Hi Sambrads - went to GP this morning. Very helpful actually. referring me for ultrasound scn to check for PCOS and a blood test for ovulatory function. He said I'm taking slightly too much Thyroxine but it's fine, only by 25mgs. So, going for my blood test tomorrow at hosp and gonna book scan while I'm there. I'm hoping I don't wait too long for scan!
Also found out I've got borderline cholesterol (I'm only 28 and not overweight ) and low on iron (from last blood test) so quite a productive GP appointment - I'll sort out cholesterol in new year

sambrads · 13/12/2007 14:15

hi ya thats really good news fruit loop hope my appointment will be as hopefull!!!!!

well i have been monitored for the last 7 months for ovulatory function and it always comes back not ovulating and i even do home tests as well !!!

the next step for me is either getting the scan or clomid!!

oh really chuffed for you hopefuly scan wont be to long away!!!

If you're not ovulating shouldnt they put you on clomid or something - Now!
I did ask GP about it but he said it makes your ovaries go into overdrive and you produce so many of the buggers that you are at risk of Ectopic or multiple births (multiple births good though! IMO.

sambrads · 13/12/2007 14:44

yeah i read that the doctor said i would be at higher risk as there is twins in my family a bit scary the etopic pregnany not think??

i am so glad i have someone to talk t about this!!

my sister is due to have a cs on 19 dec and i am so happy for her but i think it will reall hit home on me .

want another baby more than anything!!!

oh and guess what my period is late which is even worse as i no there is no way i could be pregnant at all !!

Well, they say just thinking about TTC can mess up your cycles. Mother natures way of teasing us (cow). Give that baby lots of cuddles, you never know, it could give you good vibes . Maybe if your sis lives near by you could help her out with the baby. Maybe it will help you to relax about ttc by keeping your mind occupied. It'll also make you remember how exhausting it is!

frankie3 · 13/12/2007 18:14

I also developed underactive thyroid after my DS2. Is it really more common after having boys? My Dr has no idea why I have got it.

ladylush · 13/12/2007 19:28

No idea - just thought about it cos all the people I've met with underactive thyroid have had boys.

sambrads · 13/12/2007 20:37

it is so strange that nearly everyone with boys has under active thyroid!!!!

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 13/12/2007 21:05

that is wierd. Well, I was kinda hoping for girl next. All those beautiful monsoon dresses! Still, beggars cant be choosers eh!

TheBlonde · 13/12/2007 21:14

I had it pre kids
Now have one boy and one girl

fruitloop79 · 13/12/2007 21:23

PHEW

here's hoping for a girl then!

KeldaOfTheLancreClan · 14/12/2007 08:24

fruitloop I got it after having a girl then went on to have another girl & a boy so there's definitely hope

'tis SantasWhiskers btw trying on a new name

sambrads · 14/12/2007 08:49

oh fruitloop i would love a wee girl but as long as the baby was healthy i would not mind!!

but as you say there is so much pink out there its hard not to want !!

i found out what i was having with a 4d scan and it was amazing seeing that wee face .

i think that you are just unlucky having an overactive or underactive thyroid both are as bad .

ahhhhhhh poor us !!!!!!!

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 18/12/2007 14:20

yeah, Sambrads poor us!!
I really wouldnt mind if I had another boy but I might have to dress him in pink monsoon for the first few months, he'll never know, ha ha!

I think DP would like another boy then a girl so the girl would have two protective big brothers!
When's your appointment sambrads? have you had it yet?

sambrads · 18/12/2007 16:17

hi ya went to my appointment and guess what she has give me clomid just waiting now for my period to come and then fingers crossed!!
she did say that i had a 40% chance of having twins or even triplets which i am a bit nervous about but beggers cant be chosers !!!!!
how is things with you?

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 18/12/2007 16:48

OMG! 40%, thats a lot wow! that's such a relief isnt it!

