Just reading through all of your messages about the realities of falling pregnant and what we're believed to think from a young age, spending years avoiding unprotected sex to finding that it's actually so much harder and more calculated than you ever realised. It becomes all consuming and something you think about at most hours of the day, and my heart really does go out to those of you who have been trying for a long time. Having felt the way I did after only a few months of trying with my first, I can only begin to imagine how hard it feels ❀️❀️

Dobcaty · 20/10/2021 10:11

What a beautiful sunshine this morning! With a rainbow!

Had a temp dropped this morning, so I think af is on her way, the IUI didn’t work , again!
I’m going to have a talk this evening with DH, as our fund reached the level where we need to decide. Do another few IUI cycles (3) or jump on the IVF route and do 1 cycle? I really hoped beginning of this year I will be a mother before turning 37, and this was the last chance for it.
I know I’m still young (definitely mentally πŸ˜…) and still in the game as af not turned up yet (and secretly thinking the rainbow is a good sing 🀞) but I just would like to ask some opinion, how would you decide?

Shortmamashortcycles · 20/10/2021 10:12

@Cruz86, how are you feeling re: covid, hun? Hope it's not been too bad...

My mental health takes such a beating when TTC. How I'd love to be one of those women who fall easily and have easy pregnancies. Even though there's nothing super wrong here, it's still taken so much time and heartache. When I was pregnant this summer I was so happy that I was done with it, so being back in the TWW feels like such a kick in the teeth.

P.S. I'm feeling super hormonal and grumpy - can you tell? Convinced I'll be joining some of you on the November train.

Firsttimetrier · 20/10/2021 10:19

@Danani I’m either 7 or 8DPO, so holding out until Friday. Ideally I’d like to wait until Sunday but dh is away from early Saturday morning, so can’t do it then!

i123i · 20/10/2021 10:23

Morning all! So, the promised update - I got a BFP on a digital Clearblue test this morning! I don’t know who I was kidding when I said I’d wait until Friday evening to tell my DP πŸ˜‚ I slept for about 4 hours total last night from nerves/excitement. Told him straight after I got the result early this morning while he was still in bed. Both excited but also aware it’s still very early days.

@Lianna93 - thank you! I get the testing urge. I managed to hold out until the day af due which I would really recommend you try to do (I didn’t buy any tests until day af due, which helped resist the urge!!) . On your BBT staying high, I thought you girls would be interested in seeing my BBT chart for the last 2-3 weeks. Like you, my temperature stayed higher than normal (it is usually slightly lower and drops quite a lot on 10-12dpo, right before af). As you can see it stayed high. I use Natural Cycles with just the thermometer. OPK have never really worked for me.

@Squiff70 - what a lovely message; thank you, means a lot!! (Especially when you ladies are the only ones I’ve told so far other than my DP!).

@BH1926 - thank you!! I pray it continues healthily too, and for all of you in this Lucky October πŸ™πŸ»

@laurenGame - yes I am new here, so thanks for the guidance! Good to know! 😊 I guess I just feel old as all my friends are already on their second babies by now!! Literally the only childless one except one other. You’re so right that the most important thing is that we’re healthy and fit!!

Agree on all the comments above saying we all grew up thinking you’d get pregnant so easily. I didn’t really learn about the short fertile window until a few years ago. We should have been taught this at school!

LittleMysSister · 20/10/2021 10:23

Yeah that whole "if you have sex once unprotected you'll get pregnant" thing is annoying. Yes it can happen but it being drilled into you from a young age and then it not being the case when your ready is so frustrating. I constantly worry something is wrong with either my body or my DH even though unlikely to be the case.

Yes AND it's actually quite harmful because if I'd had any realistic idea how long it averagely takes I wouldn't have waited so long to come off my pill. I stayed on it until I was ready to be pregnant straight away and now I really wish I'd come off and used condoms as I feel like I'm still getting so many changes each month from coming off it.

I think I am 2dpo today and already am expecting nothing from this month. Just feel like the only time I feel chilled about it anymore is the during my period and the few days after. Fertile week and then the 2ww is soooo stressful and plays on my mind all the time.

Still...nice not to have to have sex yesterday Grin.

Lianna93 · 20/10/2021 10:24

Morning ladies.

7dpo today & BBT still seems to be rising 🀞🏻!
Fully anticipated a massive spike in BBT as last time I got my vaccine, I took a temperature but just seems to be a sore arm this time!

