Home insemination - maybe baby finally?

Hello everyone,

This is Sweetfudge from the home insemination crisis question of ages ago - Just want to post and say I'm hoping that the sore nipples then very sore boobs I've been having from 2 days after the inseminations mean only one good thing -that it has worked. I've had tummy cramps eight days post ovulation and am on day 11 now without cramps again. Normally, when I get cramps, AF knocks on the door the day after.

Boobs are like melons and dh is having a ball. He has been scrutinising them and says left boob is also larger than the other and there is a fine blue vein appearing. Ah! explains why I've been leaning slightly left into the wind lately.

Is that odd? Anyone else have lopsided veiny boobs as a possible good sign?Or am I turning into Quasimodo and eventually, the hump will make an appearance?

Dh wants me to test but I'm too nervous. The thought makes me sick actually. We've been zooming into London for months to pick up the sperm and high tailing it back to our place each time to inseminate - it has failed each time so far. The last failed attempt was particularly hard to bear since we thought it'd finally worked.

I'd become so frustrated at the time (an hour) it took between our donor producing the goods and it getting inseminated into me that we finally hired a van last time around (tried to make it cosy at back of the van but short of getting our bed in there, it was going to be quite uncomfortable) and we inseminate round the corner from donor's place. (I mooted the idea again of inseminating at his place but he was very uncomfortable with that - He explained that it was crossing a boundary for him).

Dh understands and I tried to. I know how much he is already helping by doing this for us and words will never adequately express how thankful we are for his caring. Yet some frustrated selfish part of me (the one that wants children so much) thinks "Crossing a boundary? We crossed that boundary 800 miles back! I'm being inseminated with your sperm, Man! This is no time to be squeamish!" It felt like I was being given the tools but not the means of using them effectively.

We were convinced it would work if we closed the time gap. I cried for days when it failed. Just sobbed like a stuck pig for days anywhere...in the shower, in the car, in the pasta aisle of Tesco, onto some paperback at Borders, you get the idea.

I think we'd reached the edge, looked over and just saw years of trying and failing whilst left right and centre, our mates were getting pregnant and having kids.

Anyhow, I'm going to wait till next Monday before I test - if AF doesn't come a knocking before then.

I think the signs are good so far - Any thoughts?

Send us good thoughts for this to work..finally. I send truckloads of babydust to all the members trying to conceive. May we all get the precious +ves we dearly want and dream of.

Sweetfudge

Hester, Many, Many congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very happy for you - Don't suppose one of your boobs is bigger than the other? My left one is, I swear a cup size bigger than the right. It's also the veiny one. I hope the other one catches up or I will start to look very, very odd.

It has been draining as you say and tough. But I can't feel anything but hopeful and optimistic right now since it feels like it might have worked.

How have you done yours if you don't mind me asking? Our strategy has been to fix it on the day of ovulation, call donor and see if he can do it that day, fix a time, start to our destination and call donor fifteen minutes beforehand so he can get the kettle going and warm the storage flask (Donor set the minimum time to call. DH says 15 mins is ample time for a bloke even under pressure)

We then wait round the corner from his place, he calls on the mobile when he's ready and DH runs to collect it and dashes back to the car. We are usually stuck for ages in traffic after that. So, I inseminated in the back of a hired van this last two times.

It would be good to compare notes so I can see where to improve on mine if we have to keep trying.

hugs and congrats againxxxxxxSweetfudge

Thanks so much for the congratulations, SweetFudge, motherinferior and Marina - this is one of the happiest days of my life and it's so lovely to share it with you gorgeous MNetters, specially as it's still a secret in RL

Now Ms Fudge, I can't claim to be an expert on asymetric bosoms, but I would think it very possible that one would swell up before the other.

I have never had to do insemination in such difficult circumstances as you - I have ALWAYS either visited donor at his house and done it there, or got him to come to mine. So huge sympathies for that. I do think your van is a good idea - sperm start dying very quickly and though it is still very possible to get pregnant after waiting an hour, it has to boost your chances to use it more quickly.

I did worry a bit about your references to kettles and warming the flask, though. This shouldn't be necessary, and it does run the risk of cooking the sperm. Excess heat kills them very quickly, so I'd want to be sure I trusted my donor not to heat any more than body temperature.

I am a complete insemination anorak (both through work and my home pursuits!), and would be happy to swap loads of info if you would find that helpful. If you'd like me to CAT you, do just ask.

Last time seems so long ago - I really hope it works this time.

SweetFudge,
best of luck ...

Bozza · 11/11/2004 20:31

Sweetfudge I am still partially breastfeeding my six month old DD and my left breast is bigger than my right - before pregnancy both were the same and the same happened with DS but they went back to the same. Hope this sounds positive.

Bozza, Thank you very much for letting me know about yours - I'm really glad to hear I'm not the only one. I feel quite self conscious about my boobs anyway (have a thick red old scar from surgery which is quite unsightly and visible when in low cut tops). I would not be impressed if the lopsidedness was another Bridget Jones situation for me.

I hope that my breasts continue to get more sore and bigger(though goodness knows, they don't need to get any bigger) as the days pass as it will be a good, good sign.

xxxSweetfudge
