Waiting for first natural AF since coming off the pill

Hi all

Hopefully there is someone else is in the same boat as me! I came off the pill (Cilest) in January and my withdrawal bleed started on 19th Jan. I'm now on CD 30 and (not very!) patiently waiting for AF to start so that I can start properly tracking for cycle no.2! I'm hoping there are a few people out there who want to join me on this journey :)

I keep getting cramps one day and then nothing the next so who knows what is going on down there!

Hi!

Very new to Mumsnet so first post!

I have just come off cerelle 3 days ago and ttc.

With my son, I was on the pill and came on straight away and then fell pregnant 6 weeks after coming off contraception.

Now that I've come off the mini pill I'm worried it's going to take longer. Was expecting a period straight away but it can take longer with the mini pill :(

lilcl95 · 17/02/2020 18:20

I came off cerelle (same as cilest) on 7th December. Got a withdrawal bleed a few days later. I had cramps for ages, had every symptom you can think of and about 3 separate occasions I thought I was gonna come on. I didn't get a proper period until 19th January. I've read a few different experiences, one person I spoke to didn't get a period for 5 months!

LuluHeidi · 18/02/2020 08:44

Hi @Mumnttc and @lilcl95!

It seems like everyone has very different experiences then. I'm currently experiencing the same as you did @lilcl95. At least twice I've been convinced it's about to start and then the last few days no sign and no symptoms of it arriving either. I've had sore boobs and spots on my forehead the past week. Neither of which I experienced on the pill! But yeah the cramps come and go and had none yesterday. It looks like I could be in for a long wait! I kind of wish I'd used OPKs to track my ovulation now but I didn't want to do that until after my first natural period. I've not a clue when I might have or might still ovulate at the moment.

@Mumnttc did you have a natural period in those 6 weeks before falling pregnant? I'm sure you'll be just as lucky this time :)

Hi @LuluHeidi!

When conceiving last time I had a withdrawal bleed straight away (as it was like my 1 week break on the normal pill) and then I had 4 weeks and then a period and then literally fell pregnant soon after.

This time, where I was on the mini pill, I can't remember the last time I had a period. It was well over a year ago!

I'm just worried it will take a while. I've bought ovulation sticks which I will use every 3 days to see if I am ovulating without having a period as apparently that can happen too!

Katbaby · 18/02/2020 13:17

Hi,

Currently on cd60!! After coming off yasmin pull had withdrawal bleed finished Christmas day and not a even a sniff of a sign of af showing her ugly face.

Waiting very impatiently 😩😩 6 bfn later😣

LuluHeidi · 18/02/2020 14:28

@Mumnttc I'm sure it won't be too long :) ovulation sticks will definitely help you keep an eye. Is there a time of day that's best to use them? And are you best to do two a day to make sure you catch it? When did you first come off the mini pill?

@Katbaby AF will definitely arrive and hopefully soon, fingers crossed! 60 days is a long time but it seems that is very normal coming off the pill. You'll never have been so happy to see AF arrive when it does haha. I'll be exactly the same. I think this wait is worse than the TWW seems because it's a bit never ending and could be more like a 3 month wait than 2 weeks!

I took an ovulation test today as had some CM and thought I might start tracking now as don't know when AF is going to come... but it was negative. The wait continues haha

OP posts:
Katbaby · 18/02/2020 15:17

@LuluHeidi either af or even better a bfp lol! I've not noticed really any cm.. Unless I'm meant to go looking for it... Haha. Hoping Ive ovulate late and that there's still chance.

It's not over til she shows 🤣

LuluHeidi · 18/02/2020 15:51

@Katbaby haha yes or that! We could have ovulated at any moment really. If there does end up being another cycle for both of us then we will at least have more of an idea :) but you never know...miracles can happen!

Katbaby · 18/02/2020 16:08

@LuluHeidi yes Im just gonna text every 10 days or so until af shows up that's what my doctor suggested, unless I get a more conclusive answer from my blood test next week.

Fingers crossed for both of us, keep us updated and I'll do the same!

Katbaby · 18/02/2020 16:09

Test not text. Autocorrect😣

1987Nic · 18/02/2020 16:23

I came off the mini pill on December 19th, my withdrawal bleed was 28 days later on January 16th and my first period started 32 days later February 17th.

