How long to get a bfn after chemical pregnancy?

I’m on the TTC after 12 months+ thread but thought this might be worth a separate post. Does anyone have experience of how long it took to get a bfn after a chemical?

This is our 12th cycle ttc and I spotted on day 29. Positive test on day 30 but spotting turned to red bleeding and lots of it, like a period. Accepted now that this isn’t going to work out. I’ve bled for three days now. But it’s now day 32 and I’m still getting faint lines. Weirdly the lines are coming up in the afternoon rather than the morning (Yes, I am testing morning and afternoon looking for a bfn. I’m trying not to give myself a hard time about this.)

I thought it would be very quick to go negative as it was so early that I bled, basically when my period was due. I also have sore breasts, which is confusing me. I just want to put this behind me and move on.

First picture is my original positive on day 30. Second picture is this afternoon’s test.

Thanks.

So sorry to hear, I think I left it a week to test and then had negatives. I think if your still getting negatives after 2 weeks call your GP.

ActonBell · 24/12/2020 19:20

@wavecatcher - thanks. Test this afternoon was darker, a pretty clear line, so confusing! I think if by the middle of next week I’m still getting lines (more than a week after the first positive) I’ll try to speak to the GP.

So confusing for you, hopefully the doctor can offer more advice.

Littlebee1990 · 24/12/2020 22:54

I advised not to test until 1 week after the last day of bleeding as the HCG will still be in your system. I think the best thing would be to test again next week. Sorry I know it’s awful, I had a CP in June, I did fall again 2 cycles later and I’m now 20 weeks pregnant, good luck xx

ActonBell · 26/12/2020 18:59

Thanks @Littlebee1990 - trying to keep my expectations low but it’s hard. Feeling pregnant today - sore boobs, sensitive to smells. Line this morning was the darkest yet. But... it could be that my body isn’t getting the message about the chemical yet.

I've had 5 chemicals in a row and I can tell you mine all went negative before i bled. This could be something else so if your still getting positives like this in a couple days I'd call your doctor xx

ActonBell · 26/12/2020 20:57

Thanks @Solomon1212 - I’m going to try to speak to someone on Monday for advice. Bleeding completely stopped yesterday and still getting positives. Hopefully I can get an HcG blood test at least to see whether it’s increasing or not.

And I’m so sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancies. That must be so tough. Flowers

@ActonBell I don’t think tests should get darker for a CP, I’d call Monday to get some advice. Could well be implantation bleeding? X

LividLover · 26/12/2020 21:25

Without worrying you too much, weird HCG can be a symptom of ectopic pregnancy.

If you’re sure you aren’t just super-early, please watch out for fainting, nausea, shoulder tip pain and it’s a medical emergency if you do.

LividLover · 26/12/2020 21:27

How many dpo are you? Did you test for ovulation? Are you sure it’s not just a very Early BFP?

My sticky baby came after what I thought was a 1.5 day period. If I’d tested before the bleed I would’ve been convinced it hadn’t worked.

Solomon1212 · 26/12/2020 21:58

It's such a worry but I'd personally be hopeful. Implantation bleeding is quite common and I had heavy bleeding early with my son who is now 9. I was convinced I'd miscarried. Stay positive until you know what's going on xx

Smilingdonkey · 26/12/2020 23:34

Sorry you are having such a tough time. Those first response tests pick up the smallest amount of HCG. I was stil getting positives on them 8 weeks after my MMC and when I had the blood tests the HCG was at 4!! Madness! They stayed vvv faint right up until I conceived so I know I ovulated and even then it was picking up the miniscule amount of HCG still left. I would test again in a week and call GP if it is still a faint positive. If you are pregnant or will be clearly darker by then too 😊 xx

ActonBell · 27/12/2020 15:27

Thanks all. I’m still trying to sit lightly to it as who knows what’s going on. Keeping alert for any ectopic symptoms- I have some slight dizziness but that’s it, no pain to speak of. I got a ‘pregnant 1-2m’ on a clear blue digital this afternoon. Going to try to speak to GP this week.

I am in the exact same boat. I am on day 2 of heavy bleeding but had a clear as day bfp again. Just don’t know what to expect 😩

ActonBell · 27/12/2020 18:15

I’m sorry to hear that @Missyj22879 Fingers crossed there’s some clarity for both of us over the next week or so. Flowers

My lines were barely non existent before I even started bleeding. Fingers crossed for you, hope you get some answers x

ActonBell · 29/12/2020 09:05

2-3 on a clear blue digital today! I’m having trouble getting a GP appointment (understandable given the time of year and the current situation). Still feeling confused.

OP posts:
Smilingdonkey · 29/12/2020 10:05

I would say that's probably a BFP then! If it is darker on a Frer of would confirm it no? The CB digitals are not very sensitive at all! Xxxx

Smilingdonkey · 29/12/2020 10:07

Only thing i'd check is for ectopic perhaps? Just in case. Xxxx

ActonBell · 29/12/2020 13:42

Got to talk to GP and got HcG bloods done. Repeat bloods in 48 hours and take it from there. May need an early scan to check on ectopic possibility.

Hi sorry to hear you are going through this, I had a chemical in May and got positives for 2 weeks afterwards untill they finally stopped.
I got pregnant 2 months later and I'm now 23 weeks, so try and keep positive Flowers
