Pull out method

I know this is not a "method" to prevent pregnancy per say but I'm just wondering how many of you fell pregnant this way? My partner and I are currently using the withdrawal method as we're not actively trying but will be in the not too distant future. Just wondering how many of you guys out there fell pregnant this way? Is it a common occurrence or pretty rare still?

I have used this successfully for years. On one occasion I didn’t bother and got pregnant.

thingymaboob · 29/12/2021 18:52

Not a method and spoils sex

girlmom21 · 29/12/2021 18:53
@miltonj did you track ovulation and avoid PO on those days or did you just use it throughout your whole cycle?
God how can sex be enjoyable when you're worried about tracking when you can and can't have sex and worrying about not getting too carried away etc?

Just use a condom.

Pomtastic · 29/12/2021 19:45

We have literally just today found we're unexpectedly pregnant from the pull out method, so I would not recommend.

DTD for 2 mins before condom was used for remainder of the time, at what seemed like a non fertile time, probably 5 days before an early ovulation in hindsight. This is with fertility issues too! (took years to conceive first DC)

geojellyfish · 29/12/2021 19:46

Me and DH used for about five years successfully and conceived both DCs on first and then second month when 'trying'. I am no longer willing to risk it though as I do not want a third.

WakeUpLockie · 29/12/2021 19:47

Worked for us for 3 years between getting married and conceiving. No accidents. Conceived first try, so it’s not like we we’re having accidents and just not conceiving.

3luckystars · 29/12/2021 19:49

You are ttc now. Congratulations!

WakeUpLockie · 29/12/2021 19:49

I mean definitely don’t do it if you’re new to a relationship, don’t want kids etc. But that’s not your situation, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/12/2021 19:51

We used to do this and I never got pregnant. However I then struggled for years to have a baby and only managed one so I'd be very wary of using this 'method' and not realising you may have fertility issues if no baby.

wonderlustt · 29/12/2021 19:52

Used it for 2 years, no issues. Aware it's not the most safe however I think that depends on how skilled your partner is... Also important to have the conversation 'what if', just so you're both on the same page if an accident happens.
Personally it is preferable to pumping my body with lots of hormones 👍🏻

Per Se, not "per say".

It doesn't work. Our first was conceived this way.
HippeePrincess · 29/12/2021 20:00

I used this method for 2.5 years, only became pregnant when actually trying first cycle twice.

silverstrawberry · 29/12/2021 20:00

My manipulative ex husband used to swear by this method and made me pregnant twice

viques · 29/12/2021 20:03

@itsmellslikepopcarn

I know I’ll get an eye roll and a tut, and I don’t encourage people to do it but this has been my method for the last 10 years. One pregnancy on the very first time we didn’t pull out. It’s worked for me so far.
Everyone has different levels of fertility though, could be you and your partners levels are low for other reasons, not because of using an unreliable method of not getting pregnant.
Frogsonglue · 29/12/2021 20:04

Hmm yes this is what we do, and I've only ever been pregnant the two times I wanted to be (straight away too, so not like we've low fertility). We do avoid peak times so to speak.

Ninananna · 29/12/2021 20:05

Never used this method, but doesn't it spoil it for both of you?

CoedenNadolig · 29/12/2021 20:09

I have two beautiful nieces because of this method 😂 I did tell much younger BIL at the time, "yeah it's not really gonna prevent anything"

He text me about 9 weeks after that "chat" ....you were right. 😂

Goodbyemylover · 29/12/2021 20:10

Used it for nearly 20 years without getting pregnant. Got pregnant nearly 20 years later using this method, age 41.

Babyg1995 · 29/12/2021 20:12

That is how we conceived dc2 Grin

ViceLikeBlip · 29/12/2021 20:15

I did a lot of research on this. It turns out that some men have some number of viable sperm in their pre-cum, and some men don't have any. According to the only study I could find, actually withdrawing only has about a 4% failure rate, so fairly comparable with condoms, and not too far off hormonal contraceptives. The real problem comes when people don't actually pull out in time.

Withdrawal is the only method of contraception I'm currently using (and we only do that on "risky" days), and I've not fallen pregnant in 4.5 years (and I fell pregnant first or second cycle with each of my children)

whosaidtha · 29/12/2021 20:27

If used correctly every time it's pretty effective. Most of the 'accidents' occur when are he men fail to pull out in time. Most evidence suggest there is little to no sperm in precum.
It worked really well for us for two lots of two years in between 1&2 and 2&3. Conceived first month after trying with both.
I was happy with this choice but only because a baby wouldn't have been a disaster just a little earlier than planned.

LazyYogi · 29/12/2021 20:32

It worked for us for ten years. Then we wanted to conceive and did on first try. Now, two years later I'm pregnant again...unplanned this time! Blush

I read once that some men have sperm in their precum and some don't so I think that could be a factor here. I think it was 50/50 but I don't really remember and I've no idea how reliable the study was.

UserError012345 · 29/12/2021 20:34

I did twice!! Though the first after 10 years.
