Ttc number 2 and over 40 - anyone want to join?

AntiHop · 26/07/2020 18:48

I'm 42, have a 5 year old dd and ttc number 2. I would have loved to try when dd was younger for a smaller age gap, but that wasn't financially viable.

We've been ttc since nov last year so starting to give up hope now. Had a chemical pregnancy a couple of months ago.

Anyone else in a similar boat?

Hi! I'm 41 and ttc number 2! My DD is 17 years old though so a very big age gap. This will be my DP's first. I came off the pill Oct 2017 however this is our second month actually trying

HouseOfRunners · 26/07/2020 20:20

Same as you, except I’m 43 😂
I was suppose to ovulate 2 days ago....nope!

AntiHop · 27/07/2020 15:42

Hello @HouseOfRunners and @Mysticalpanther.

House how do you know if you've ovulated or not? I tried the sticks but I'd forget to do them. I go by cm and how I feel (I notice men more when I'm ovulating Grin ).

HouseOfRunners · 27/07/2020 16:28

CM too.....not the men though 😂😂
I’ve have used the OPK today and had a strong peak so DH is happy....I’ve got a lot of ovulation pain and feel so bloated.

Mysticalpanther · 27/07/2020 18:31

I'm the same! I just go on CM and feeling horny!
I have 2 apps I use to track my periods which also gives me any idea. Think I ovulated today 😀

Bouncytree · 27/07/2020 19:49

Hi @AntiHop @HouseOfRunners @Mysticalpanther

I will join you. I’m 41 and trying for baby #2. DS is 3 in November. This is our 4th cycle TTC.

We also had a loss at 5 weeks. I feel for @AntiHop, it is really tough. I found it very difficult at the time, but I also think it shows everything is working, it’s just a matter of time. The wait is to hard though!

I used OPKs for the first time this month along with CM and worked well, so feel like we have it a good go this month!

It’s been very confusing since the loss, I’ve had pregnancy type symptoms, cramps, sore breasts.

AF due wed and desperately trying not to buy a FRER!

AntiHop · 27/07/2020 23:05

Welcome @Bouncytree
Sorry for your loss. Flowers

After my chemical pregnancy I had weeks of phantom kicks. So bloody unnerving.

My AF is due tomorrow. Wish me luck! I'm pretty sure I had pmt though.

Good luck @AntiHop, hopefully this will be your month 🤞

Aww congratulations @AntiHop, that's exciting

HouseOfRunners · 28/07/2020 10:19

Hi everyone 😘

So sorry to read about the loses and sending you all love. I experienced two missed miscarriages, found out about both at scans. Very traumatic indeed.

So I’m a bit confused. Yesterday I had a clear very dark peak on An OPK but today there is hardly a line. Days before the peak were the same, barely there. This is a bit odd no? Surely it’s supposed to get darker and then fade away again?

HouseOfRunners · 28/07/2020 10:20

Wowsers @AntiHop🥳🙌🏼❤️ Amazing news!!!!!!!!

HouseOfRunners · 28/07/2020 10:43

@Bouncytree did you cave in and buy the FRER??

Mysticalpanther · 28/07/2020 15:03

@HouseOfRunners I'm not sure about the OPK strip thingys. Best advise would be to just DTD every second day from after your period ends and hope for the best. I know that it would be helpful to know exactly when you ovulate but I'm of the the opinion that it kind of puts extra pressure on you.

Bouncytree · 28/07/2020 16:15

@AntiHop OMG!!! Congratulations that’s so amazing. Delighted for you!

@HouseOfRunners no I have somehow managed to hold off!! aF due 2m. Very sore breasts but it was the same last month, my body signs are all mixed up after the loss. But I have had pain in my hip joints which I had at my last implantation that didn’t stick. So always possible. 😬

So both those tests at the same time And different @houseof runners? That is confusing. But I would say if you do get one that is a dark line that is your peak starting or happening. We’re both done in the same wee? Def a bit odd. I would defo DTD as soon as you can and It can be a good idea to keep testing to see how long the peak lasts.

I used the OPK strips and CB this month To test them. I found them good. I normally DTD every second day around predicated ovulation, but it did give me the option of making sure I did it the day of the peak, right before ovulation happened. It’s kinda reassuring to know your ovulating and I will do them again. But I agree @Mysticalpanther they do add more pressure. DS was worn out doing it two days in a row this month 🤣.

