Cycle Day 1 - SMEP method?

MummyStevensToBe · 28/10/2021 16:18

Hi Mummies-to-be! Is anyone at a similar stage in their cycle and going to try the SMEP method this time? Would love to share the highs and lows of the journey together!

This is our second cycle, TTC baby #1, but first cycle I’m pretty sure we DTD around the wrong time / missed my ovulation day. Thought SMEP could give us a better chance!

Hehehe yes @Firsttimetrier I’m 10dpo and this is from this evening with maybe a 2hr hold…no symptoms at all really, just a headache this evening but they’re normal for me!

How are you feeling? Is your OH giddy too?

MummyStevensToBe · 19/11/2021 22:54

Omg @mrsS21congratulations!! This is such amazing news! You must be so happy! 💕

@mrsS21 Amazing line for 10dpo. Yey!

Firsttimetrier · 19/11/2021 23:24

@mrsS21 I had a bit of cramping this evening for about 30mins but I’m still symptomless other than that.

DH is in total shock that it happened so quickly, bless him. We’ve gone a bit testing mad and I’ve done a FRER and another easy@home 😂 both bringing back two lines pretty much instantly.

Have you told your partner?

mrsS21 · 19/11/2021 23:34

Thank you @MummyStevensToBe I’m over the moon to see this to be honest!! 🥰
Thanks too @ExPatHereForAChat!

@Firsttimetrier aww amazing! I don’t blame you- it’s a giddy feeling seeing them isn’t it?!

Yeah I trotted down the stairs with it and told him whilst he was washing up! He’s so much more calm than me - big grin when He saw the line…then said maybe test again in a week to see if it gets darker. A week!😆 I’ll be lucky if I hold out til Monday!😆 but it’s a lovely (cautious) feeling tonight xx

Moonshine160 · 20/11/2021 06:50

@mrsS21 wow that’s amazing! Congratulations Grin

Firsttimetrier · 20/11/2021 06:57

@mrsS21 I really admire his self control at wanting to wait a week! 😂

Very giddy and surreal feeling. Hoping you’ve got the stickiest of beans and all goes well ❤️

mrsS21 · 20/11/2021 14:29

Thanks ever so much @Firsttimetrier! He is soooo controlled - I’d be testing every day if it was down to me!

Aww thank you, I hope you do too 🥰 got very giddy looking at due dates etc last night! (Not getting carried away at all!) x

mrsS21 · 20/11/2021 20:16

@Moonshine160 sorry I missed replying! Thank you - how are you getting on?

Moonshine160 · 21/11/2021 11:14

No problem @mrsS21 :)
I have two FRERs arriving from Amazon today. I’ve had loads of symptoms that have suddenly appeared over the last couple of days, loads of cramping but no sign of AF. I’m 14DPO today. The main symptom is a sudden change in sense of smell, everything smells overpowering to the point that I want to gag which was the first symptom I had when I was pregnant with my DS. I could be completely wrong and these might just be some weird PMS symptoms. I did an OPK yesterday because they were the only tests I had, and although there was a second line it was definitely negative. I’ve read loads of posts before about OPKs being positive before a pregnancy test so that’s made me think that maybe I’m not. I might do a FRER later Shock

mrsS21 · 21/11/2021 15:39

@Moonshine160 oh gosh! Do you know when you ovulated? Maybe it’s been late so you’d be getting positive results later than normal?
It’s so hard when you know what your symptoms were the first time. I only knew at 6 weeks, so missed any early signs I had before. But today my nausea has started, so getting a little more excited!

Fingers crossed for you with the frer this evening!

Moonshine160 · 21/11/2021 16:07

I’ve tested and it’s a BFN :( just waiting for cycle 3 to start now. I know it’s still early days but I know that we’re timing it correctly and I got pregnant with my DS on the first cycle so I’m not sure why it’s not happening.

mrsS21 · 21/11/2021 16:35

I’m so sorry, I know it’s so hard & frustrating. It’s taken us 4 cycles to fall on, and each time it didn’t happen I wondered what was going wrong. This month we tried smep as well as the concieve plus, something seems to have worked for us. (We’d used the concieve plus for 2 cycles already).
Sending thoughts to you and hope next cycle is the one for you.

Moonshine160 · 21/11/2021 17:07

Thank you @mrsS21, I feel so disheartened and sad. If I knew it would happen eventually then I’d be ok but it’s the not knowing if/when we’ll have another child that I’m struggling with. We’ve been using pre-seed and we’ve got some left for the next cycle. I’m thinking of maybe trying to relax a bit more this next cycle and not track ovulation and instead aim for every other day after my period has ended, and up until about a week before my next period. I find all the OPKs etc very mentally draining. It seems to be all I think about at the moment. But then I don’t know if that’ll lessen my chances of pregnancy even more.

mrsS21 · 21/11/2021 17:14

It’s such a hard situation, as I know the fear of not knowing if it will happen well. When you’re ready for a child, it’s worrying when it doesn’t happen.
If you find opk stressful, it would maybe be good to try a more relaxed cycle -and just dtd as you say, every other day as long as you can.

My cycles have been back since last September, was starting to get concerned we weren’t falling on, but we actively started trying in July. 4 cycles officially trying.

Hopefully the pre-seed will work too.

Moonshine160 · 21/11/2021 17:24

@mrsS21 thank you for the support. It’s reassuring to know someone else felt the same. Just hope AF doesn’t take too long to arrive now. X

mrsS21 · 21/11/2021 17:54

No problem at all @Moonshine160, it’s hard, but know you’re not alone. It can feel lonely this journey, as sometimes you don’t want to offload these fears to close friends, OH etc. but there’s so many people here going through some similar experiences. But you’re doing all the right things by the sound of it xx

ExPatHereForAChat · 21/11/2021 23:28

@moonshine160 I feel exactly the same. It's the worry about it not happening rather than the fact it's not happening. It's so upsetting to see that stark white negative : (
I'm going to use PreSeed this cycle and hopefully that helps.

MummyStevensToBe · 23/11/2021 07:01

@Moonshine160 and @ExPatHereForAChat so sorry to hear you're feeling so disheartened. I understand it's incredibly tough, but try to remain optimistic. Has AF arrived? If so, do you think you'll try SMEP again?

@mrsS21 how are you feeling? Wishing you the most wonderful pregnancy ❤️ so exciting!

I'm now 8 DPO - still in the waiting game 🤞🤞
