Does anyone have experience of this? Hubby has just had it done and we are nervously awaiting the outcome!

he'll be desperate to get out of there asap as he hates hospitals, needles etc...

my sister in law has decided to sell her moses basket, baby bath etc and they're all like brand new. Am gutted because we can't tell her to keep them as this is a secret between me and DH. Feel like pretending I've got a friend who needs them and buying them off her and hiding in attic but decided I don't want any baby things until we know the op is successful !!

terrier141 · 23/06/2008 13:46

know what you mean - I look at baby stuff all the time but would'nt dare to buy any cos dh would go mental, and also cos I think it would make the disappointment even worse if it doesnt work!

pinkmook · 24/06/2008 18:45

Hi terrier - girls, no not had scan yet as I have to ring the hospital on day one of my cycle - ovulation seems to have gone awol again this cycle (had no temp shift yet and am CD22) Am pissed off with it all

how are you guys getting along?

welshlinz · 24/06/2008 19:56

hi pink, sorry to hear things aren't going great at the mo for you

Just lookin forward to the consultation monday night now x Looked after my 1 year old nephew today and boy, had I forgotten how hard it was to manoeuvre a buggy around lol

welshlinz · 24/06/2008 21:15

just came across this on ebay to test male fertility. maybe an option on checking DH sperm count after op ?

cgi.ebay.co.uk/PRIVATE-2-MALE-FERTILITY-ACTIVE-SPERM-TEST-TESTS

not sure if that link will work. if not go on ebay and type in male fertility tests. They are £ 13.99 from a shop called fertilityplan.

KatieDD · 24/06/2008 21:49

Oh dear I must be setting myself up for a fall then, I've just bought loads of stuff in the GAP sale I can't stop myself, keep justifying it on the basis of buying a few bits here and there will soften the impact of the next one financially.
My DH still hasn't booked in and I am getting a bit pissed off with him.
Glad everyone else is moving though, positive mental attitude from now onwards

terrier141 · 25/06/2008 07:46

Katiedd - get on your dh's case - dont let him have a minutes peace til he's booked in!! lol! And keep buying if it makes you feel positive! Welshlinz - I looked at those tests before and thought about getting them - but dont they only tell you if its higher or lower than 20million or sumthing, rather than specifics? - Not sure really - there are others on there aswell that are a bit more expensive - but measure motility and something else as well (i'll have to have another look!) Im sure PM can advise us a bit more on this issue as she's had some experience?? What do you reckon PM?
Kelly Kate - is it this Friday you have your consultation??

I really would just go to your GP (your DH that is) and ask for a sperm analysis. He (our GP) never queried it at all when my DH went, just filled the form in - and the second time I asked the practice nurse when I had gone for a blood test if I could have the form/bag/pot for DH as I explained we were TTC and needed a second analysis - she didn't bat an eyelid, just gave it and it didn't cost a penny!

Those tests you can buy on the internet aren't great after a vasectomy reversal as they are more meant for people that just want to see if male factor is an issue - the likelyhood is after a VR that it will be, you need to know count, morhpology, motility as a basic thing. My Dh is now going to have to get a more detailed analysis than this looking at sperm antibodies and other stuff.

HTH

xx

welshlinz · 25/06/2008 09:36

mentioned it to DH last night and he informed me that our surgery will do the tests free of charge. Otherwise we live about 5 mins away from the path lab and apparently you can take it straight there so that will probably be the best bet rather than messing around with home tests.

Roll on Monday, I'm getting impatient !!!!!

pinkmook · 25/06/2008 10:49

OOOhh Excited for you and the consultation - nearly there now!! xxxxx

terrier141 · 25/06/2008 11:16

Seems like things are starting to move forward (albeit far too slowly!) for all of us!! Cant believe how obsessed am with it all though - was never like this when ttc my other 2! Guess its cos I know its gonna be harder this time (if it works at all!), was really naive before the VR - just thought (despite all the information available!) that it would just be a case of having it done and then hey presto wait 9 months for your little bundle of joy! Tbh - it wasnt until I started on MN that I realised thats being really unrealistic - especially as it usually takes couples with no complications quite a while!! We could be here for a while girls! xx

OP posts:
pinkmook · 25/06/2008 12:42

Terrier - I thought exactly the same - despite reading before the Vasectomy that its considered permanent and that reversals are not always massively successful I thought I would be fine! Pah, nearly 12 months later here I am still! Getting really fed up of shagging though now!

terrier141 · 25/06/2008 13:56

Im fed up of shagging already - only on 3rd cycle!! Lol! x

KellyKateneedsaholiday · 25/06/2008 14:58

hi, our appointment was supposed to be on Friday but it go cancelled yesterday as consultant has had to take a week off for sme sort of family emergency so we have to phone up and make another appointment. Dh going to phone tomorrow but as were off on holiday in a weeks time i guess the appointment wont be for another 3 or 4 weeks at least. I need to stop researching the op on the internet as i a m finding very few success stories and lots of failures. Im ging to think positive and hope that we are all ging to be lucky with lots of lovely babies.

terrier141 · 25/06/2008 16:08

Aww thats disappointing for you kellykate. I know what you mean about the researching thing though - dont seem to hear of too much success - this thread is gonna change all that though xx

OP posts:
KatieDD · 25/06/2008 16:44

Fed up of shagging oh dear, I can't see that ever happening here but maybe I'm kidding myself , that's the bit i'm really looking forward to, I have fantastic organsm's when pregnant

terrier141 · 25/06/2008 16:51

never been that keen really - but now it seems that we HAVE to do it on specific days - otherwise we'll never have our baby! I am trying to be enthusiastic - honest! Getting more and more obsessed by the day now - have even started thinking of names - somebody stop me!!

OP posts:
pinkmook · 25/06/2008 18:07

I am randy as an old goat when pregnant ....but its the getting pregnant bit thats proving to be hard! Shagging day after day and getting BFN's month after month is kinda disheartening! DH has broken his ribs today in a cycling accident so dont think there'll be much shagging for a bit any way! Not sure if I am annoyed coz can't TTC or releived TBH

KatieDD · 25/06/2008 18:49

Oh no, how inconsiderate of him Pink !

I have my names sorted and DH's has agreed surprisingly

welshlinz · 25/06/2008 19:12

AAaggghhh!! One of my other friends has just rang me to tell me she is 3 months gone !

Really pleased for her but couldn't help feeling a little pang of jealousy when she told me the news ( that makes me sound really spiteful, doesn't it ??)

pinkmook · 25/06/2008 19:15

No welshlinz you don't sound spiteful at all. It 's really hard especially once you have had the reversal done and start TTC in earnest....then all the BFP's start popping up....for other people.....tis horrible but oddly I seem to have got used to it now.

You do get hardened to it a bit - chin up it'll be us next!

pinkmook · 25/06/2008 19:16

KatieDD - I know! Inconsiderate shit! we cant TTC next cycle either because of my scan! harummmphh!

welshlinz · 25/06/2008 19:34

so girls, I need your advice. Is it worth investing in an ovulation tester for after the op or go random bonking and see what happens ?

pinkmook · 25/06/2008 21:19

Linz - when you say ovulaion tester do you mean like a persona/clearblue monitor type thingy or buying Ovulation sticks every month??

I have a persona machine and dont bother with it now. Some people swear by them but I find ovulation sticks cheaper and easier along with monitoring CM/temp on Fertility Friend.
