Mid thirties TTC #1 - how long did it take you?

Just curious for those who had your first baby in your mid-thirties, how long did it take you trying to conceive? Recently turned 34 and have been trying for around 6 months - starting to feel a bit skittish!

With my first I was 27 when I conceived , had a miscarriage in the September at around 6-7 weeks I think cause I didn’t even track it. Then fell pregnant the following month , healthy happy baby. Now 5 years later , I’m 33 (34 in January) and conceived after sex twice within three days but I didn’t know my ovulation date until after and was slap bang in the middle. Bare in mind you have a very small window , hours, for the sperm etc and an egg being released on time. Several of my friends took 6-12 months and they are a couple years older.

i haven’t used contraception for over 5 years , very briefly after first child was born but made my hormones go crazy so stopped and just been careful since. How long have you been of contraception? Sometimes depending the contraception you used like the fill or depo it can take months for it to leave your body and your body start doing its thing .

have you seen a doctor etc about concerns, couldn’t hurt to see what they say

3 cycles for first baby (age 35).
13 cycles for second pregnancy, currently 11 weeks (age 38). Was definitely stressed out over this one, convinced it was never going to happen. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry. You're still well within the limits of 'normal' trying time and you have plenty of time left. Best of luck x

@Emotionalmessy thanks for sharing. I don't really have any concerns, I'm healthy overall and my cycle is very regular. I've also been off the pill for over 18 months now, using Natural Cycles as contraception and now to TTC. I know it's just a matter of waiting but sometimes it's hard to relax and be patient!

@Lucy304 thank you, that's reassuring! I suppose with the first there's always the niggling doubt that something might wrong, as we don't know if we can conceive at all.

I was 31 when i conceived. Regular, healthy cycle. Still took 11 cycles

Two cycles at 37, due to strict monitoring of EWCM and luck.

34 when conceived. Took 10 cycles and 2 miscarriages. Hopefully you'll get your BFP soon x

Started when I was just 37 and it took almost two years, with one chemical and one early miscarriage at 5.5 weeks in between.
Now 29 weeks pregnant so worth the wait.
Fingers crossed you don't have to wait that long ☺️

I started at 35 and had a chemical and an early MC, pregnant again - 18 weeks (and 36yo). Took me 1-2 cycles to get pregnant each time but stickiness has been an issue. Coming along okay this time. Best of luck x

First time all four times, started at 35 and lost two to miscarriage. I have a family history going back to my great grandmother of conceiving extremely quickly though

I started TTC number one at age 33, took 13 months. Just about to TTC number 2 a few years later so hope it is quicker this time. Such a lottery though, try not to worry.

I started trying at 35 and became pregnant on my first attempt! Then tried for my second at 37. Took many more months and a very early miscarriage before I had a successful pregnancy.

It took 4 months with DS1 at aged 31. Now TTC baby 2 at age 35 and only on cycle 1 so will let you know. Feel it may take longer this time as older and heavier 🙈

At 40 - three months.
At 42 - one evening .
My tip would be acupuncture! I was having it for another reason, but each time I said to the practitioner that I was trying to conceive and then boosh! I got pregnant .

@LaVitesse2022 I am in the same boat as you! I am 34 TTC 1st baby currently in TWW in 7th cycle of trying! I feel like I am loosing hope like it will never happen! Had two friends announce pregnancies, am very happy for them but keep thinking that could have been me and I could have shared the experience with them! Also ppl keep asking if we want kids...!

I'm mid 30's and have had 3 years of infertility/ IVF etc - hope you don't have to go down this route - but you're a way off.

6-12 months is very normal, so try not to worry yet.

All I would say is do you/ your partner have any underlying health conditions? If so it might be worth getting checked out sooner, but if not I would say just keep trying.

If it still hasn't happened after a year then they will do tests for you on the NHS.

@Rose785 I definitely get that sort of envy sometimes when I hear other people's announcements. But I know plenty of couples who only got pregnant after a year of trying so I try to be rational about it and patient. It's just that before you start trying you're under the impression that it'll happen straight away, if you miss a pill or condom does not work you're immediately pregnant, you think it's very easy when in reality it takes ages for all things that need to work, work 😅

No underlying conditions so it's really just about being patient. Easier said that done, of course...

I fell pregnant on our first month of trying at the age of 34. I feel incredibly lucky, especially seeing as we both had covid the month before. I've been quite fit and healthy so wondering if that helped?

I was 34 when we started TTC DD1. We conceived our first cycle. DD is now 6 months old.

@LaVitesse2022 are you on your 7th try now? I am in my TWW so should know by Monday if this cycle worked, however I feel no different to when my period is due, bloated, nausea, boobs really hurt and swollen. Me and my partner decided to get the ball rolling with tests as I am impatient, and want the help sooner rather than later if needed.
