Period late & negative test - am I just getting my hopes up?!

For the last 2 years I have always come on my AF 15DPO (i'm not sure how as I can always vary with when I come on! Confused) my last period was the 3rd January, so according to my app I ovulated around the 20th. My DF and I dtd within 72 hours of ovulation.. before, on the day, and the day after.

I'm currently 4 days late (19DPO) and I have been having intermittent cramps which feel like period cramps (quite strong at some points), sore boobs, tiredness, slight nausea, back ache, feeling wetness down below (TMI.. sorry!) and a bit of a metallic taste in my mouth for the last 10 days.. but when I took a test it was a BFN. Nothing has affected me otherwise i.e stress, gain/lost weight etc so at this point I'm baffled.

We have been TTC for the last 4-5 months and I feel at this point I may just be getting my hopes up and I'm not pregnant.. I'm simply just hoping that I am! Sad

Does anyone have any advice? success stories? just anything lol? I feel like I am driving myself insane because I want it so bad!

Hi @sholllssss 👋🏼
I understand how you feel, it is a very frustrating part of TTC. I can't offer you any insight, but my advice would be to stop relying on an app to tell you when you ovulate. There is no way an app can detect ovulation. It can make an educated guess but it's not uncommon for women to ovulate a bit earlier or a bit later from cycle to cycle. Look into BBT and/or OPKs if you want to target BD to your fertile window. Otherwise, the NHS advice is BD every 2-3 days until you get a period or a BFP.
I think what has happened here is you ovulated late. That means that your period or your BFP will be late too! I hope it's the latter! 🤞🏼 🧚🏼‍♀️

I'm the exact same at the minute and I just wish there was a way to know the answer! I've been on Letrozole previously for 3 cycles and last cycle Clomid which caused me to be in so much pain around ovulation I booked myself a private scan which showed 5 haemorraghic cysts. Both my fertility nurse and the sonographer both say these are from releasing 5 eggs this cycle so I know for sure I ovulated (superovulation!). I'm now around 5 days late and all my tests are BFN. Also I spot always for 4/5 days before AF so even if I started spotting now AF would be like 10 days late. It's doing my head in

Hi Eloise 👋🏻 Thank you so much for getting in contact! It really is so frustrating as I fell pregnant with my first DS so quickly, without even trying and I had a BFP before I was even due on AF! But I understand that every pregnancy is different, so it’s going to take a little longer this time! Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it! ☺️🤗

Hi @Crazydoglady123 Thank you so much for getting in contact! I feel you! I’m at the point where I just want AF or a BFP just so I can relax a bit because it’s just so stressful not knowing what’s going on with your own body! Sad Sending all my love to you and hoping you get that positive! Flowers

@sholllssss in my 24 months TTC this is messing with my head the most! I've had so much pain with my cysts I'm desperate for a scan to see what's happening and I have to book it on CD1....whenever that is going to be 😐 I keep looking for stories of late BFP's but I'm loosing hope that it could be possible after so many BFN's this last week but everyone keeps telling me I'm not out until AF arrives 🙄

pixiedust21 · 08/02/2021 20:11

Same position here... period is late but negative tests and just want to know either way! Why would this month be the month I randomly skip/have a late period?! Ugh. Sending solidarity xx

Bandino · 08/02/2021 23:17

I thought I couldn't be pregnant from ovulation dates. I tested as I was late and it was negative. Tested a few days later and it was positive. So you never know, I would say.

pixiedust21 · 08/02/2021 23:33

@Bandino how many days late were you when you tested positive?

Crazydoglady123 · 09/02/2021 07:19

Finally this morning I'm spotting when I wipe so AF on her way. Just so glad to either way!

Bandino · 09/02/2021 21:53

I think 5 or 6 days Pixie. Yes sometimes it's better to know where you stand op.

sholllssss · 10/02/2021 08:01

update for anyone following..

