Best chance of conceiving

Me and my partner have been timing ovulation and I’ve been using fertility lube (conceive plus) and taking supplements. I know it’s only a 30% chance every month but I thought doing everything right would help. We had sex every day of my fertile week including twice on ovulation day and I’ve just come on my period. Really thought I had a chance this month!
Has anyone tried the male supplements as well as the female ones and found they have helped? Or anything else? I know it sounds silly buying all these products but I just willing to try anything to help!
Also, i hear mixed views on when to have sex near ovulation/fertile week. Is everyday better or every other day? Also heard people say to have sex 2 days before and one day after. But we did that this time.
Thank you and happy new year. Hoping this year will get my BFP ♥️

Ah, the spam, it's burning my eyes! Grin I get it OP, it's incredibly frustrating. How long have you been trying? From friends anything from 1 month to a year plus is normal, even if you're having lots of sex and generally healthy.

Graced05111991 · 26/12/2020 11:31

Only about 4 months, just hurting every time even though I know can take up to a year! Doesn't help when my friends took them 1-3 months between them all. Thank you x

Ttc is such a headfuck, I have no idea if supplements work but if you both try and eat healthily and not too much caffeine and alcohol that has to help.

I'd say it took the vast majority of my friends 6 months+ to conceive so don't lose hope!

Bleepers · 26/12/2020 13:36

The only thing id do differently is have sex every other day rather than every day. Give him a chance to rejuvenate! It worked for us.

CausingChaos2 · 26/12/2020 13:55

I wonder the same as you OP, and have been trying for a while now. When you do everything you can and it still doesn’t happen - why?

I’m not taking any specific pregnancy supplements, but am on a few anyway like Vitamin D, B12. Non smoker, I never drink, no caffeine. It’s very frustrating but getting upset about it probably hinders your chances too, so I try to let it not get me down. Hope you get your a BFP soon.

gypsywater · 26/12/2020 14:00

How old are you? The stats for likelihood per decent try per cycle do vary with age.

gypsywater · 26/12/2020 14:01

Are you using Clear Blue OPKs or cheaper ones? Or just an app?

Graced05111991 · 26/12/2020 14:42

@CausingChaos2 Its heart breaking isn't it! We have also given up alcohol and caffeine. Hope you get yours soon too. X

@gypsywater I'm 29 and my partners 31. Both healthy. We also use the clear blue ovulation sticks advanced one with 4 days and then the cheap sticks to match. Always shows positive!

@larrythelizard thank you! It really is!

@Bleepers thank you, will try this next cycle :)

Odds definitely in your favour then! Was just reading about percentage chance per month by age and I think its 25-30% at your age so you'll get there soon I'm sure! The CB advanced are so good. I wasted loads of months using just the FF calculator before moving to the CBs.

gypsywater · 26/12/2020 14:45

Agree with PP suggestion sex every other day!

SEpoppet · 26/12/2020 15:21

@Graced05111991 I have been trying about the same amount of time as you and know how you feel- so frustrating to get AF when you feel you have done everything right. Someone on here recommended watching the 'fertility' episode of 'Sex, explained' on Netflix. I found some of it really helpful and surprising - I didn't realise how challenging it is for a sperm to actually get to the egg! Apparently nature makes it so difficult so only one sperm can get to the egg at once - more than one and it won't fertilise. That helped me to be a bit more rational and not assume there is an issue. Good luck!

Graced05111991 · 26/12/2020 16:06

@SEpoppet Aw thank you so much. It just seems so unfair! I never knew it would be this difficult really haha. Onwards and upwards....

Thank you Graced05111991 Smile

Have you heard of the sperm meets egg plan? Like you, we DTD every day during fertile week this month. I’m thinking of suggesting we do SMEP instead this month, seems slightly less exhausting.

MoopN86 · 26/12/2020 18:33

Hi @Graced05111991

My DH and I have been trying for nearly two years. We’ve just had our BFP and I really feel like we tried everything to make it work...and it did.
Weekly acupuncture that specialises in fertility (it made me ovulate for four days straight)
Try home insemination (weird, but works)
Make sure you lay with a pillow under you for at least 20mins after
Conceive gel
Low exercise - I stopped running/HITT
Healthy diet
Waking
Don’t have any hot baths in the two week wait (embryos don’t like to overheat)
Lots of sex in the key week.

I hope it happens for you, I’m sure it will. Just stay positive xx

Graced05111991 · 26/12/2020 18:35

@CausingChaos2 what does smep mean sorry? It is exhausting and didn't work for us!

OP posts:
Graced05111991 · 26/12/2020 18:37

@MoopN86 Thank you so much! What's home insemination involve?
I use fertility gel and I did try the pillow trick once!
Interesting about the hot baths I have baths every other evening normally. Didn't know that one so thank you!
I'm having acupuncture on the 9th Jan if covid permits but sadly not sure can afford every week :(
I can probably get reflexology twice a month though as that's cheaper. I did try that once this month and didn't work. Thank you for your help Smile

MoopN86 · 26/12/2020 19:00

@Graced05111991 so basically your OH should do his thing Wink into a bowl/cup and then using a specialised insemination kit, use that to (I know this is graphic) suck up the sperm and lay back already on your pillows and insert the insemination kit as close to the cervix as possible and then just push them in. Basically like the old school chicken baster hahaha. It just means the sperma gets really close to the egg and cervix and doesn’t get lost on the way and doesn’t find the egg.

Yeah don’t overheat. Embryos like to be warm but NOT really hot. Could cause early miscarriage. So luke warm and short bath if you must have them.

Graced05111991 · 26/12/2020 19:35

@MoopN86 oh wow! Haha sounds interesting! Thank you for your help.

MayDay27 · 26/12/2020 20:09

@MoopN86 congratulations on your BFP!!
I currently run maybe 3/4 times a week not far maybe 5k or so a time. I saw your post saying you stopped exercising and wondered if you had seen that was advised? If it is is it just during your fertile week?

MoopN86 · 26/12/2020 20:24

Hi @MayDay27 I just stopped running in my two week wait. I’m sure it would be fine and exercise is good for you. But I just didn’t want to risk anything and thought I’d give it up whilst waiting. I use to workout a lot, sometimes twice a day and feel like it may have stopped me (along with other things) from falling pregnant.
Obviously I’m no Dr and you have to do you feel is right, I just thought I’d go for walks and do yoga in wait as opposed to hard exercise. Hope that helps x
