Does anyone have experience of this? Hubby has just had it done and we are nervously awaiting the outcome!

terrier, thats frustrating about the business thing. Can't u just make a name up ? Surely they dont check do they ? Mind u, not sure if that would be legal lol

Pink, yes my friend has just left and she has made me feel slightly broody as her bump is starting to show and she's really happy. She had her coil out in Feb and caught in March so she's been really lucky!!

KatieDD · 20/06/2008 16:22

Ah i was told i's have three children by a fortune teller so i'm hoping he's wrong

I didn't want to discourage people but I have been there and done the ebay business thing and once you start factoring in the genuine postal losses, the people who say they haven't had parcels but have, the damaged stuff and the changing their mind within 7 days and not getting back the final value fee, it actually cost me money to sell the stuff.

Sit back and wait, the next big thing will happen soon, I'm thinking of drilling oil in the back garden.

I'm expecting that the baby won't happen as a way of coping and because my cousin lost one at 30 weeks, I don't assume i'll have it until it's in my arms now, coping mechanism I guess

welshlinz · 20/06/2008 17:05

Yeah, you have to be careful with ebay that you cover your costs etc.. I have been working on there for about 2 years and doing business properly for over 12 months so I've figured out various systems of making sure all my costs are covered. Like for example, if an item is returned I take a 10% handling and re-stocking charge which covers my ebay fees and I dont refund any p&p.

Also, with regards missing items, I send all my parcels out recorded delivery which the customer pays for so I no when my parcels have arrived and if Royal Mail loose something I send a claim in for a full refund off them ( which thankfully I've only ever had to do once. )

I know what you're saying though, Katie. You've got to really think about things before putting your money into stock etc and be sure you can make it work. For example my sis-in-law saw how well I was doing and decided to buy a pallet of clothing to give it a go herself. She ended up making a small profit but not really enough for all the time and effort she put into it.

Hows things going with the appointment making KatieDD ??

pinkmook · 20/06/2008 17:24

Welshlinz - sounds like you are a very pragmatic and organised person - I am very impressed! Think thats where I would fall down....dont tend to think things through that well

I just cant see how to make profit for me personally - like I said , I looked at the prices on the website you suggested and others but stuff doesn't seem to sell for more than a few pence more than you can buy it for How do you do it Welshlinz !!!???

KatieDD - fortune tellers ...meh! I'll probably only have the one and you'll have ten!

KatieDD · 20/06/2008 17:34

Pink if i have 10 i promise i'll give at least 4 to you !

The other thing is the credit crunch I know we're tightening our belts so i'm sure lots of other people must be just buying the essentials too.
I'm not sure i'd start any business right now except debt collection maybe

welshlinz · 20/06/2008 17:48

I have to agree with you on that Katie, the credit crunch is going to hit every retailer badly.

Pink, i just don't budge on price really. Sellers are silly on there and like you said, I don't no how they make any profit on their items. I stick to a buy it now price and then I no I'll get what I need for my profit margin. Because they sell them so cheaply, their stock sells quickly so I hold back and then list mine at a realistic price.

Not saying it's easy by any means. Some days I may not sell anything but so far I'm doing much better than I thought.

Anyway, enough of the boring work stuff. It's Friday !! and apparently the happiest day of the year but for some reason I'm really tetchy today lol Going to look at a Springer Spaniel puppy tonight as a play mate for our other dog, Scooby ( must be mad !! )

pinkmook · 20/06/2008 17:51

Awwww Thanks KatieDD...can I have two girls and two boys please

Yep I think you are right the credit crunch does kind of put the stoppers on new businesses unless you are something that people need when things are tight...hmmmmm puts thinking hat on..takes it off again and has a lie down, far too stressfull!!

terrier141 · 21/06/2008 08:51

aww welshlinz can you get me a puppy aswell please?? We always had springers when I lived at home - they are fab dogs (very mental though!!) What type of dog is Scooby? I have finally given up pestering dh for another dog (that was my most recent "must have it now" cos I cant have a baby!), dh wouldnt budge, wouldnt even allow me to dog foster until our little old man (14 year old Border Terrier) passes away.

Im still very cautious on the ebay thing aswell - if I could come up with something a bit less common I think I'd go for it - still thinking!

Anyway got my 1st RED day on Persona today - quite excited until I read that you can have up to 22 red days in the first month!

Not happy with dh at the mo either - I have been up all night with a sickness and diahorrea bug and he seemed really irritated with me. Alright I am a bit of a wimp - but he was totally unsympathetic - so I slept in dd's room (shes at her dads) to get out of his way and he didnt even pop in to see if I was alright before leaving for work this morning!
Definately gonna have words later!

welshlinz · 21/06/2008 09:20

terrier, poor you. That bug is really nasty so I believe.

Scooby is also a Springer Spaniel so we're a sucker for trouble adding to the clan with another one probably lol. He gets a bit lonely in the day though which is why we decided to get him a play mate. Even though I'm around, I can't give him the attention he needs cos as you no they are high energy dogs.