@HouseOfRunners do you have an app to input pics? I used femometer this month and found it really good. My LH peaked really quickly, inwill post my pics now to show you,

Bouncytree · 28/07/2020 16:25

@HouseOfRunners
So this is my OPKs in the femometer app. It gives you percentages and tells u when the peak is. Once you see a Definite line other than the control It’s likely your peak is on the way and it’s a good idea to test a few times that day.

My readings were

24% at 5
41% at 8
200% at 20

Next morning

109%

So the peak happened for me in 5 hours. Different Timescale for everyone I’m sure.

HouseOfRunners · 28/07/2020 17:04

@Mysticalpanther every other day....I wish I had the energy 😂😂 My DH would probably send you a bunch of flowers if I agreed to that 😂😂

HouseOfRunners · 28/07/2020 17:11

@Bouncytree you have nerves of steel 💪🏼

Sorry I wasn’t clear. The one which is the definite peak was yesterday at 8am....the one with the faint line was today at 8am....we dtd last night so I’m hoping we are in the right window.
I use Femometer too and until yesterday the lines were all faint or non existent.
It just seemed weird to me that there was no build up and just a clear peak out of nowhere 😂
However....looking at yours it was up over only 5hrs. It’s all so interesting. Love medical stuff!
Thanks for your reply and I have everything crossed for you - will you rest in the morning or wait to see what happens? xx

Gimmeashake · 28/07/2020 17:18

I'll join!Smile 41 and ttc no. 2. Was not financially viable before now. DD is 11! I do have worries and doubts, compounded by the pandemic, but I just feel time is running out and I need to know that I tried.

Bouncytree · 28/07/2020 17:38

@Gimmeashake welcome! Yes I understand feeling concerned about Covid complications. We were put off in the beginning but just don’t have time to hang around.

If age has you concerned, see below for a really really good article from
The British Pregancy Advisory service that I found really helpful. Actually very appropriate to this group!

Obviously being younger is helpful to get pregnant, but there are a lot of cultural attitudes about older women at play in a lot of what is written and quoted about pregnancy after 35, both in the media and in medicine...see quote below and link. I think it’s unfair and counterproductive how much pressure women are made to feel about TTC after 35. Hope it helps bring some positivity 😊

“The widely citied statistic that only 66% of women aged 35 to 39 will be pregnant after a year of trying if based on a 2004 article in the journal Human Reproduction, which in turn is based on an analysis of French birth records from 1670 to 1830. The attraction of using data from a pre-modern population is the fact that the data is not distorted by the use of birth control. But as the psychologist Jean Twenge points out in her review of the literature, this was "a time before electricity, antibiotics, or fertility treatment".

For modern women, the reality is far better expressed in a 2004 study by David Dunson and colleagues, published in Obstetrics and Gynecology. This found that, if they were having sex twice a week, 82% of women aged between 35 and 39 fell pregnant within a year.“

Bouncytree · 28/07/2020 17:47

Lol @HouseOfRunners yes I am quite surprised at myself!! I think it’s only because I’ve driven myself so crazy in the last few months. I’ve kinda relearned through bitter experience and forking our a fortune that the missed period is the only real indication. Also I found out FRERs are only 50% accurate! So even a BFN doesn’t tell you your not pregnant, it just makes you confused! I did way too many last month. That said if I had one now I’d totally do it. I have a box of cheapies and I’ll be weeing on stick first thing in the morning and probably all day long after that if it’s negative 🤣

Ah I see yes, I think you just caught the peak about to happen. Next time u see a line keep testing. I did the same month. The leaflets they come with are misleading it does give you a qualitative read. They are a bit confusing. I tested a lot this month and used the OPK just do could learn how they work.

But you DTD, so that’s great timing! Fingers crossed for you!

@AntiHop how are you feeling?

Bouncytree · 29/07/2020 09:16

Eh so....I tested this morning though a little early and i think it’s a BFP.....I’m in shock!!! I’m not crazy right? There’s a line isn’t there. I’ve so down played it this month as Im so sick of getting over excited, that it is very hard to take in!

Mysticalpanther · 29/07/2020 11:46

@Bouncytree I see a line! That's really great news 😀

AntiHop · 29/07/2020 12:44

Oh my goodness @Bouncytree congratulations!

I am feeling fine thanks. In a bit of a daze.

Being pregnant right now is terrible timing, but I continued to ttc anyway. I've just left my job as it was a really toxic place. I would have only got some if I'd stayed so I decided to carry on ttc as at my age I couldn't risk taking a break. I'm just hoping I get a new job before I'm obviously showing. There's loads of contract work in my industry, so I can (hopefully) easily get a contract job if I don't get a permanent job soon.
