Hey girls as we are about to get thrown out of our thread I have started a new one so we can continue manically looking for EWCM, sore (.)(.)s and orange feet whilst chanting 'in with love, out with BFNs'.

Come on over/in

Hi lilibet - I've never had a coil so I can't speak from experience, but it sounds like you're having an anovulatory cycle where you don't ovulate. It's quite common for most women to have one or two of these a year, especially if there's a big change in their lives or they're under stress. Perhaps having the coil removed has put your hormones 'on hold' for a bit. The 36 bleed would be an anovulatory bleed rather than a proper period. You can count Wednesday as CD1 if it helps.

If you're still not getting any EWCM this new cycle you could also check your cervix position as a guide to when you think you might be ovulating, soft high and open means you're fertile - hard low and closed means you're not.

And if you want to get really technical you can chart your temperatures which will let you know after you've ovulated that you definitely have released an egg. You'll then know when to expect AF/ when to test.

Some women do opk's if their cycle is normally quite regular, then you only need to do them for one cycle to know which day you 'normally' ovulate. My cycles are irregular so I spent a fortune weeing on opks getting negatives, only to get a positive that didn't really produce an egg (i.e. no AF and no BFP). Hence I'm now checking cervix position and taking my temps.

By the way, have you taken a test? If it was pink/brown spotting it might have been implantation...

Hope that helps and good luck this time!

dg you are a fountain of all knowledge in the TTC department. Can I ask you about this checking your cervix bit. I understand what you said about the positioning but how do you check. I'm really dim and need an instruction sheet Do you do it lying down and how do you know where your cervix is? Is there a website you've come across that helps you know how to do it? So many questions, sorry.

digitalgirl · 26/10/2007 16:50

this is the one I came across. Don't be put off by the 'outside force invading' business, our DH's do that on quite a regular basis.

As long as you check in the same position with the same finger (!) everyday you can then compare it over the cycle.

Your cervix isn't actually moving, it's just changing shape. When it's soft it's much rounder and flatter, when it's hard it's much pointier - you may even find that it lies against one side of the vag canal, so have a good sweep round if you can't find it!

As you can tell, I'm quite obsessed . This is what happens when doctors refuse to tell you why you're having long periods you end up doing your own research...

digitalgirl · 26/10/2007 16:52

PS I check mine in the shower every morning, one leg up on the side of the bath! apparently squatting is better because it pushes your cervix closer to the opening, so I would assume lying down would make it harder to find

07mumstheword · 26/10/2007 16:58

OMG Thank you for that it's so informative. I don't know if I can do it though! Maybe I'll try the OPK first! LOL

Bucky2007 · 26/10/2007 18:27

OMG DG and GG there really is a whole world outside the Conception thread! . There are things going on that give Hollyoaks some competition! Who knew???? I just LOVE giving relationship advice . This is the best.

Have a good holiday GG if we don't hear from you before you go.

DG - is it rubbish, the 'some women's EWCM isn't partic obvious' thing? - I do look out for mine but just can't find it so was quite happy up til now to believe it was there but just hiding..

..and.. if anyone has anything on the maybe-not-so-metallic metallic taste in pg mouths, I'd be grateful

Bucky2007 · 26/10/2007 18:34

For the benefit of everyone else, I never leave the conception thread and was amazed to hear about everything that goes on it the big wider MN world...I have ventured out today and it is well exciting. I am going to be even more addicted now .

ABBEYMEG You're back cycle buddy I thought you weren't coming back. So glad you did . We might not be Cycle buddies anymore though at TEW got me .

digitalgirl · 26/10/2007 21:31

abbeymeg!!! how are you? please tell us immediately.

bucky uh-oh I feel like a drug pusher who's just persuaded a friend to try something a bit 'harder'...now you'll leave MN and it'll be mine and GG's fault!!

spink some women's EWCM doesn't 'travel' down so you never see it. But, really it is there as the sperm need it for energy (it's like food) and it's the only type of CM that let's them swim through to the uterus. don't know about the metal mouth thing, I thought it was part of MS and the whole sensitivity to smells and taste thing (but that's just my guess), which some women get early on and some don't get till they're 6 or 7 weeks.

digitalgirl · 26/10/2007 21:32

oops bucky I meant never leave MN...

Bucky2007 · 26/10/2007 22:06

Spink I also read that as you get older you get less EWCM so when you are young and super fertile you can get up to 5 days of the stuff. When you are getting on a bit in fertile terms (like me ) you can get just a day or it might not appear at all . I don't know how old you are but this might have something to do with it too.

Good evening ladies!

ABBY how the devil are you?

Well news from me... cervix was so high this morning (since my last post) that I could just about feel it at the top there but couldn't tell if it was hard, soft, open or closed. But OPK was a definate negative I think multi checking has confused me about what's going on. I know last cycle I didn't ovulate till CD 21 but I don't know what a regular cycle is for me. I've had EWCM, OV pains and my cervix has been high soft and open BUT... I have had no positive OPK (although I got a semi strong line two days ago not enough to be a BFP tho) and I have also has no tale tale sore nips. I am seriously confused.

I am now in a panic because DP and I haven't BD'd for 48 hrs and he is away for the next 48 hours so if I haven't ovulated already I may miss the boat this month.... I'm becoming hyserical aren't I?

Sorry very self absobed post, hello to everyone, DG you are super informative, and obviously a great multi tasker as I really can't seem to get to grips with multi checking my fertility!

Bucky2007 · 27/10/2007 00:17

shreks where is madoldbird haven't seen her around today?

Well, here I am at 00.12, it seems in the last 15mins (thanks for the tip Pixie ) Steve's head has swollen up, i have been reminded of the irony of our children eating chocolate made by child slaves, I can buy a musical wind up big bird from sesame street that does peek a boo, I have checked out whether you should ring your sister if somebody else told you she was getting a divorce and a seven year old boy was in a museum drinking milk out of a baby's bottle ...I don't think I will ever sleep again. There is so much going on on MN .

Sorry I am being really bad... I have barely been writing anything on topic these days, which is very naughty. This is afterall a symptoms thread. I promise I will try and behave now and find useful and topical things to contribute from now on. Promise. Am I forgiven? .