Reading about the expectations of pregnancy we have drummed into us - it's absolutely mad, I've said the same for years.
It's funny because as a teenager, I was on the pill & I actually fell whilst on it. I've always said I had a miscarriage but I suppose the correct term would be chemical pregnancy - sometimes it's mad to think I could have had a 12 year old already.
I've been with my DH for 11 years and we've never actually used contraception. In those 11 years, I never once fell and now that we're actively trying, I still ain't getting pregnant πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Always said I wanted my first kid at 30 but I said to DH at the start of the year, I don't want to wait that long because the TTC could take even longer - so glad I made the decision to start this year.
But I'm so grateful to be on a forum with others that are in similar situations because our side of here, I literally have no one to talk to about it.
My friends & family are the lucky ones that can fall so quickly and I seem to be the odd one out πŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒ

Sorry to hear AF has arrived for a few of you, hopefully next cycle is the one for you all 🀞🏻

Leibee87 · 20/10/2021 10:30

Same would have got my implant taken out probably a year earlier πŸ˜‚. Oh well. @i123i yay congratulations again. Excited for you.

Lianna93 · 20/10/2021 10:32

@i123i ooh your chart is giving me so much hope πŸ™ˆ Immediately compared mine to yours & it's definitely looking good!
I'm not gonna get my hopes up though.

I've attached mine - ones optimised & the other isn't.

Wishing you the happiest & healthiest pregnancy πŸ’•

I never realised how obsessive it could get wanting to test. The first few months of TTC, I rarely ever tested and now the longer it's gone on, the more I want to test every day and logically, I absolutely know that the likelihood of a BFP this early is very slim, my brains still like 'but what if we squint really hard to see a line' πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@Lianna93 Yessssss.

I used to be on here and see people posting those 'line eyes' photos and think "Why are people posting these clearly blank tests?? It's obvious there is nothing there."

Now I know why πŸ™„ I'm there holding it up to the light, putting it on a white surface, shining my phone torch on it.....

Danani · 20/10/2021 10:34

Ahhh @i123i coming through with the good news!!! Congratulations again! So so pleased for you! Fingers crossed it is all smooth sailing from here on out! 🀞🏻
Thanks so much for sharing your BBT chart too, super helpful! May I ask - do you take your temp at the same time each day? (If so do you setup an alarm?). I am fascinated with how I can not take my temp like a normal person πŸ˜‚ any tips - appreciated!! Also how come OPKs didn’t work for you? Did they not get to peak or did you not find them easy to use?

OP posts:
Lianna93 · 20/10/2021 10:36

@LittleMysSister Hahaha so much truth to that πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ I shine my torch underneath as well - still yet to see a line.

Hopefully we both see one soon & we ain't having to squint for it! πŸ˜‚

Dob29 · 20/10/2021 10:42

Morning all,

Hope you’re all ok?
So after my faint tests I phoned the drs and they said they don’t do blood tests or confirmation now and said I had to refer myself to the midwife! So I called the midwife and they said any type of line is a positive, took my details and said my midwife will call be before I’m 10 weeks….so now I’m going to be wondering for the next 7 weeks if I’m pregnant or not until we have the scan I guess πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ

LittleMysSister · 20/10/2021 10:46

Hopefully :) @Lianna93

It's funny because as a teenager, I was on the pill & I actually fell whilst on it. I've always said I had a miscarriage but I suppose the correct term would be chemical pregnancy - sometimes it's mad to think I could have had a 12 year old already.

It's funny you say this as I've been thinking a lot recently about a time a couple of years ago when my boobs randomly became so sore and hard, and I had no idea why. I ended up buying 2 new sports bras because I'd started running and thought the pain might be because I wasn't wearing the right bra! I was on the pill at the time and would have random periods whenever, so when AF arrived eventually I just assumed it was that all along as my boobs went back to normal. But now I'm wondering if maybe that was a chemical pregnancy? It never even crossed my mind to test, but thinking back I have never had anything like it before or since and it seems to fit with symptoms people describe.

Obviously may just have been AF but just interesting to think back as it would explain the weirdness. No way of finding out though sadly...I'd find it quite reassuring if I could know it was true tbh.

