I am 33 and came off the mini pill in February. We were using protection until April. This cycle I have been tracking my BBT. AF is due tomorrow. I have cramps and a migraine aura so now I am out this month.

I have put on 2 stone in a year and now weigh over 16 stone. I am desperate for a baby so want to lose weight to try and concieve. I can't talk to my friends in RL about this.

I'm going to use it as a food diary and hopefully others who are in the same boat will join in.

Today I had wheetabix and a grapefruit for breakfast, lunch was a salad of lettuce, plum tomatoes, cucumber, feta, a spoonful of onion chutney and some crackers. For dinner I had chicken curry with boiled rice and a banana for a snack.

I also had 3 cups of coffee and want to cut this down to 1 in the morning and up my water intake.

Morning guys

Waiting on my call, was going to risk a walk but I’d hate to be in a blustery bit if they called so I’m staying put.

Avacado and scrambled eggs for breakfast. Thinking grilled chicken breast and veg for dinner 🤔

Rumtopf · 23/06/2020 14:41

Couldn't fast this morning as I was feeling a bit nauseous (?!) so had an apple and a couple of cheese triangles. Lunch was a can of tuna, some baby plum toms, cucumber and pickled beetroot with salad cream and some cherries. Dinner is poached salmon, broccoli and a big salad. I've got low carb high protein raspberry ripple ice cream for later courtesy of dh though!

Sunstar16 · 23/06/2020 16:23

@poptypingchef Hope the call went well.

@Rumtopf The ice-cream will be a nice treat.

I'm doing 16:8. Had weetabix and a grapefruit for breakfast with a glass of pommegrante juice. Lunch was a salad of spinch, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, feta, a spoonful of onion chutney and a couple of multigrain cracker. I'm having pineapple now before going to spin. I've also made sw curry with peppers, peas and onions with rice for dinner tonight. It will be close to 7 before I get that so no snacking after dinner.

How are you doing 16:8 and still eating 3 meals? Are you squeezing 3 meals into your 8 hour window? I thought the idea was to miss a meal and only eat two meals in your 8 hour window for 16:8.

poptypingchef · 23/06/2020 17:09

Not great @Sunstar16 started off really well as she was delighted that I’m now at a healthy weight and all my tests are grand but moved in to tell me that I likely won’t be approved for NHS as the list is so long I’ll be above the maximum age by the time I reach the top and they won’t allow us to self fund there as the list is so long they are prioritising NHS. Covid has meant the waiting time has been massively extended and will mean that it’ll be too long for us

Disappointing but nothing I can do.

littlejalapeno · 23/06/2020 17:58

Hi everyone, Can I join please? I’m also on a weight loss journey before TTC number 2. I’ve found it hard to shift the weight I’ve gained with number one and would like to lose 8kgs more. I’ve already lost 4kgs by using a post partum training programme. The trainer is very good and she’s instilled this idea that it’s important to be in a calorie deficit but also train to build muscle. That’s because the more muscle you have = a higher metabolic weight= more weight loss at rest. So I’ve been focusing on 50-75ish Grams of carbs a day and eating about 1600-1800 cals a day, a walk daily and 40 minutes of weights every other day. Results are slow and I’ve had a few back slides of toast at 2am when I couldn’t sleep (kiddo wakes at 5am every day- it’s literally the best contraceptive ive ever experienced 😂😭) and a big bag of Haribo but overall it’s been manageable

Elakiya · 23/06/2020 18:09

Everyone doing 16:8 what times do you do it?

Welcome @littlejalapeno ! Well done on your 4kg weight loss!

littlejalapeno · 23/06/2020 20:06

Thanks @Elakiya congratulations to you too, that’s a massive achievement.

I know a 94 year old who does 16:8 and swears by it. She does 8am-4pm and says it’s just habit at this point. She does it for the fast but defo doesn’t hold back during the day. I’ve seen her clear a couple of plates at a buffet and take some home for later 😂. I’m a night person though and wake up ravenous so it’s not for me. If I can get 11-12 hours between breakfast and dinner it’s a win. How are you finding it?

