Need to lose weight to conceive

Sunstar16 · 17/06/2020 21:00

I am 33 and came off the mini pill in February. We were using protection until April. This cycle I have been tracking my BBT. AF is due tomorrow. I have cramps and a migraine aura so now I am out this month.

I have put on 2 stone in a year and now weigh over 16 stone. I am desperate for a baby so want to lose weight to try and concieve. I can't talk to my friends in RL about this.

I'm going to use it as a food diary and hopefully others who are in the same boat will join in.

Today I had wheetabix and a grapefruit for breakfast, lunch was a salad of lettuce, plum tomatoes, cucumber, feta, a spoonful of onion chutney and some crackers. For dinner I had chicken curry with boiled rice and a banana for a snack.

I also had 3 cups of coffee and want to cut this down to 1 in the morning and up my water intake.

Just wanted to say good luck! And also good on you for making these changes!

Try not to worry too much about caffeine and water intake right now. Partly because you don't want to change too much too quickly, but also because 3 cups of coffee isn't overly excessive (unless you're drinking it by the pint of course!)

One thing I would suggest, when you're ready for it, is to add in some very light exercise. Even if it's just a 20 minute walk here and there you'd be surprised how much of a difference it make. My RHR went from 68 to 56 after around 2 weeks of walking once a day. I couldn't believe how much of a difference such a small amount of exercise made to my overall health.

Nottherealslimshady · 17/06/2020 21:19

That's seems pretty good! I use myfitnesspal for food diary and weight tracking, it's awesome I'd be nowhere without it. Good luck :)

Sunstar16 · 17/06/2020 21:29

Thank you @Curiosity101 I take the dog out for a walk each day. I am going to try and fit in another walk too. She likes to take her time.

@Nottherealslimshady I will download myfittnesspal now Smile

Yeah dogs are always so busy checking their pee mails as they go along ! Haha.
Good luck with your weight loss journey.
My husband was very successful in shifting weight with the 16:8 fasting plan.

Sunstar16 · 17/06/2020 21:41

@Quackersandcheese3 thanks, that could be doable Smile. Slimming World never worked for me so 16:8 could be the answer as long as I stick to it.

Re the coffee, there are some nice decaf coffees so you could still have your 1 cup in the morning and your 2 decafs! I like the L'or decaf and a lot of people like the Nescafé Azera. Depending on what coffee you like xx

mylittlesandwich · 17/06/2020 21:49

Good luck OP. I had to shift a lot of weight to conceive DS so I know how hard it is. You have the perfect motivation so you can do it.

Quackersandcheese3 · 17/06/2020 21:57

There’s lots of threads on Mumsnet about the 16:8 and 5:2.
I just started 5:2 this week. watching the docu about it on I player just now.

Sunstar16 · 17/06/2020 22:34

Brilliant, @Quackersandcheese3. Good luck with it!

@StoneSourFan I'll add the decaf coffee to my shopping list.

@mylittlesandwich thank you. Glad it worked out for you.

Hi there

I started where you were at the end of January 16s 2lb - the heaviest I’d ever been. Through walking and diet planning I am now nearly at the 3 stone mark. I’ve been cafeful to ensure the food I do eat is geared towards conception. I’m not fussy so broccoli and cabbage don’t stress me 😂

Good luck!

emojisarentwords · 18/06/2020 02:18

I'm also trying to lose weight as I'm struggling to conceive. My problem is I can't sleep when hungry and fall asleep after I've eaten. It's becoming a huge problem as every time I think I'm back on track with the routine, I mess up again. Following your journey with interest, and will try to provide some support.

Sunstar16 · 18/06/2020 12:11

That's an amazing achievement @poptypingchef. What sort of meals have you been having?

@emojisarentwords My problem is wanting a snack at night. I'm sticking to 16:8 today. Would something like apple and peanut butter or something similar keep you going until morning?

It's been a manic morning so I am just sitting down now to food. Having wheetabix, grapefruit and first coffee. I'm making spaghetti bolognese for dinner and skipping the garlic bread. Everything is being tracked on Myfittnesspal.

Oooo can I join. I am currently 79.8kg my starting weight was 93kg. Weightloss has been slow. I lie to myself it’s because of PCOS, but it’s because I am addicted to sugar :(

wingingit123 · 18/06/2020 16:15

Can I join?