FlyOnTheWall89 · 20/10/2021 11:03

@i123i Thank you so much for sharing. That is really interesting. I love seeing other peoples BFP and I think it gives us all hope that soon it will be us sharing for others. Wishing you all the best with the bean x

i123i · 20/10/2021 11:07

@Lianna93 - ahh that chart and consistent temp rise is definitely looking good right now! Fingers crossed for you!!

@Danani - I take my temperature at roughly the same time each day +/- 1 hour or so. But I’m not perfect at it either! Unfortunately I am a light sleeper so tend to wake up naturally around the same time most days, which would be around my alarm clock time anyway. On days where I have to get up earlier with an alarm clock, I just measure then. The hardest thing I found is that if I was drinking alcohol the night before I’d have to exclude that temperature that next morning, which while on holiday (which is when we - hopefully - conceived) can be tricky!! But I only excluded it if I’d had more than 2 glasses of wine πŸ’
On OPKs, I tried them quite a few times when we first started TTC a few months ago and never managed to get a positive which was a bit of a worry (maybe my timing was a bit off?). So I just stopped using them in the last few months and just based it off BBT and cycle day. Luckily my cycles have become quite a bit more regular over the past year or two so a little easier to predict the fertile window. I’ve also been taking fertility supplements since we started TTC, which may have helped.

i123i · 20/10/2021 11:09

@FlyOnTheWall89 - thank you 😊 Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us! You’re all so strong and kind.

LittleMysSister · 20/10/2021 11:18

I don't do the BBT thing - what do you all use for this? What kind of thermometer?

Might have to add this to the list πŸ™„

i123i · 20/10/2021 11:22

@LittleMysSister - I use Natural Cycles and their branded thermometer (it’s an annual subscription). I’ve been using it for about 2 years now. Initially as contraception (ie. use condoms in the fertile window but nothing in the other days of my cycle), and then in the past few months for TTC. I think it’s pretty good but I have nothing to compare it too!

HRHXO · 20/10/2021 11:29

Morning all!

Quick update, me and DP managed to DTD last night with no performance issues πŸ˜‚ I'm so tired today though and doesn't help that the cat woke us up at 4.30am and I couldn't get back to sleep.

Question re BBT, I don't track mine but would it be too late to start during my fertile week? I am CD14 and getting high on CB OPKs but low reading on easy @ home (25miu ones though).

Also can I use a regular thermometer?

Sorry if this seems like a silly question I'm new to BBT!

HRHXO · 20/10/2021 11:34

Sorry just seem the questions on BBT and thermometers was answered just above lol! I am tired!

Lianna93 · 20/10/2021 11:35

@HRHXO I don't think it'd be too late but you're best to start at the beginning of your cycle to get a base temperature so that way, you can detect ovulation etc.
You need a thermometer that tracks decimal points, so a standard thermometer won't do as that'll only give you (as an example) 36.3 rather than 36.32 - if that makes sense?

Effram · 20/10/2021 11:39

Congrats @i123i !! I also use and rate natural cycles so am obviously obsessively comparing my chart to yours haha! It's annoying because I used it to get pregnant with my last son but I can't work out how to exclude cycles and I can't easily compare it to the cycle I got pregnant because there is a ridiculous 600 day cycle in there (i.e. pregnancy, lol). Maybe It's good as otherwise I would be obsessively comparing day to day!

I have convinced myself we are out this month... I just don't think we timed it right, but never mind. I did, obviously, use one of the one-steps this morning because I have no self control, even though its only about 7-8DPO and I kept trying to convince myself I could see something even though I couldn't!

I will probably do the same on Friday, I reckon I am due on on Sunday. but now I am mainly just looking forward to next month!

I am enjoying living vicariously through everyone else's BFPs though :)

Lianna93 · 20/10/2021 11:41

@LittleMysSister these are the things we never think about until we look back.
But I feel like it's only until we're TTC that we're actually properly aware of our bodies.
It's a shame these questions will never be answered ☹️
I often wish there was something that could confirm if it was AF of MC, there's been a few times in my life where AF hasn't been it's norm & I've found myself googling it πŸ™„πŸ˜‚

Effram · 20/10/2021 11:59

Oh my gosh I just wrote that then went back to look at the test I did and there is a super, super faint line. It is obviously out of the time to read it but I did think I saw something at the time.... I just did another one but obv that was a 1 hour hold and I think there is something on that too but it's too faint to photograph. I am going to be so impatient until tomorrow morning now...! arghhhhh
