Period 7 days late but negative first response test

Hi my periods are normally regular and about 26 to 28 days. My period is about 7 days late and feeling tired and noticed quite sudden watery discharge, assumed was period but no wasn't.

I did a first response early detection today and it's negative, does this mean I'm definitely not pregnant ?

Has anyone else tested negative on an early detection test 7 days late and turned out to be pregnant ?

Hi @Starlight31 - it's very handy to know when you ovulated. If you don't know, as in, you don't track it - it's possible you're not late but just ovulated later than usual.
If you ovulated and didn't get your AF after 21 days, then something def. is going on that needs to be investigated.
Long story short, no, you're not out until AF showed up :)

Starlight31 · 07/02/2022 13:57

I think I normally ovulate about day 12 according to my tracker but don't actually do ovulation tests. My period started on 4th Jan

@Bundaberg84 if it was positive though wouldn't it be showing up now ? These early response ones can detect 6 days early apparently ? I've read about some women saying they didn't test positive for a while though sometimes Confused

Have you recently had a Covid jab? Mine did that, 5 days late which never happens, pregnancy test was negative.

Starlight31 · 07/02/2022 14:11

@isurvived3under2 no I had all the covid jabs several months ago so it won't be that. Have heard about that happening though

@Starlight31 no, I meant that you could potentially ovulated a lot later this month than usual. Just happens sometimes. New vitamins, stress, illness, medications... so let's say you ovulated 10 days later than in previous months, you wouldn't be overdue by now. And tests usually start showing around 12 days past ovulation (sometimes earlier, but after 12dpo the chances of false negative are low).

Yes, some tests can detect pregnancies as early as 6 days before AF. But if you don't know when you ovulated, you don't now when your AF is due (later ovulation means later cycle, as the second phase, luteal phase, is +/- always the same lenght)

I'm in a similar position so browsing threads to find out other's experiences... my cycle has been clockwork for years, every 26-28 days max, never this late, as am now - 6 days late and no sign of AF - I thought I had pregnancy symptoms - exhaustion, nausea, cramps, metal taste in mouth, very thirsty, but tested 4 days ago and was negative and again this morning, negative :(... symptoms also not as bad now, feel bit more normal, just no period and no positive test... had Covid booster jab in mid-December so wondering if that is impacting it - and completely fearing it may be start of early menopause as I'm 40 :( really hope not...

Hi
I track my periods well and I use 3 different apps witch help with dates of ovulation and period tracker.

I’m 7 days late showing no signs of my period just done a FR test and came back negative I did take it mid day does this effect the result?

Also how long will be people wait before testing again and how long you would leave it before seeing a Dr?

Hi! I'm on the day AF is due but hasn't shown yet (I hope it doesn't).

I tried to track my ovulation, but I think I somehow missed my peak. However, we have been... Er... Overenthusiastic with hubby lately so there's a good chance that I missed it when it happened, but the sperm didn't.

When I was about 5DPO (according to the app, since I have no idea when my actual ovulation took place) I had mild cramping. On the next day nausea and dizziness started.

I'm really not trying to make up symptoms and symptom spotting has never been harder not to do, since there was no way I could ignore that. I'm still so nauseous at times that I get dizzy and I have increased CM, sorry TMI. I tested today, though, and it was a BFN.

I thought that getting a BFN would make any unreal emotions disappear but all the symptoms are still there and that's driving me crazy! Please tell me I might test tomorrow or the day after and get at least a faint BFP!

maria156 · 21/02/2022 16:34

@Cookie3425 hey, after my previous post, AF came eventually came on day 9 late! Been tracking with Clue app for years & that was first time ever so late, usually clockwork 26/27 day cycles!! Sod’s law, I took 3 tests - on 2 days late; 5 days late; and 8 days late and all BFN, so rang doc and booked appointment - that night AF arrived, disappointing not positive, but relieved still ovulating!! They do say taking test first thing in morning is best for result, try not to drink too much water before so urine not diluted etc… Fingers crossed you get result after soon. Keep us posted!

Cookie3425 · 22/02/2022 23:54

@maria156 thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

I’m sorry your AF arrived wishing you baby dust for future tries.

On day 8 now still not sign of anything did another test this morning just incase still negative, so decided to wait a week more before testing again to see if AF comes or if I’m pregnant.

Thanks for the advice

MiaTTC2 · 23/02/2022 08:53

@maria156 I'm only two days late, nauseous and dizzy still, but I tested this morning and it was negative. I thought I should give up and just wait for AF to arrive, but now I'm reading your post and I'm wondering if it's possible. This didn't happen with my first, though. I got a positive at 3 days late.

Bundaberg84 · 23/02/2022 16:42

@Cookie3425 the problem with tracking periods with an app is that you don't know if and when you ovulated that cycle. Only if you use opk or do bbt you will know for sure if you're actually late or not.
I usually track my ovulation and eventually stopped because I'm regular. But then, of course, last cycle I ovulated late and didn't know, so I ended up being 4 days late and was convinced to be pregnant. Unfortunately I wasn't.
Did you test again in the meantime? There's not much you can do unfortunately but wait and test every couple of days. Good luck to you! I hope this is your cycle!

Cookie3425 · 23/02/2022 17:42

@Bundaberg84 thanks for your comment. I’m new to this so not sure on all the termanology haha such af and opk haha.

I do the Premom app which I also do test strips with and add them on to it if that’s what you mean ?

Thanks again.

Bundaberg84 · 24/02/2022 08:17

@Cookie3425 AF would be Aunt Flo, so your period :) opk are the strips you're using, that's great! When did you get the peak?

Cookie3425 · 24/02/2022 21:45

@Bundaberg84 hey I got the peak on 31/01/22
Now 9 days late and tested again and still negative I’m normally very regular and have never been late before any advice would help? Should I wait till 14 late for af ? And if still negative then make a doctors appointment?

Bundaberg84 · 25/02/2022 15:08

9 days is a lot... maybe you are experiencing an anovulatory cycle, and even though your body was gearing up for ovulation it didn't happen? I would wait maybe a week more and then ring up the GP to ask for advice xx

Sunshine1123 · 11/09/2022 20:53

Did you ever get your period?

AD1986 · 06/03/2024 22:44

@Starlight31 and @maria156 how did your cycles go? I'm in the same boat and hoping its not menopause as we're ttc xx

Starlight31 · 07/03/2024 00:07

@AD1986 it was just a random long cycle! I’d been quite stressed I guess so maybe it was that . It was fine afterwards and back to normal cycle lengths . Deffo not menopause!

AD1986 · 07/03/2024 06:18

Amazing..hope its the same for me. Thank you for responding.
I'm 38 however, can I ask if youre around the same age xx

AD1986 · 07/03/2024 08:50

@Starlight31 sorry I didn't mention you in my post above! Hopefully you'll see it xx

Starlight31 · 07/03/2024 09:10

@AD1986 I’m 40 so would have been 38 then. Since that post in the last year when ttc I’ve got pregnant 3 times, all v easily but all miscarried alas but all tests by recurrent miscarriage clinic normal and told just to carry on trying. Anyway I’m not menopausal, get pregnant v easily and still have regular 26 day cycles. Hope that vaguely gives you some reassurance!

AD1986 · 07/03/2024 09:28

@Starlight31 awww I'm sorry about the miscarriages, I know too well how that can feel. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Thank you for responding, its calmed my frantic mind slightly. Hopefully I'm just having a weird cycle too. I did have acpunture few days before I was due and have been fairly stressed!

TheUniqueMember · 06/08/2024 14:37