We picked her last night and DD has named her Holly. She's coming to us in 2 weeks and is soooo cute. Hopefully I'll be so busy with her, that it will make the time go faster for DH's operation ( although this wasn't the reason we decided to get another dog. We planned this long before the reversal )

Going to sound really niave now, but what is persona ? and whats a red day mean ?

KellyKateneedsaholiday · 21/06/2008 14:12

oohhh phoned the consultant yesterday and weve got an appointment for FRIDAY!!!. I was expecting to wait for ages for one.
Hope you feel better soon terrier.

welshlinz · 21/06/2008 14:33

thats fantastic news kellykate...keep us posted. Hoping we'll get our appointment sometime next week so fingers crossed.

pinkmook · 21/06/2008 15:33

Hope you are feeling better terrier - I hate being sick too, am also a big wimp

welshlinz A persona is a type of fertility monitor - you can use it to either prevent pregnancy or get pregnant - no prizes for guessing which one terrier's using it for I had one but stopped using it because of my wacky cycles....its no good if you have really long cycles. A red day is a Highly fertile day. get to it terrier

pinkmook · 21/06/2008 15:35

Here's a link that explains persona - god I really have got nothing better to do!

persona

KatieDD · 21/06/2008 16:01

Pink your time is much appreciated on here, once the twins arrive we won't see you for dust

Great news Kellykate, first step forward

pinkmook · 21/06/2008 16:04

awww KatieDD that made my stomach leap - imagine....twins...eeeeekkkk!

KatieDD · 21/06/2008 17:06

I have to say twins terrify me, but if you have them that'll be lovely lol

pinkmook · 21/06/2008 18:17

I am picturing the shining style twin girls ...."come play with us.....forever....!" arrrgggghhhh eeeeekkkkkk

welshlinz · 22/06/2008 11:20

lol pink, twins are a scary thought.
Thanks for the info re persona. Checked out the website last night and sounds brilliant. Might get one further down the line if things need a helping hand.

Feeling loads more positive again now about the op etc.. Certain times of my cycle I seem to get quite depressed and teary so guess it was one of those days !!

Am hoping the letter might arrive tomorrow or Tuesday with some appointment details from the consultant so we can get things moving again. He's off work for a month in July as he's changing jobs so would be a perfect time to get it done as his job is very heavy lifting etc.. so would need more time off if we can't get it done that soon.

Anyway, I'm going on again hope everyones ok x

terrier141 · 22/06/2008 19:49

Its all getting really exciting for everyone now isnt it?! Well Im feeling much better today - and after slagging dh off terribly to you all yesterday, it turned out he,d been ruff too - had to come home from work early yesterday - bless him - I felt awful!!
Welshlinz - you must be mad - sounds sooo lush though! It will definately keep you busy and not so preoccupied with babies for a bit! Hope you are all okay - good luck with the twins PM!

welshlinz · 23/06/2008 10:29

horrayyy!! appointment for next Monday has just been organised with the consultant. Does anybody know roughly how much a consultation will set us back ?? I thought it was free but DH says you have to pay

terrier141 · 23/06/2008 10:36

Great news! Counting down the days now - something for you to look forward to! It cost us £130 for consultation - but I think it can vary, so best to check - good luck! xx

OP posts:
welshlinz · 23/06/2008 10:48

oh really ?...can't believe I thought it was free lol

how are you getting on with your first day off terrier ? it took me ages to get used to it but love it now

terrier141 · 23/06/2008 10:59

Wish it had been free! The total cost for us was just over £2000 which I think is pretty much average for it - now they want us to pay £40 for sperm analysis! We havent bothered with that yet as it was only 2 months ago and apparently it should keep improving gradually over the next 2 years (something like that depending on what you believe!) - so I reckon we'll wait a bit for that.
Tbh - I've only been working 2 days a week since Feb - so not that much of a culture shock really - maybe my house might get a bit more work done around it - who knows!! I find it really busy at home anyway - theres never been enough hours in the day - theres 6 of us (most of the time) - so you can imagine the washing and ironing!
Busy filling in job applications at the moment - did 4 last week and got another 4 here for this week (so far!) - I cant be accused of not trying to get a job! They are all classroom assistant type jobs though which dont start til Sept - so I'll be at home for at least 10 weeks whatever happens! Not holding out much hope though - cos I have no school experience - its been a while since I went! lol!

OP posts:
welshlinz · 23/06/2008 11:07

good luck with the applications terrier. My mum went into classroom assistant teaching 2 years ago and she hadn't done anything like that for years and years so hopefully you'll be snapped up x

We've been given a guide price of around the same, £ 2000 but won't no until the actual consultation. Might be slight complications as DH has always suffered with lumpy veins ( sorry, can't remember the medical term lol )
in that region so may be harder to operate on. He had them when they performed the vasectomy which didn't cause any problems so we'll just have to wait and see.

Did it involve an overnight stay for your hubbys or were they let out same day ?

terrier141 · 23/06/2008 11:51

The price included an overnight stay - but my dh could'nt wait to get out of there - they would'nt let him go until he had eaten, drank and peed - much the same as when we have our babies!! Depends what your dh wants I suppose - wish mine had rested a bit more!
