If you've had an unexpected pregnancy while using condoms, did you know that there had been a problem with the condom? Is it possible to get pregnant without anything going wrong (like split or condom coming off or some penetrative foreplay)?

I know condoms come out as pretty unreliable contraceptives, but I've always assumed that if there's no sign of a problem then there's no way sperm can have got through.

My periods are a bit variable (24-30 days) but I'm now 6 days later than normal and 2 days later than I've ever been. I've just had a negative from a pretty out-of-date pregnancy test left over from when I was TTC a few years ago. I'm mid-30s so a bit young to expect periods to start going a bit more variable. I'm wondering if I should be buying a new test or if it's pretty impossible to get pregnant if there hasn't been a problem with the condom.

Has anyone got pregnant while using condoms with no sign of a problem with the condom?

there are many reasons why ovulation can happen later very occasionally which in turn will mean your period is late too it may not be that the condom had an issue. I think if there’s no obvious sign of the condom falling off or splitting or anything then it’s unlikely sleep could get through unless there was a tiny hole in the condom

Sperm not sleep

I got pregnant whilst using a condom, I think I was told at the time that they are 98% effective if used perfectly. So most of the errors will come from them being used wrong. As far as I could tell nothing was wrong with ours, it was in date and we didn't do anything stupid with it like put it back on inside out- it just didn't work.

I did. I'm not sure what went wrong! Possibly pre-cum, but I'm pretty sure we used them correctly. Sadly ended in miscarriage but still baffles me!

Thanks everyone. I'm sorry about your miscarriage @sammielouise. I guess I'll wait a couple more days then test again. I don't feel pregnant (I got pretty strong early symptoms with each DC) but do feel like I might be coming down with something so maybe that's made me late.

Looks like I was just late - period started this morning, just in time for going on holiday today 🙄
