Fertility vitamins (proceive), how do they make you feel?

Hi, I’m new to all this so let me explain why I’m asking. Before April of this year my periods were not easy but not a big deal. I didn’t really have a build up, I just got sore boobs a day or two before then awful cramping on day one, over within a few days. We then found out I was pregnant which was a massive shock as my husband had been told he’d never be able to have children naturally. Unfortunately we miscarried at 9 weeks, which was devastating. A month after we decided that if it happened once it could happen again so we needed to be in the best health we could. To help his sperm and my eggs (I’m late thirties) we started taking proceive. Apart from bright yellow wee they’ve been good (I have lovely nails now!). What I’m wondering is whether anyone else experiences more symptoms pre period with them or whether I’m just imagining it? The hospital said I’d have funny periods and pms for the first three months after the miscarriage, but then the fourth was a breeze again, back to normal. This month however I feel like I’m going crazy and probably about to share too much 🤦🏻‍♀️. I have insanely sore boobs and my nipples, man alive they are sensitive to the point they are sore. I nearly cried at a video of Angela merkel this morning saying good bye to France and I don’t even like her. I had really bad cramps the other day which is mega early for me and now nothing. When I was telling my husband to stop hugging me last night because of how sore my boobs were he asked whether I thought I was pregnant. I did a test this morning dpo 9 (I know far too early but he got me thinking) and it was negative as expected. I think these symptoms are too early to be pregnancy related. I don’t think I’m pregnant so can only think of one other thing that’s different to before the miscarriage and that’s the vitamins. Please tell me I’m not imagining feeling like this and other people have the same side effects? Thank you for reading all of that!!!! 😄

hi @ChangeHtotheP - Firstly good luck on your journey. Bright yellow wee tends to be a sign you're taking too many vitamins or the balance is off. I had this too and had to change things up. PDO isn't too early - some people do get the symptoms you're experiencing but 9DPO gives you a very low percentage chance of a positive test even if you are pregnant. Tests again at 14DPO. Hope that helps. x

ChangeHtotheP · 05/11/2021 09:46

Thank you @FlyOnTheWall89. On the website it says that people may experience yellow wee, it’s just the body getting rid of the excess that I don’t need at that time. At certain points in the month it’s fine. I’m genuinely amazed at what the body does after researching all of this. Before April I’d never thought I’d be pregnant so never paid attention to it. I want to keep on taking them but not if it makes me feel like this every month. I don’t like looking like I’m cold all of the time. 😂

I tried a diff brand of prenatal vitamin and they gave me diarrhoea!!

ChangeHtotheP · 05/11/2021 10:34

Oh no @Skysblue The things we have to go through to achieve the most natural thing in the world. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I wish we were prepared more for this in school. I was petrified that if I used the same toilet as a boy I’d get pregnant when I was at school. Now I understand how hard it actually is.

@ChangeHtotheP sorry to jump on your thread, but I was also researching Proceive side effects and stumbled upon your thread. I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage and hope you have some good news now.
I have started taking Proceive Max (I am 36 and have been trying for almost a year) from this cycle and have noticed bright yellow pee. Just wanted to check if you had any luck with this or have you completely stopped taking these?

Danani · 16/11/2021 13:48

Hi OP,

I've been taking Proceive since July...so 5th month now, and other than luminous yellow wee (which btw is normal, harmless and result of the majority of the prenatal supplements out there), I've had no other side effects. It hasn't really done me any harm. I haven't gotten pregnant yet either tho, so jury is still out if they're really doing anything or not. I consider finishing my supply and then just switching back to good old Vit D and Folic Acid and saving my £££.

ChangeHtotheP · 16/11/2021 14:07

Hi @Danani and @Tinkerbell098 thanks both for replying!!! Weirdly enough I’m used to the bright yellow wee now. I think I just wanted to understand if other people experienced heightened symptoms in the run up to their period. I never used to know when I was due on but now I’m a hormonal wreck in the two weeks before, I don’t know why it’s changed. We’ve had no luck yet with getting pregnant but we know we’re on an uphill battle with this due to my husbands silly sperm. I’ve just got the fertililly to see if that helps, although little hesitant to try this, looks like a little plunger! 😂 I hope you both have more success than we do, at least it’s fun trying! 😄

Tinkerbell098 · 16/11/2021 14:18

@ChangeHtotheP @Danani glad to know the luminous yellow wee is normal and nothing to worry about. It was just weird at first as I though it's because I haven't had much water to drink. Hope it won't affect my cycles.
I have tried the fertililly this month actually, I found it a little strange and had difficulty leaving it in (you are meant to invert it after inserting, which is the part I struggle with as inverting it seems to just pull it out of place). Let me know if you have any luck with it. It's worth a try and is no harm trying anyway. Good luck!

Danani · 16/11/2021 15:34

To be honest, Proceive is one of the few fertility supplements that keep popping up and I haven't seen anyone complain about it affecting/delaying their cycles. There is another brand, which I forget the name of, and a lot of people seem to have issues with that one. It's possibly Pregnacare or something similar sounding.

