Strong positive 6dpo

Looking for any help or advice! We were unsuccessful trying to conceive last month, negative tests up until the day my period arrived on time. I believe I ovulated on Wednesday 11th Sept- we did not have any intercourse before this date.
On Tuesday 17th Sept I had light spotting so out of curiosity took a pregnancy test even though I didn’t think I’d see anything and was shocked to see such strong positives! I did multiple tests on 3 different brands and all were the same. I was definitely only 6dpo (or Less!) so what is going on here? I’m so confused why it’s so strong. Anything I’ve found online of peoples positive tests at 6dpo are extremely faint and even then responses say it wouldn’t be this strong so I’m starting to panic something is very wrong. Has anyone been in the same boat?

Strong positive 6dpo

Hello, sorry to all who asked queries that I didn’t get back to! The email notifications from mums net were going straight to my junk and I only just came across this last notification by chance! Just to update everyone… I did miscarry a few weeks after my first post. I didn’t get as far as a doctors appt or scan so I never really know what happened in the end but my gut tells me it was likely an ectopic that resolved itself on its own. We are still TTC as not had any luck since this situation. I was eventually sent for scans to check everything okay as although I’ve struggled to stay pregnant I’ve never struggled to actually conceive so it was strange this completely stopped after this miscarriage. All my tests and scan came back fine so still a mystery and perhaps it’s just my age (38) Hope all works out okay for you @EmmRach xx

Hi @Nosejug, so I did my digital and it said 2-3 weeks!! At 7dpo... soooo yeah. That's not right.

I have contacted my GP and my EPAU both of whom fobbed me off and didn't want to know despite citing concerns about an ectopic.

So it looks like I am on my own. Thank you to you and @Happyapplehoney for your insight on this experience, at least now I'll know what to look out for and seek help asap if I notice anything.

Thanks again and I wish you all the luck in the world with your ongoing TTC journeys xx

aw @EmmRach I'm sorry you’re going through this, the memory of it all is really fresh so I really feel for you. The same part of my mind that hoped for myself in the situation also hopes for you that it’s some bizarre anomaly. It’s really frustrating not being heard by medical folk. I don’t know why —if indeed it turns out to be the case — they would resist recognising early strong positives as ectopic signal, and dealing with something early. Possibly becuase, as in the op’s case, it resolved itself. Mine did too, but I was getting daily then by-daily blood tests for a few weeks to make sure everything was safe. I’d say be somewhat vigilant with your body’s signals. Obvs a scan won’t do much rn (but would show bleeding) but blood tests would give a good indication. With the slightest symptom make them hear you, ectopic is rather serious. If you want to talk further I’m here. (Egg collection tomorrow, hopefully I’ll get at least one, sadly I’m a poor responder so that’s the parameter!) best of luck to you x

Hi @Nosejug, been thinking about you and the egg retrieval. How did it go?

Still the same here... did another digital yesterday and still 2-3 weeks. So I'm playing the waiting / watching game.
Will do another digital on a Thursday when it should increase by another week. If it doesn't then I think it's fairly clear what the outcome will be :( I'm staying very guarded emotionally about the whole thing because I just don't see a good way out of this xx

Nosejug · 28/06/2025 10:11

@EmmRach that’s exactly the mindset I kept too, very guarded, and waited for a week to pass to determine if it was technically increasing. Mine took just over a week to reach the next digital stage, which was an annoyingly unsolid answer, and in fact reached the next stage the day I went for my bloods.

Are you long into your ttc career? (It sure feels like a career to me). Yesterday’s egg collection went very well for us, I have very low amh and in two previous rounds got a total of 4 eggs, I was shocked when the dr told me he’d collected 5! We got a call this morning to say all fertilised and 4 made it through the night, so that’s a positive start. I’m extremely guarded as I know my eggs are getting old, and blastocysts aren’t a guarentee at all, but positively surprised with those numbers. Unfortunately they failed to note I don’t tolerate opioids and once the anti sickness meds wore off, I spent about 8 hours with extreme nausea, dizziness and sickness… owch! Feeling a lot better now. Another two rounds ahead of me before we try implanting in case another miscarriage pushes me over 40 years old.

i feel for you so much in your situation, i hope it helps to know that you’re not alone and that a complete stranger is rooting for you.

Hey @Nosejug we're trying for our second and it's literally our 2nd month of trying. So although any loss is sad, I feel like I'll be able to cope as I haven't been worn down (yet) by the ttc journey. I am quite old though. Will be 38 in Oct... I was worried that was going to extend the journey this time somewhat. So was even more surprised to see that strong positive! Still fine here... cheapie tests keep getting gradually darker each day. So I'm keeping my fingers conservatively crossed.

Oh my gosh! Congratulations on getting 5!! I know it could come to nothing but It's 5 chances isn't it.... way better odds than before?! Everything crossed for you!! Xx

Reporting back, for anyone who may come across this - with some good news!!!

A scan today showed a healthy normal 5 to 6 week pregnancy with a little heartbeat flickering away.

I'm beyond happy. No idea how it's happened! The very earliest I could have ovulated would make me 16DPO.

The nurse and ultrasound tech at the hospital were stumped. But assured me all looks healthy and maybe it's just "one of those things"!

Huge thank you for the advice and for previous posters info. Xx

Could the bleeding last month have been a twin miscarriage? It would make sense why you are getting positive tests now. Digitals are not reliable with the weeks so possible that you are 6-7 weeks.

@Happyapplehoney Hi,
Could you please update on your result? What was the outcome and 6DPO is correct?

She did update earlier this year saying that she unfortunately miscarried shortly after and never got to the bottom of what happened.

Nosejug · 17/11/2025 04:59

@EmmRach so sorry I never saw your update—amazing news. What a relief that must have been. I hope everything’s gone well for you since x

Spoke to the doctor this morning and she said I just need to wait for now to see what happens as too early for testing but need to call back in a few weeks and can be referred to the early pregnancy unit for a blood test and scan so will keep you updated. Doctor agreed with the information I gave her that it is unusual to have such high hcg at this stage and doesn’t think I’m pregnant from last month but just need to wait it out for now.

6DPO strong positive (2-3 weeks hcg in 8DPO) is impossible for any scenario including miscarriage, ectopic etc as per biology. So should be pregnant from last month ovulation/sex (As no sex since last ovulation) and last heavy bleeding should be an implantation bleeding. Seems doctor didnt want to panic the patient telling that even before doing a blood test. But ununfortunately didnt have time for blood testing due to miscarriage..
