Ive had 3 miscarriages now and been told ive got factor 5 leiden heterozygous blood clotting mutation. Ive not had a lot of help so far except been told to start taking aspirin and heparin injections from 6 weeks pregnancy however i cannot even make it to 6 weeks! Ive done my own research and seen a lot of people who've had multiple mc have taken low dose aspirin from 1dpo or BFP. Just wanted to hear from anyone who did this and was successful and what dosage 75 or 150? Or any other advise?

My lovely wife took low dose aspirin after multiple, soul-destroying miscarriages and went on to give birth to our daughter a few months short of her 45th birthday. I'd call that a resounding success! If I remember correctly, it was the 75mg aspirin.

Thank you for your reply! So pleased to hear of your success!

I had 3 miscarriages between 39 and 40. Started taking low dose aspirin every day and ubiquinol. Not sure if that's what made the difference but my next pregnancy was DD2 who is now nearly 4 and sitting on the sofa telling me there's an ant on her dressing gown Grin

bunnykins123 · 03/04/2022 14:24

@Flowerlover010 I've had 3x consecutive early miscarriages following the birth of DD. I'm in the middle of waiting for blood clotting tests to come back but took 75mg in last pregnancy which didn't work (another mc) and 150mg last cycle but was bfn. I take mine at 3dpo as if I waited till bfp or 6 weeks, it would be too late. I am back trying 75mg again this cycle so let's see! I'm surprised they haven't had you taking aspirin/heparin from bfp though, did they give you a reason why? I think new NHS guidelines is 150mg for reoccurring miscarriages.

Flowerlover010 · 03/04/2022 15:31

Honestly ive had no support whatsoever. I got told after 2 mc to take aspirin at 6 weeks, thats all. So had my 3rd mc and researched myself. I am going to start taking aspirin asap when i next get pregnant but from my own back not advise from docs.

I had two miscarriages. I took 75g aspirin from bfp and am now snuggled with my 9day old.
I have no idea if it was the aspirin or luck. But the aspirin made me feel like I was being proactive which probably helped my attitude.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 03/04/2022 15:44

I took 150 from when I found out I was pregnant. They (!) are six months old now. I’d do it again.

CupidStunt24 · 03/04/2022 15:45

So sorry for your losses. I have a protein C deficiency which is a clotting disorder. When I was diagnosed a few years ago, I was told by the consultant that it wouldn’t affect day to life and I didn’t need to be on medication, but would need to take Fragmin injections upon falling pregnant (I found out well before I’d ever tried for a baby so was quite grateful to already know, it’s hereditary so was tested after finding our my dad had it). The only issue is, no one wants to prescribe it to me until at least 8wks. The GP says it’s not their remit, the midwife needs to do it, and the midwife won’t do it until the screening at the 8 week booking appointment. With my first pregnancy, all was ok, started the injections at 8 weeks. With my last pregnancy, I had a miscarriage at the end of Feb, and had the MVA surgery. When I spoke to the ladies at the EPU, and told them about the headache trying to get Fragmin, they were really cross and said that I shouldn’t be waiting until then to start, and if I fall pregnant again to call them & they will give it to me from 6wks (as this is when they can do a scan to check the pregnancy is in the right place). I then asked a consultant what her thoughts were on aspirin in the interim, and she said in my personal situation she would suggest taking a low dose (75mg) every day, so that I’m already on it should I fall pregnant again. She did say it’s not a blanket fix and she wouldn’t advise that for everyone that asked her, but she was very honest about it. So I have started. But for all the advice to, there’s advice against. For example, som easy aspirin helps with implantation, and others say it hinders it - I suppose it completely depends on your own personal situation.

Sorry, I know I’ve rambled on, I have just driven myself round the twist with this the last few weeks and it’s horrible, especially with the lack of support and information x

I self medicated with 75mg of aspirin after a MMC. There are clotting disorders in my family and I had been on a blood thinner for travel reasons with my first successful pregnancy so it felt too coincidental that my second pregnancy ended that way and I decided it couldn’t hurt to do the baby aspirin. So I took it from the positive test. That pregnancy went to term and I haven’t needed to try again- but if I did I would take the aspirin.