My friend who has finally conceived after 5 attempts of IVF is going for her scan next week to find out how many's in there. Two very healthy embryos. Twins very strong her DP's side so in theory, she could have 4 in there! have you thought about that? ha ha!

That's great news, the ball is finally rolling.

I've gotta wait till Fri to get my blood test results then a pelvic ultrasound in (the earliest) Jan. I think I would be terrified to have more than one, only cos I'm a childminder so would be way over my numbers and kind of rely on having all my vacancies filled. Otherwise I'd love multiple babies.

So you cant start taking Clomid right away?

sambrads · 18/12/2007 17:25

no you start it on first day of cycle so now i cant wait it to start!!
do you no what your tsh levels are??

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 19/12/2007 14:25

No, I knew I should've written it down. My Gp told me two figures and I cant remember either - I got a bit confused and I dont normally like to admit my stupidity so didnt ask him to explain . I know he said I'm on slightly higher medication that I should be though.
What a pain you have to wait! at least you're getting somewhere at last

sambrads · 19/12/2007 21:38

well thats true fruitloop i have waited this long whats another feww days or weeks!!

well my doc said i was at the higher end of thyroid reading so she lowered my thyroixine as she didnt want me to go the other way!!!

you are probably reading the same as me !

any idea when you will get your scan i hope you get it soon have they any idea whats wrong?

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 20/12/2007 13:29

well i'm on 150mg thyroxine and the doc said I could reduce by 25mg - scared I'll put weight on though, my metabolism seems about right at the mo.

No idea what's wrong. Going to check for PCOS and the blood test was to check testosterone and fsh levels. I'm supposed to call tomorrow to get blood test results but I'll be on a plane to Spain so a little inconvenient! I wonder if they'll be in now , I might call surgery today.

It must be difficult having to wait to take clomid if you have no idea when the 1st day of your cycle might be. There's so many success stories though. It's like a miracle drug! You better get the grandparents knitting cos you might end up with two or more

welshprincess · 21/12/2007 07:27

hello all
just thought id post here as you all know so much about all things thyroid!
can you help?
been ttc for 8 months with no joy at all. been seeing a reflexologist for 2 months who keeps saying that my thyroid is sluggish and i believe her as the reflexology has helped my cycle andi had some symptoms-- dry patchy skin, hair loss, weight gain. anywho.when she first told me about thyroid i hotfooted it to my gp and had my levels done, which came back as ok. BUT i had been taking pregnacare for 6 months and that is full of thyroid friendly things.
i have stopped taking pregnacare 2 weeks ago(just on folic now) and now skin dry again and v tired.
does anyone know about the barnes temperature method to test thyroid? and do gps accept it as diagnostic tool?
and what are the normal levels of thyroid function.
sorry that was a bit long. good luck and merry christmas to all.
xx wp

fruitloop79 · 21/12/2007 16:52

Hi welshprincess I didnt realise Pregnacare has thyroid stuff in it! How does it know if you're over of under?

Maybe go and get another blood test now you're not taking it and see what happens

I've never heard of the Barnes temperature method. Am going to google it now, see you in a mo..................................................

fruitloop79 · 21/12/2007 16:58

oh right, it's the basal temp thingie isnt it!

It's a bit of a pain to do but if it works then great. My cycle is never ever the same due to underactive thyroid so not sure taking my temp would be any good, especially as I'm not even sure if I ovulate at all

Taking temps is good if you've got a regular cycle that's not months long! (like mine) It keeps you in tune with your bod.

I'm not sure what the normal levels of thyroid should be, sorry I'm not much help at all am I! Just wanted to give you a response

welshprincess · 21/12/2007 17:58

hi fruitloop
pregnacare has loads of iodine (something like 90% rda) in it also some other stuff that zita west reccomends if you have underactive thyroid.
im going to give temping a go, my cycle is pretty regular and i think i ovulate.
thanks for your reply.
have a meryy festive period!

sambrads · 22/12/2007 18:01
