 7 then?" I said "when I worked it out I would be 7 weeks this coming Friday" she said "Nope, you are only 5 weeks, which means you are going to need an internal scan, tut"

We get to the room, she closes the door, and says, "under these sorts of circumstances we're not really looking for anything I don't think" Then goes on to tell me how easy it is for women to get their dates mixed up, and how many times people have to come back for later scans because there is nothing there. She said "since you are around 5 weeks (] I don't think so) some women do experience a little implantation bleeding that is perfectly normal, and nothing to turn up at A&E for" I was biting my tongue by this point.

So she does the scan, clicking about on the keyboard, doesn't say a thing to me at all, then about 5 minutes later turned the screen around, and said, "yep normal baby in there, though it is a little larger than I'd expect, I'd say you were 7 and a half weeks, but since we don't tend to the real measuring until the dating scan at 12 weeks, it is only a guess." In that split second she went from one of the most miserable unsympathetic cowbags I had ever met, to the most wonderful person in the world.

I had to wait around for a bit because when they'd taken the blood they left the ermmmmm.... thingy in so if they needed more it was already open, anyway I had to have it taken out before I could go obviously, and the nurse that came to take it out said "the doctor just wanted me to make you aware of a few things...." basically she did see a pool of blood, and I am to expect it to come out at some point, although it may just reabsorb into my body. No sex for 7 days after any slightest bit of bleeding Gave me a letter to take to the GP, and sent me on my very merry way!

nobodyputsBBinthecorner · 21/05/2008 20:08

oh nj so relieved for you thats a lovely tale, the nurse seemed a bit of a lsut tho (slut is my ultra offensive word, you have to say it like you spat the word out)

Awww you guys

Fuck it LOL

calsworld · 21/05/2008 20:16

NJ - fab news and glad they did a proper scan for you (you got your early scan after all!).

I really don't know why some people go into the medical (caring?) profession, I know they see people a lot that maybe they can't do anything for medically - but health is soooo much more than that. And would it really hurt for them to keep their snideness to themselves?

Thoughtful of them to tell you that you may bleed again - save panicking, its normally the sort of thing that you'd go back for only to be told "oh, did we forget to tell you that might happen?"!

at no GOF'ing - how will you survive NJ!?

I still can't get over her lack of empathy for you, you must have wanted to bash her over the head!!

kayzisexpecting · 21/05/2008 20:21

The nurse who I saw at the EPU was similar to that but the woman who did the scan was lovely.

I can't wait for my scan next week. I'm so excited!!

NatalieJane · 21/05/2008 20:24

Cal, I dread to think what DH would have said to her if he hadn't have been picking DS1 up. I am very good at keeping my mouth shut, especially at bad times like that because I know if I open it, I'll just cry, but she was really getting on my nerves till she said it was all OK, then I could have kissed the sour faced ol' bat

nobodyputsBBinthecorner · 21/05/2008 20:26

lol good attitude nat, i wld of been the same, wld of cried regardless! so glad your ok tho, you and your baby!!! you have a baby!! in your tummy!! and s/he is a right fighter!

Got my name back

Oh and the flowers, I chucked them in the bin this morning thinking it was all over anyway why bother looking at dead flowers?!

kayzisexpecting · 21/05/2008 20:31

When I was sat in the EPU waiting room there were a few other people there. 2 couples and a mum and daughter. One of the couples and the mum and daughter were all laughing and happy and I wanted to kill them. But when I got out of the scan and knew everything was ok I wanted to kiss all of them.

The other couple really annoyed me too as the woman kept saying to her dp/dh "I don't think they realise I am pregnant or they would scan me right this minute"

I just wanted to shout "We were here first shut up!!!!" as she got there an hour and a half after I did.

nobodyputsBBinthecorner · 21/05/2008 20:35

im not sure ive even got an EPU here, i assume there wld be one with my local maternity hopital tho? im fortunate i live 10 mins from our local maternity hospital

OP posts:
kayzisexpecting · 21/05/2008 20:37

I live an hour away from the hospital. They closed the maternity ward at the hospital that is about 10 minutes away.

They are on about closing the maternity ward at Scarborough so nearest hospital would be an hour and a half to 2 hours drive.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 21/05/2008 20:37

Know that feeling Kay!

BB, when you say maternity hospital, is it literally a maternity ward, or is it a hospital with a maternity ward IYKWIM?

When you book in with your midwife they will give you all the details of what is where.

kayzisexpecting · 21/05/2008 20:39

Unless your MW knows nothing as mine told me there was no EPU in Yorkshire.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 21/05/2008 20:39

TBH BB, the way our EPU acted today, I'd go straight to gynae again, we might have had to wait for god knows how long, but at least it wasn't waiting till next Tuesday, am still cross about that, I think it is disgusting that they expect people to wait that long.

kayzisexpecting · 21/05/2008 20:41

The first time I rang the EPU they said "but you get a scan at 12 weeks" Oh yeah cos I was going to wait that long wasn't I.