I still have no AF but still all the symptoms (sore breasts, cramps, nauseous, blue veins on my breasts, fatigue, emotional) but took a test this morning and BFN Sad so it's probably certain that i'm not pregnant, but i'm just so angry at my body right now for fooling me into thinking that I am. I've been having these symptoms for near on 10 days now but still no AF, I'm so frustrated.

why does TTC have to be so hard! Sad

Going crazy now. Day 39 of this cycle with no AF (definitely weird for me) but BFN in all the tests! I'm obviously not pregnant as it should surely have shown at this stage but I wish I would just get something. Grrr.

Crazydoglady123 · 10/02/2021 15:10

It's such a frustrating feeling isn't it. Hope something happens soon for you either or! My long cycle has turned into something very "meaty"...sorry tmi but just passed two big chunks of fleshy/purple lumpy tissue 🤢

@pixiedust21I'm Day 39 too! My AF has decided to make an appearance in the last hour though, so the BFN were right Sad

It's so frustrating when you want it so bad, but struggle to get it. All the stress and heartache will be worth it in the end! xx

It can be a very fraught time. I hope it works out for you all soon.

pixiedust21 · 10/02/2021 22:33

In another thread someone mentioned that if you take pregnacare vitamins these have made a lot of women's cycles really long or at least messed them up. I've been taking them (well the boots version!) so I wonder if this is why my cycle is longer this month. :(

Thinking of just taking plain folic acid tablets from now on. Just want AF to come so I can get tracking for next month!

Anyway just thought I'd post this in case it's relevant for anyone else x

Hans09 · 11/02/2021 22:24

@pixiedust21 Hi! Thanks for posting.
I took pregnacare vits at the start of Jan, I finished the pack when I was due on CD29/30. I’m now CD44 with no AF but BFN. I’m just sticking to Folic acid from now on but it’s so frustrating waiting to try again, never thought I’d be wanting AF to show up!
I’ve read so many stories about these tablets causing issues I wish I’d known before i took them. I’ve been off them for 2 weeks now, can I ask did you stop taking the tablets before AF showed up? I can’t find any similar stories where it’s taken so long after stopping the tablets.

Hans09 · 11/02/2021 22:30

@pixiedust21 so sorry I’ve just re-read and realised AF has shown up for you yet either! I guess we are in the same boat Sad

pixiedust21 · 11/02/2021 23:41

@Hans09 yeah same position as you :( really annoying. I didn't know about the vitamins either. I'm on day 40 now. Just have to ride it out I guess. Sending solidarity!

pixiedust21 · 13/02/2021 12:10

Day 42 and just so annoyed now. Haven't taken the vitamins in a little while and just taking folic acid. Keep thinking AF surely must be coming, sore boobs etc. Just want to move on into a new month. So so annoying. I do have more preg tests but don't see a point in testing as it'll obviously be negative.

Just can't do anything at this point!

Hans09 · 13/02/2021 13:50

I’m day 46 (usually 29/30 day cycle). I feel the exact same. I did another test this morning and BFN, I wanted to be sure before I have a drink tonight. I was sure AF was arriving yesterday as I had all the symptoms but I don’t feel anything today. I’ve seen others say AF turns up soon after they stop taking the tablets so hopefully you can begin the cycle again soon although I haven’t taken them for over 2 weeks now.
I just feel like I want to stop trying. We havent been TTC for very long but in that time 3 of my friends have got pregnant and I can’t help but feel so jealous, it’s a horrible feeling.

pixiedust21 · 13/02/2021 13:58

@Hans09 ah I'm so sorry, yeah it's really crap!!

Hans09 · 13/02/2021 14:06

Keep me posted I’d love to know how you get on. Have you been trying long?

fyre · 13/02/2021 14:08

Hi ladies! Can I join? Cycle 9, CD 49, lots of symptoms but no AF, BFN this morning which is very confusing!
Looking for a glimmer of hope too 🤞🏼

pixiedust21 · 13/02/2021 17:16

@Hans09 this was just our first month of trying so I wasn't really expecting to get pregnant straight away - but still having cycle messed up is really annoying! What about you, how long have you been TTc? Is this the first month you've had an issue like this?
