Bleeding in early pregnancy how many of you have had it?

How many people actually bleed during early pregnancy?
I'm almost 6 weeks and bled for 3 days at 5 weeks, then light pink spotting when I wipe starting last night.
I'm booked in for an early scan on Wednesday and they haven't made much of the bleeding just wanting to check HCG levels in case of ectopic or miscarriage but HCG levels are going up so they said that's promising.

Interested to hear if anyone here has bled during early pregnancy and everything turned out ok?

I bled at 6 weeks. Went on to have a healthy baby born at term.

Aftjbtibg · 13/03/2023 09:59

Yes I bled at 4/5 weeks (actually thought it was my period) then 6-7 weeks and baby was perfectly fine and no more bleeding.

DelurkingAJ · 13/03/2023 09:59

Hope all goes well, OP.

I didn’t realise I was pregnant until I was almost three months because I’d had periods (I thought) at the right times…DS1 and DS2 (although with DS2 I cottoned on a bit quicker so managed to have a scan at 13 weeks…DS1 was 20 weeks at my ‘12 week scan’). Both healthy full term babies.

Suzi888 · 13/03/2023 10:03

I did. Normal “period”, I didn’t know I was pregnant though so not stressed at all. It was only when clothes got tighter that I tested. Had cramping throughout pregnancy off and on- towards the end diagnosed Braxton Hicks.

All absolutely fine with baby.

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/03/2023 10:05

I haven’t but friends have. I believe about 20% of healthy pregnancies experience bleeding at some point.

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 13/03/2023 10:09

I did with both of my pregnancies.

First was light, spotting, but last est a while.

Second was a huge loss of blood at 10 weeks which quite frankly made me think it was game over. I then agreed to take place in the prism trial-to this day I'm not sure if it was the placebo or progesterone

RosieOJK · 13/03/2023 10:09

I have 2 DS from 4 pregnancies, and had bleeding with 3 of them all with different outcomes. Ds1, bled small amount at 6/7 weeks, all ok, next pregnancy small amount of bleeding that got progressively heavier at 12 weeks, turned out to be a missed miscarriage (twins), next pregnancy I had a gush of blood at 5 weeks, pregnancy continued but 20 week scan showed abnormalities that weren’t compatible with life so we chose to terminate. DS2, no bleeding and healthy baby at the end of it!

DrMarciaFieldstone · 13/03/2023 10:10

Yes with DC2. Had to go to EPU a number of times, they don’t really do much, mostly just have to wait and see, but stopped by 12 week scan and all was fine

KEG05 · 13/03/2023 10:11

I have OP. First 2 pregnancies no bleeding and healthy babies. 3rd I had bleeding at it turned out to be a blighted ovum. 4th I also had bleeding but end result was another beautiful healthy baby. Both times the bleeding was very minimal around 6-7 weeks I think.

Twizbe · 13/03/2023 10:13

I did with both mine. Bled on and off for the first trimester.

SpaceJamtart · 13/03/2023 10:20

I did in my second pregnancy, I had two "periods" at the right times so didn't know I was pregnant until I was 14 weeks, I didn't believe the nurse when she told me how far along I was.
They were fully like normal periods- lasted 4 days each, the baby was totally fine.

Igniteyourbones · 13/03/2023 10:23

I had a big bleed at 10 weeks with baby2, was devastated and convinced I was miscarrying. Saw GP and went for scan at the hospital. All was absolutely fine, they couldn’t give a reason for the bleed. She’s a lovely healthy 8 year old now x

Snugglemonkey · 13/03/2023 10:40

I bled having both my children. It was particularly bad in my first pregnancy, I bled every weekend. Sometimes it was so much I could not believe that I could still be pregnant. It was incredibly stressful but started to taper off after 12 weeks and the last one was 16 weeks. I hope things calm down for you!

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 13/03/2023 10:44

I did. I bled at around 4 to 5 weeks. Actually thought it was the start of my period like another poster. Lasted around 5 days was mostly brown but HCG kept rising so Docs told me not to worry.

Then at 20 weeks I had a massive bleed but I had cervical ectophy and it was cervix bleeding not from inside of womb. Apparently around 10% get this but I had never heard of it before.

Went full term and DC now almost 3. I think it's more common than people realise x

stormelf · 13/03/2023 10:47

I had on and off bleeding up to 10 weeks with two of my pregnancies. I had an unexplained bleed at 19 weeks with my oldest. No bleeding at all with middle pregnancy

121gigawatts · 13/03/2023 10:49

Hi op, I did in 2nd pregnancy, baby fine. 6 weeks is early for scan and you may not see much. With my first baby scan at 5 weeks 6 days due to huge cyst causing issues and baby had heartbeat and was fine, second pregnancy had bleed and cyst symptoms again, scan at 6 weeks and they said no heartbeat and scared me saying may not be viable pregnancy and baby was fine. So don't worry if at 6 week scan they don't see heartbeat. The HCG should be a good indicator of how the pregnancy is progressing. Good luck.

Jackieintheboxy · 13/03/2023 10:49

I bled for 16 weeks

Mammma91 · 13/03/2023 10:51

I bled intermittently with DS from 6 weeks until 35 weeks, had him at 36+6 and he was healthy.

Gymmum82 · 13/03/2023 10:52

Yes twice. The first time I bled around 8 weeks. Turned out to be a miscarriage.
Second time I bled around 9 weeks and 16 weeks and had a healthy baby

stopbeeping · 13/03/2023 10:53

Three pregnancies no miscarriages

Pink discharge with all a few times
Bleeding with none

stopbeeping · 13/03/2023 10:53

Had haemotomas with all three

CrystalQueen87 · 13/03/2023 10:54

Thank you so much for the replies so far.
I probably wouldn't have been so worried about bleeding if the doctor hadn't mentioned it could be a sign of ectopic pregnancy, now obviously I'm convinced it's that.
My HCG levels have gone from 39 to 110 to 435 so I am hopeful....
I am aware a scan won't show much at 6 weeks but will it show whether there is a pregnancy in the uterus or fallopian tube either way? I just desperately want to rule out an ectopic.

OP posts:
BigusBumus1 · 13/03/2023 10:55

I had spotting at 6 weeks with all 3 and massive bleeding with the first at 12 weeks, which was nothing in the end. I also bled after sex a lot.

All are now adults. x

BigusBumus1 · 13/03/2023 10:57

Yes an early scan will show a tiny baked bean shaped thing with a fluttery heart beat (I think, or maybe the heart beat comes later). But wither way it will show where the embryo is.

By the way, they use a probe thing to scan you, that they put a condom on and do it up your vagina. I was taken by surprise at that the first time! Just to warn you.

Twizbe · 13/03/2023 11:04

At 6 weeks they should be able to see where the pregnancy is and rule out an ectopic. Sometimes, if the dates are off (which is very very common in early pregnancy) they won't be able to find the pregnancy and rule it out. They will just scan you again in a week.

It might also show a subchoronic haematoma (no idea how to spell that) which is a pool of blood in the uterus. This was the cause of my bleeding both times. Harmless for me and baby but as it resolves itself you might bleed more.