As a side note, @ChangeHtotheP - your symptoms do sound a lot more pregnancy-related than the side effects of the supplements. The cramps can be a result of implantation, which in the majority of women happens at 8-9 DPO, so bang on time, and if it is that, you won't see it on a test until 2-4 days from today. I have everything crossed for you this is it!

mamalaw88 · 16/11/2021 16:41

Just jumping on the thread here! TTC #1 & 2 months in but started taking Pregnacare vitamins just over 1 month ago. I have the luminous yellow pee too - totally natural from what I read (still gets me with how quickly it affects your pee after taking one tablet 😅)... but been experiencing similar symptoms for the last 4 days - sore boobs, bloated lower abdomen, mild cramps... also about 8-9DPO.

Nervous to take a test yet as AF is due in about 3-4 days... wondering if I should just wait and see if AF arrives.....?

Danani · 17/11/2021 07:48

@mamalaw88 wait and see, if you can, or if you test....maybe do it day before AF is due for most reliable result!

Tinkerbell098 · 17/11/2021 08:38

@mamalaw88 I used to test early too but I now make myself wait (not easy!) as I've seen too many BFNs and always end up disappointed (and have wasted a lot of money on these early tests). Some use internet cheapies so it's quite cheap to get a bundle of those and test everyday from about 8/9 and once you get a positive from those, you could test with a more reliable one. I agree with @Danani if you can wait, earliest I would do is 12 dpo and for a more accurate result, the day before AF.

mamalaw88 · 17/11/2021 09:10

Ahh thanks @Danani & @Tinkerbell098 - will hold out and be patient 😅🤞🏼...not always the easiest to do haha

Sending lots of luck to you both!!!

Tinkerbell098 · 17/11/2021 10:58

@mamalaw88 yes definitely not easy. I'm 11 dpo and was very close to testing this morning. Good luck to everyone of you. Hope this is our month xx

mamalaw88 · 18/11/2021 11:42

@Tinkerbell098 my curiosity got the better of me and took a ClearBlue early digital test this morning (12DPO) and got a BFP 🙈🙊 - will wait to take another one tomorrow/Saturday when AF was due... but am mildly freaking out😅

Fingers crossed for you this month too!!!! xxx🤞🏼

Tinkerbell098 · 18/11/2021 11:52

@mamalaw88 oh yey! congratulations! that's really good news. I got a BFN today and feeling a little deflated so it's really good to hear something positive!

Tinkerbell098 · 19/11/2021 15:18

@Danani @ChangeHtotheP did Proceive change your cycles in any way? I started taking Proceive max at the start of this cycle and now I'm three days early! I've been very regular in the past, so this is very new to me. This is the only thing I changed this month. So wanted to know if you've had a similar experience.

Danani · 19/11/2021 16:18

@Tinkerbell098 it hasn't affected my cycles in any way for the 5 months I've been taking it. I am taking the basic Proceive, not the Max though, maybe for the Max it is common?

ChangeHtotheP · 19/11/2021 16:38

It didn’t change my cycle @Tinkerbell098, I range from 26 to 30 days normally and I still fluctuate so no differences for me in that sense. I’m still going to continue taking them and see if my symptoms carry on the way they are. Am also going to book a smear in as due one so won’t harm getting checked out.

Used the little plunger that is feetililly for the first time the other night, interesting. 😂

OP posts:
Tinkerbell098 · 19/11/2021 18:58

@ChangeHtotheP @Danani thanks both. Proceive Max has CoQ10 compared to the normal Proceive and this is the only thing I could think of which may have affected my cycles. I’m not sure if to keep going with them or stop them. But it’s clearly done something, not sure if it’s a good thing or not.

Tinkerbell098 · 19/11/2021 18:58

@ChangeHtotheP what did you think about the fertililly? Did you manage to keep it in place after inverting? I always had trouble

ChangeHtotheP · 19/11/2021 19:39

@Tinkerbell098 I can’t say I was that good with it but it stayed there and when I took it out I was surprised by how much it kept in. In that respect it’s good but not sure if it will have any impact. It gave us something to laugh about so in that sense it’s a win. 😂

OP posts:
Tinkerbell098 · 20/11/2021 10:38

@ChangeHtotheP yes it can’t do any harm so might as well try it. I think I need more practice with it as I struggled to keep it in place (my cervix is probably a weird shape haha!). Good luck xx

Krs1986 · 02/10/2022 10:18

I was taking proceive maxi and I had the same red hot nipples and really sore heavy boobs with cramps for 2 week solid out of evry month no baby yet and just in the tww this month after not taking them and no sore boobs no nothing I can only put it down to the vitamins 😊

CRMB95 · 22/07/2024 11:41

Hi, I know this is an old thread but I've just came across it researching procieve max, started taking start of this cycle as we have been trying for over a year for baby #2, period has started 2/3 days early and I'm currently experiencing a really randomly heavy period, did anybody else experience this with taking procieve? and what were your experiences in the end of taking it, did anybody get their BFP's and feel procieve helped to get this?