I have around 5 stone to lose. I have a DS and I got pregnant with him (after trying for a 3.5 years) after l lost 3 stone. We have been ttc baby 2 for a few years now & I'm finally doing something about my weight. I've lost 8 pounds, in calorie tracking, running and aiming for 10,000 steps a day

Sunstar16 · 18/06/2020 18:05

Of course you can @elakiya and @wingingit123 Smile. What have you had so far today?

Breakfast - wheetabix and pink grapefruit
Lunch - multigrain crackers with cheese and a few strawberries.
Dinner - spaghetti Bolognese (ate 3 bits of a garlic bread bagette that DH didn't want)
Snack tonight - spelga yogurt.

On myfittnesspal it works out as 1502 calories. I know it's not great with garlic bread and crackers with cheese but it is a whole lot better than what I have been eating. If I open a share bag of chocolates like mint aero bubbles, they would be gone in one sitting.

I took my dog out for an hour to the beach this afternoon and going out shortly for an hour long walk on my own.

@Sunstar16 I didn't have anything last night. It took every ounce of resolve I have but I did it. It was one of the good days, as I've definitely experienced the bad before. I've got 5 stone to lose to get to my previous weight, but want to lose 7 as I've always wanted to have a bmi close to the bottom of the healthy range rather than right at the top. You had a late start, are you having only the 2 meals a day or something else for evening meal? I had a few cups of tea, a tuna sandwich for brunch and then a late lunch of leftover pasta. Tonight we'll be having baked chicken with a load of sides.

emojisarentwords · 18/06/2020 18:12

Oops x post!

emojisarentwords · 18/06/2020 18:19

@poptypingchef well done, you've done great to lose nearly 3 stone. Can I ask what you mean by foods geared towards conception? I'm aware of things like maca which is a food but I wouldn't normally eat it, Agnus castus, raspberry leaf tea etc. But don't know which specific foods are best for conception? I have been trying to stick to an overall healthy diet which includes all types of nutrition but would be interested to know if a particular type is better for conceiving.

Sunstar16 · 18/06/2020 18:52

@emojisarentwords Well done for sticking to it and avoiding temptation last night! 5 stone will make such a difference.

It was such a late start because my DH dropped a can at the weekend from the top shelf of the fridge and it cracked the fridge floor. He tried to fill it with resin and it spilled on the counter top and in the fridge. It took longer to clean up than fix. Hmm It was one of those mornings.

Myfitnesspal is absolutely the way forward. The fact is, if you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. Good luck!

Sunstar16 · 18/06/2020 19:12

Thanks @borntohula Smile

wingingit123 · 18/06/2020 19:12

I've had

Lunch- an omlette
Snack - ice cream 🙈
Tea- spaghetti and meatballs and a slice of garlic bread

My fitness pal says it's 1403 calories.

poptypingchef · 18/06/2020 19:33

@emojisarentwords and @sunstar16

Things like avacado, cabbage, broccoli, pomegranate, Brazil nuts, chai seed, eggs, grapefruit and pineapple juice and grains.

In the morning I tend to go porridge with chai seed or a smoothie with the porridge oats in it. Or eggs and avocado.

Lunchtime something like couscous with veg through it and maybe some chicken or a salad

Dinner I’ve been using pinch of nom and slimming world recipes (not following the plan) and making sure I have a good proportion of the plate a mix of vegetables.

Who knows if It will help anymore but the weight is coming off so that’s something positive.

Elakiya · 18/06/2020 19:51

I watched a lot of YouTube videos on how to eat for PCOS, one woman I saw who had similar issues as I did said it’s good to keep all your carb content to a small window in your day, so she usually had the majority of her carbs for dinner.

I am trying to do something similar:

I have eggs for breakfast, soups for lunch with lentils, kale, meat and also have a roll with that.

Dinner is a smoothie

Snacks: fruits sometimes crackers.

My biggest issue is sugar... I do well for a couple of days then get a massive sugar craving and just go all out on carbs and sugar 😞

Sunstar16 · 19/06/2020 10:35

@wingingit123 At least you tracked the ice-cream Smile

@poptypingchef and @Elakiya I am doing a big shop today and will be adding your suggestions to my list!