Weevil84 · 03/04/2022 15:55

I have Factor V Leiden too. I was told to take 75mg ttc then 150mg (once I conceived after approval from my consultant.)
Also if you're going to take it make sure it's in the evening, once you've eaten. I was told it absorbs better that way, rather than taking it early in the morning.

Roselilly36 · 03/04/2022 16:17

Yes, this worked for a friend of mine, multiple miscarriages, then went on to have three healthy babies.

Flowerlover010 · 04/04/2022 10:15

Thank you so much everyone for your replies they are so helpful!

@Flowerlover010 do you plan to take while ttc?

I've read through this with interest as I was advised to take progesterone and asprin if I get a bfp due to a mmc.

Flowerlover010 · 14/04/2022 19:01

@Ellie5341 i think after reading various comments on posts from people i am just going to start with 75mg after conception and then go onto 150mg if or when i get BFP otherwise it feels like id just be on asprin all the time? I dont really know to be honest, as i say im not getting any help or advice off any doctors and just going off other people's experience and advice. I want to see if i can try progesterone too but no idea how or who id get that off?
Ive tried contacting private doctors and they dont even come back to me. Ive requested a private referral with my GP and its been 6 weeks and i still havent heard anything. Its just the worst ever. After 3 miscarriages you'd think you'd start getting the help but no!

I have abnormally high iron levels and I saw a Prof of hematology after a late term loss. She said 75mg aspirin from BPF. She said I probably didn't need it, but it isn't like it could do any harm, so i might as well. I have a gorgeous 16 month old. I will do the same again if I lucky enough to get pregnant.

Bumbers · 14/04/2022 19:43

I also took progesterone- I was taking it anyway after IVF, but due to late term loss, I kept taking it longer than normally recommended - I think on a similar "you might as well" basis.

bookofthewitch · 14/04/2022 19:46

After multiple miscarriages I just took aspirin from the second I saw the bfp and gave birth to a healthy baby!
I was put on 150mg later on in pregnancy and didn't bother to say I'd already been taking it 😂

Bun14 · 28/06/2022 20:48

Hi there.

I'm currently experiencing another loss and am looking for anything to help. Those who took a low dose of aspirin.... did you take 75mg every day?

Thank you to anyone who responds.

Flowerlover010 · 02/07/2022 17:55

An update for me ive now been advised to take 75mg aspirin from positive preganancy test and heparin injections too. This is a private doctor advice now for me.

@Flowerlover010 I know this is an old thread but just wondered how you got on?? I had a late MMC this summer and have been told to take 150mg aspirin from bfp and possibly heparin (need another blood test to confirm). This was my first pregnancy so hoping for better luck soon, this thread brings me a lot of hope though 😊

toomanyleggings · 03/11/2023 16:01

Yes I had at least 5 early miscarriages and so started 75mg. Then had dd1 fine. Fell pregnant again and didn’t take it. Lost the baby at 11 weeks. Got pregnant again and took it. That was dd2. Not sure if it was a coincidence but certainly never did any harm

toomanyleggings · 03/11/2023 16:02

Oops didn’t realise this was old and

Flowerlover010 · 03/11/2023 16:15

@Charlotte390 sorry for your loss. Well i fell pregnant again this year and started straight away on 75mg aspirin and heparin as well as progesterone as soon as i found out. So far i am 20 weeks pregnant and the furthest ive ever got. I will never know if it was any of these drugs that made the difference or not because my last MC got tested and came back as chromosomally abnormal so would never have worked with these drugs anyway. They told me its likely the other 2 MC were also the same but again I'll never know why they didn't work out.

I took baby aspirin from the moment I got a positive test. That was advised by my gp after 2 mc in a row. Worked for me, she's 2 now! I wasn't diagnosed with any sort of disorder though, but the important point is that it may help, it won't harm. The dose recommended is 150mg I think, but ask your gp, they'll have no problem with it I'd imagine.
