How long did it take you to conceive?

I'm only on my second cycle but my big head and maybe even naive self thought I would get pregnant on my first cycle. Everyone around me and my husband have gotten pregnant on the first cycle which makes you think that getting pregnant is easy but I've come to find out that it isn't even if you do everything right. I don't want to offend anyone who has had it way harder than I have when trying to conceive. I guess I'm in a bit of a rush as I took a bit of a career break to have a baby since the next 3 years required my full commitment with no breaks in between for me to become qualified. So I was just wondering how long it took others to conceive?

Ds1 was a surprise. DD about 8 weeks. DS2 about 4 cycles. I didn't count but kind of remember us discussing it.

Pumpy001 · 03/11/2023 13:17

1st cycle but I think a lot of years of prep went into it.

Joppi · 03/11/2023 13:19

2nd cycle (age 33)

Seryse · 03/11/2023 13:20

Dd is 19, I was on the pill, so wasn't trying.

19 years of unexplained secondary infertility, various appointments, tests etc with fertility specialists and nothing ever happened, decided not to try ivf and move on.

End of the pandemic (I work in Fetal medicine) I was having a flappy moment about how busy it was and I couldn't cope... realised period was late). Our son 20 months now and a holy terror.

Went straight on the pill again, was breastfeeding, fell pregnant when ds was 4 months. Wed had sex once since the c section. Sadly, i miscarried a few weeks later.

Still on the pill... fell pregnant not long after the miscarriage, we had sex twice since the miscarriage, baby dd is 23 weeks now and genuinely the smiliest baby i have ever, ever met.

Fertility is such a strange, unpredictable thing. Wishing you loads of luck on your journey! ❤️

veeolay · 03/11/2023 13:20

About a year both times, but irregular cycles so that was probably 6-8 cycles

Justnoidea · 03/11/2023 13:22

Cycle 1 aged 30, cycle 3 aged 33, 3 cycles in at 36 and haven’t conceived yet - 🤞🏻 For cycle 4!

PerspiringElizabeth · 03/11/2023 13:23

Age 24 - surprise
age 27 - 1 cycle
age 31 - 3 cycles

Stephy1024 · 03/11/2023 13:25

Under 5 months for all 3. But I have a regular 28 cycle. I've been pretty lucky.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 03/11/2023 14:07

Cycle 3 age 32
Cycle 3 again at age 36

Flowersandfloral · 03/11/2023 14:08

Took us 18 months to conceive naturally - first baby - I'm 32 and nothing came back unusual on first lot of tests by GP for me or DH. Now due next month!

Haydug · 03/11/2023 14:10

First cycle. I was using ovulation testing though. Who knows if we'd have tried on the right days without that - possibly not! I was 30.

EvelynKatie · 03/11/2023 14:11

OP I've recently been through similar and spent time reading similar threads. I'm on cycle 4 now TTC#1 and probably thought it would happen quicker as most people I know in person got pregnant straight away, apart from 1 friend who took a year. Fingers crossed!

Whataretheodds · 03/11/2023 14:12

You'll get all sorts of answers OP. I conceived very quickly (at 41/42) but had 2 MCs.

I think people massage the truth a bit - some people don't count that month because they weren't tracking, or that month because they weren't really trying, or that month because they were ill.

Also, other people's timelines aren't relevant for YOUR situation.

Do you know when you're most fertile and how you and your partner can optimise lifestyle factors for fertility?

How old are you? How old is your partner? Have either of you conceived before?

DanceMumTaxi · 03/11/2023 14:13

Dc1 was first cycle (age 30)
Dc2 had a chemical pregnancy cycle 1, then conceived again cycle 2 (age 33)

Darcy86 · 03/11/2023 14:16

Cycle 7 aged 33 with my first, and cycle 2 aged 36 with my second (due in 10 days!)

Hummusanddipdip · 03/11/2023 14:16

3 years in all to get ds, several miscarriages which resulted in the referral to start looking into it and I got pregnant.

2 years of trying after deciding we wanted a second. Not even a pregnancy scare in the lead up this time round, we actually gave up and said ds would be an only... baby will be here in less than 3 months.

Mushroo · 03/11/2023 14:19

Cycle 3 (aged 31).

But I came off the pill a year in advance, was taking supplements etc. The cycle I conceived was the first one I used OPKs.

justalittlesnoel · 03/11/2023 14:22

Age 30, three years - no luck! Miscarriages but no DC.

kernowpicklepie · 03/11/2023 14:24

1st DC it took almost a year. When we conceived, I actually thought we'd missed ovulation window.
2nd DC wasn't planned and it happened with 1 try when 1st DC was 9 months

Malarandras · 03/11/2023 14:27

Both times for me I got pregnant first cycle and I’d done nothing to help that in any way, I just lived life and did the necessary deed. I always put it down it incredible luck on my part. I tried again though and did not get pregnant which is just as well as I realised I didn’t want a third baby. I always put that down to good luck too. Hopefully you get pregnant soon OP.

Cookerhood · 03/11/2023 14:30

DC1 8th cycle
Miscarriage 1 1st cycle
DC2 1st cycle
Miscarriage 2 1st cycle
DC3 happy accident

PinkRoses1245 · 03/11/2023 14:30

You’ll get every answer under the sun. It took a few months but I did lose first pregnancy. Sorry but your situation of being under time pressure sounds horrifically stressful. It can take a year for healthy couples, plus consider if you have a loss that sets you back a few months at the very least.

catbla2957 · 03/11/2023 14:37

Six years nearly to the day.

Everyone's different though

Bells3032 · 03/11/2023 14:51

On and off six months with DD (prob three cycles where it was actually possible)

worldwidetravel2017 · 03/11/2023 14:57

Concieved 2nd cycle trying
But then early miscarriage

Im 36 - nearly 37
