Is it safe to be playing contact sport if trying to conceive?

I play a contact sport and soon will be trying to conceive.

I am still on birth control but will soon be coming off and starting trying.

Unsure if I should stop while trying to conceive.. as obviously there will be a few weeks where I wouldn't know I was pregnant!

Yep perfectly.

Ps. I am aware of no contact sports when pregnant lol

I mean the 'what ifs' between ovulation and testing.

I hate to let my team down but I don't want any negative impacts on my chances to conceive or damage any little beans in the making.

Any coach I've had has always been a strict no, it's not safe on that one, for obvious reasons. I hope your TTC goes well! 💐

Dougalls · 06/06/2022 22:10

So do you think I would have to give it all up when TTC?

You're fine.

In those 2 weeks any implanted embryo is microscopic. Unless your contact sport involves jousting you're fine to continue.

It took me years to get pregnant, my advice? Don't live like you're pregnant until you are.

So true!

Only starting my journey x

You have to decide what risks you are or aren't okay with and take it from there.

Don't live like you're pregnant until you are misses out the finding out you're pregnant part.
As you say, there will be a time when you're pregnant and you don't know. In that time, it's still not safe to play contact sports... Not knowing about being pregnant doesn't mean things are miraculously safe 😅

Another thread on this for any interested.

I can find plenty of info on the benefits of exercise while TTC... and plenty of info on avoiding contact sports while pregnant..
But maintaing safe exercise habits while pregnant and it's benefits.

Seems to be a real grey area between ovulation and the BFP!

I completely agree to the 'don't live like you're pregnant until you are', which I learnt the hard way! It took me years to get pregnant and I am now further down the line with a 1 year old and it feels like FOREVER since I let my hair down because of how cautious I was TTC.
I think so long as you're tracking your cycle closely and testing each month then you would catch a pregnant early enough for contact sport to be no issue

This is beautiful!

The more I look into it the more I realise I love it!

And I have so many friends that I play sport with and to give it all up would break my heart!

I wish they taught it to us from a younger age that conception is not as straight forward as it seemed in the textbooks!
