Can you ovulate before LH surge? Confusing BBT chart

Hi all,

I know that we ovulate between 12-48 hours after a surge in LH, I've been using the OPKs for a while now. I've started temping properly in the last few months as well, and I always noticed that my temp would increase the day after I get a peak on OPK.

This month however my temperature increased the same day I got the darkest line on OPK (for info, I had a really long gradual increase in LH this month, first time that's happened for me, normally it's low and then all of a sudden BAM one evening it's peaked. I had darkish lines for two days, then finally in the morning my temp increased, I got the peak test, which is odd as I usually get a peak in the evening.)

I was wondering if any of you have ever had this? Is it possible I ovulated before the final surge? Could I have ovulated more than once? I didn't do anything weird on the night I got the first high temp (I've been sleeping in the nip cause it's so warm lately,so it's not like I had extra warm pyjamas on!). I woke up a bit earlier than usual, but normally for me when I wake up earlier my temperature is lower than expected as opposed to higher.

I've attached pic from fertility friend, as well as pics of OPKs and graph of their values. Would love opinions!

@falsepositivenervous Don't want to give you false hope. My temp started going down but I hadn't had my usual spotting, took a test and got a positive. So don't count yourself out yet.

@Un7breakable oh my god could you imagine! I'd be over the moon! I'm at work now, still no sign of period, zero spotting. I'll do a test this evening with an internet cheapie, if it's still not here tomorrow morning I'll use a proper test, I'll buy one on my way home this evening. According to FF my period begins tomorrow, with an adjusted Premom (so ovulation is when my temp went up, not when I got the LH surge), my period was due two days ago.

How many dpo were you when you got the positive test? How fantastic, congrats to you ☺️

@falsepositivenervous Thanks. Somewhere between 10 and 16 dpo as last month my app couldn't decide when I ovulated, in fact at one point I worried I hadn't. It was only the lack of spotting that made me check. 🤞 You'll get a BFP.

So I did one of those cheap strip tests and it's negative, but still no sign of period at all, which is most unusual for me!

I'll do another one tomorrow morning, but I'd have to expect that by 14dpo I would have at least a hint of a line if I actually was pregnant :/

@falsepositivenervous I'm so sorry x

falsepositivenervous · 20/06/2023 08:07

@Un7breakable don't worry, I knew it would be :) what was actually more painful was waking up this morning to see my temp had gone up a good bit, then going to the bathroom to find my period starting 😂

Well, on to CD 1, time to freshen up the uterus and get things nice and ready for next go around ☺️

@falsepositivenervous I always feel more positive after the TWW. 🤞 This will be your month.

hi @falsepositivenervous

Oh, I'm so so sorry to hear of your miscarriage.

I totally relate to the frustration with healthcare providers!
So, they were able to diagnose your endometriosis with an ultrasound?
I had an ultrasound 1 week before my laparoscopy that showed lots of cysts but no endo at all. I had been pretty much begging doctors for help with period pain/irregular cycles since I was 18, and occasionally they would send me for an ultrasound and was always told I was fine. It wasn't until the laparoscopy in April that they discovered 'lots' of endometriosis.

There has been more attention and funding given to endo in recent years and I really hope diagnosis and treatment gets better for those living with it. It's so rough to experience symptoms for over a decade (like we have!) before anyone thoroughly investigates!

That's interesting that seed cycling may have helped your luteal phase - I spot from day 12 too - but I've always dismissed seed cycling. Like surely a healthy diet that includes seeds is sufficient... But I do believe that diet is super important and foods/herbs can really impact your health. Maybe I should give it a go :)

Nice one, how did you pick I was in Australia? Switzerland looks SO beautiful, what a wonderful place to live.

Just to update . My temp also rose the day after, in correlation with the positive ovulation test I had but thats all even more confusing as fertility clinic said the egg had already popped so clearly I was getting a positive ovulation test after the egg was already out there. No wonder I'm not getting pregnant 😆 I'm not sure how I can trust opks anymore
