Ttc number 2 and over 40 - anyone want to join?

I'm 42, have a 5 year old dd and ttc number 2. I would have loved to try when dd was younger for a smaller age gap, but that wasn't financially viable.

We've been ttc since nov last year so starting to give up hope now. Had a chemical pregnancy a couple of months ago.

Anyone else in a similar boat?

I would recommend the pound land tests. I used the one in a single packet for a pound. I got a very clear line yesterday when my period was due. A couple of months ago (when I had a chemical), on the day my period was due, I got a much clearer line with the pound shop than the frer.

*I would only have got smp if I'd stayed in my last job I mean.

@AntiHop it must be so conflicting to feel so happy about your BFP and uncertain about work 😕
I have everything crossed for you and some contract work.
You are 100% right about our age though. Not like we are 25 and can put it off for a while is it?
Do you have any symptoms yet?

I always found the cheaper the test the better the result. And the blue dye ones were alway awful!

I am kinda in shock, but it’s slowly sinking in. The first month we were trying I was counting my due date, and thinking about all the changes to our lives, what we would need. But I was driving myself crazy and getting disappointed every month, so I just put it out of my head this time and now it’s taken me totally by surprise.

We were trying for 6 months on our first so I had resigned myself to trying longer than, but we have only been TTC for 4 cycles. So I hope that is hopeful for everyone!

So now it is slowly becoming real. We are very excited and can’t wait to have a brother or sister for DS. I am also having some ‘oh god it’s really happening’ feelings anticipating all the changes. Just the mind shift. I know the focus pregnancy brings you to make it all happen. Looking forward to feeling a little life growing. 🥰 Not many symptoms as yet, some cramps on first day which was A but Unnerving and some twinges, stitches and slightly Sore breasts.

@AntiHop, yes timing is a funny thing. At a certain point you have to put the TTC first, you’ve done the right thing. It’s unnerving not being settled in your job, I would be the same.

When we started TTC on #1, I had just started a one year contract after looking for a job for 1.5 years. I had moved countries and academic jobs are really hard to come by. We got pregnant in feb and I managed to hide it till summer break, and got a second contract, got a promotion when I was on maternity and made permanent on return. It worked out but was a bit nervy!

Me and my DP are really just seeing what happens. We have been actively ttc for only 2 cycles but really our house is not big enough and financially we are not really secure enough but we are getting older and though that we should at least try to avoid later regret. I always wanted a few kids but life didn't work out that way. I loved when my 17 year old dd was small, it was the best times. Anyway I'm due my period 11 aug.....🤞

I got some faint lines on Friday but nothing since. I’m due on from Wednesday onwards....I never really know as cycle can be 26 days to 35+

@HouseOfRunners yes hard to tell when is good to test if you don’t know when AF due.

But I do see a faint line on that test!

What kind of test is it, and how many dpo?

@Bouncytree exactly, AF due from 6th onwards. I’m a bit freaked out to see a positive this early.....I only had my peak (as seen on opk) 6 days ago so I’m only 6dpo at most.....weird. Very weird.

That is wierd, very early. It’s a dark art this TTC! Hold tight, hopefully things will be clearer in a few days. Though the waiting is always agony!

@Mysticalpanther it’s a bit of a catch 22 alright. Very hard to take the plunge if you don’t feel secure. But you will make it work. It’s funny how a baby on the way Focuses mind! Fingers crossed for 11th !

I'm 10dpo. My RHR has dropped down which is supposed to be a bad sign and I have no other noticeable symptoms so don't think it's going to be my month

@Mysticalpanther I didn’t know about RHR.....mine is quite low as I train a lot so I guess I wouldn’t notice it. Have you tested at 10dpo?

No news from me. Another BFN this morning (not even a squinter of a line) but no AF....I think the latest I’ll come on is 10th...so we will see. I have all the backache and usual cramps of AF.

@HouseOfRunners , I was holding off to the weekend to test.
My RHR is also low due to running but I read that it should go up if conception has occurred due to the increase in blood supply required but I suppose early on it shouldn't make too much difference, there are lots of threads and chats about it going up before you get your BFP🤷‍♀️

@Mysticalpanther That’s really interesting....I’ll have a read....it’s logical when you think about it. I remember always being hot when I was pregnant, again due to the extra work my body was doing.
When do you think you’ll test? Saturday or Sunday?

Another definite BFN for me today but still no AF.....I think I’ll leave testing now and just see what happens. It’s been a confusing month that’s for sure 🤦🏽‍♀️😄

I haven't tested yet, going to get some tests today, though think it will be a waste of time as I'm feeling the usual pre menstrual symptoms, tiredness, bloating, want to eat everything but also (tmi) very horny for reason 😂

So I’m 42 and we have a 4 YO DD. I got pregnant again about 18 months ago but it all went wrong at the 12wk scan. Not tried since as we wanted to give it a bit of time, plus our DD is a handful ;-) Anyway, back to TTC number 2 from this month! Need to get on the folic acid ASAP and just been recording all my stats on an app. Any tips much appreciated, do you guys test ovulation or just use an app?

I haven't been using the ovulation testing stuff as my cycles are very regular and I can usually tell from cm what's going on down there.
Me and my DP have only been trying for 2 cycles so I don't have many tips other than I have been taking a vitamin supplement for 3 months and making sure we do plenty of baby making fun every second day from last day of period ( a wise old relative recommended this 🤣). I'm just waiting on my period starting any day soon.....

Took me a second to realise what CM is 😂😂😂 Yes I can tell from that too I think! I’m going to use an app but yes every second day across the middle part of the cycle is what worked when TTC previously. Thanks :-) xxx