Elakiya · 23/06/2020 20:22

@littlejalapeno I’ve lost weight with it before but now due to exams I am really struggling to get into the habit of it. If I could do it for a week straight I know I can stick to it after that but I am caving at like day 2-3 😞

littlejalapeno · 23/06/2020 20:41

I get that it’s really hard to do under normal circumstances let alone when you’re under stress! The instructor on the postpartum course would say that you’re not getting enough calories so your body is compensating by encouraging a binge! Maybe try upping your protein and doing it every other day for a couple of weeks to ramp up slowly? I could massacre a bowl of icecream now but instead am reaching for a virtuous iced water. It’s definitely not the best of situations 😂 good luck with your exams

Elakiya · 23/06/2020 21:49

@littlejalapeno you were recommended IF on your postpartum course? I think I need to be more strict then sometimes I just manage to convince myself it’s unhealthy and unsustainable. 😅

Rumtopf · 23/06/2020 22:23

I IF too, and tend to just have a black coffee in the morning, plenty of lemon water and then have something to eat at 1pm. I have dinner at 6pm ish and then a snack/treat at 9. So 16:8 overall. Most days it's no problem at all, let's see how I can carry on if this round of IVF has worked.

@poptypingchef I'm sorry to read your call wasn't great. So frustrating for you. Is there any chance you can investigate a private clinic near you?

poptypingchef · 24/06/2020 01:02

Yeah @Rumtopf it’s a possibility so we’ll look into it. She said that she was still confident we had a chance of conceiving naturally as there was no reason we hadn’t and hopefully the weight loss might help.

Rumtopf · 24/06/2020 08:13

@poptypingchef we have unexplained infertility too, the only thing the clinic did notice was that my vit D and iron levels were exceptionally low so we took a month to get those back up. Vit D plays a huge role which I wasn't aware of before.

Losing weight will help if it comes to IVF, I'm right at the top of the allowed weight and the cocktail of drugs I'm on is a bit mind boggling.

Elakiya · 24/06/2020 21:33

@poptypingchef I'm really sorry about the NHS waiting list, at least there is a positive in that they think you should be able to conceive naturally. Fingers crossed for you.

@Rumtopf Hopefully with the weight loss you won't have to do IVF. Fingers crossed for you too.

I didn't know about the Iron and Vit D. I'll start taking those.

Sunstar16 · 24/06/2020 22:05

@poptypingchef I'm sorry you were disappointed with the call. Don't give up hope xx

@Rumtopf Maybe sorting out vit D and iron will make all the difference for you.

Rumtopf · 24/06/2020 23:03

Let's hope so. I'm currently 4 days post transfer of our one and only embryo from our first IVF cycle! I certainly feel better in myself than I have in ages. Although I did have a cheeky chicken kebab for dinner tonight the rest of the day was really good, and even the kebab isn't really that bad.

poptypingchef · 30/06/2020 10:23

How is everyone getting on?

Still hovering on this plateau but at least I am not gaining. Would love to shift 1 more stone

Elakiya · 01/07/2020 21:31

@poptypingchef Plateaus are the worst. Maybe do something slightly different to see if you can get off the plateau?

I’ve religiously been doing IF 8-4 for a week now and have lost 1.5kg so fingers crossed it stays this way.

poptypingchef · 01/07/2020 22:19

Well I weighed in this morning and I’ve dropped 2lbs so we’ll see how I fair. Would be nice if this is the start of the final stretch.

Had porridge, SW BBQ pasta (leftovers) and a half portion of pinch of nom chicken ham and leek pie with veg.

Need to drink more water!

Elakiya · 03/07/2020 08:30

@poptypingchef well done on the 2lb loss every bit helps. I went the opposite and gained about 3kg in quarantine so trying to lose that first.

How far are you from your healthy weight?

Drink about 2-3 litres of water. I try to have a 500ml bottle every 3 hours.

poptypingchef · 03/07/2020 09:19

@Elakiya I’ve lost just over 3 stone altogether and I’d like to take it down another 1/2-1 stone ideally.

I’ve signed up to the DiabetesUK 1million steps challenge which runs 1st July - end sept. 92 days with an average of nearly 11k steps a day.

Elakiya · 04/07/2020 21:27

@poptypingchef that’s amazing and you don’t even have far to go. I have another 2 stone :( seems like miles away.

The weather has been so bad I don’t know whether I’d have the motivation to do 11k steps lol. But good on you! Keep going!

poptypingchef · 04/07/2020 23:41

Thanks @Elakiya I have a few routes round my area that are mostly tree covered im sucking it up for now 😂😂😂.

You will get there, I remember when I started it was the heaviest I’d been and that the only way to get there was to commit to gradually working it off. When lockdown happened I was worried that without my gym teachers I would lose focus so made a concerted effort to do all I could not to slip. Is been hard as DH is in the house and loves biscuits 😂😂😂

Elakiya · 05/07/2020 04:05

@poptypingchef You’re giving me motivation to keep going! I’ve been doing YouTube workout videos. Have you tried the Chloe ting 2 week challenge? I haven’t gotten abs from it but it is a real workout 🏋️‍♀️