Mumnttc · 18/02/2020 17:30

I came off the mini pill on Saturday (15th) so very early days. At work today I thought I had cramps and thought I'd come on, but hadn't :( not sure when is best to test for ovulation (morning or evening?)

1987Nic · 18/02/2020 17:40

I’ve just bought the clear blue ovulation tests and have been reading up about them today. They advise to test the first urine after longest sleep.

LuluHeidi · 03/03/2020 11:32

Just an update to say that I'm still waiting for AF! Currently on CD 45. After having a bad hormonal breakout since coming off the pill I have been taking DHA (Omega 3), probiotics and the Boots conception tablets to try and balance my hormones and it seems to be helping as my skin looks much clearer. I'm taking one pregnancy test a week just to make sure I'm not pregnant although definitely don't feel it!

How is everyone else getting on?

Mumnttc · 03/03/2020 14:44

Hi @LuluHeidi I'm on day 16 and it feels like forever 😂 I'm going to do a PT on day 28 as I think I was ovulating last week. I don't think I'm pregnant though. Just holding out for AF!

Katbaby · 03/03/2020 17:04

Hi! I am still waiting, cd74 😩😩 bloods from Thursday came back normal and negative for pregnancy

Back to the gp tomorrow!!

hollywhooo · 03/03/2020 17:41

Hope i’m okay to jump in!
I came off the pill April 2019, withdrawal bleed in May then no period til December!!!!
My last cycle was 47 days and I’m now on day 19 again, no sign of ovulation so think it’ll be a long one again. Sooooooo frustrating!!!!!

Elsiebear90 · 03/03/2020 17:43

I was on the pill (dianette) for 8 years and it took me almost 12 months to have a proper period after stopping it, I think I’m a rare case though! I wasn’t TTC at the time, so I have no idea if I was ovulating or fertile during that time.

Annajay12 · 03/03/2020 18:30

@LuluHeid Iwas on the pill for about 13 years. My cycles after stopping pill was 45 days, 70 days, currently 3rd cycle and on CD28.
Ovulated on CD20 so although it can take a while to settle I finally have hope that my body is back to normal. Just takes a bit of time and everyone is different so dont stress yourself out too much x

mrs04 · 03/03/2020 19:36

I came off my contraception pill in july, had a withdrawal period and nothing since. Went to doctors in December for some test and everything came back normal along with negative pregnancy tests.
I took a test last week and its come back positive but I'm really anxious if everything will be OK with out a natural period before conceiving. I have no idea how far I am. Has anyone been in this situation?

LuluHeidi · 13/03/2020 13:05

@mrs04 Congratulations, that's amazing news! I definitely wouldn't worry about that :) I think the only tricky thing is working out when your due date would be! How's everything going?

Thanks for the advice about not stressing out from everyone! I had been tracking my temperature on Natural Cycles and it predicted that I ovulated on 29 Feb which must have been correct because my first natural period started today, 13 days later! Finally! It ended up being a 54 day cycle. So I suppose this will be my first cycle trying which is exciting.

How is everyone one else getting on? Any updates?

CoalCraft · 13/03/2020 13:38

@luluheidi

Hooray, glad your period finally showed up! I just came off the combined pill last week so am now in that impatient wait for cycle to recover stage lol

Good luck this cycle!

LuluHeidi · 22/04/2020 10:38

How's everyone getting on?

Anymore positive stories from anyone about long cycles sorting themselves out and regulating?!

I'm currently on CD 41 of my second cycle after coming off the pill and don't seem to have ovulated yet! I track my BBT so would know if I'd have ovulated. I've had really sore boobs for a week so maybe that's a sign of my hormones kicking in again haha.

I hope everyone is well :)

Hey ladies!

I came off the pill in June last year and had the tiniest, lightest period ever in January so took 7 months for the first one to arrive! And haven't had anything else since then, so frustrating.

One idea though... I started taking multivitamins a couple of weeks ago and then ovulated a couple of days ago so I think it might be doing the trick to kick-start my cycle again!! Fingers crossed. Might be worth taking some vitamins if you're in the same boat!

Katbaby · 22/04/2020 12:50

Hi! Realised I never updated. I got to CD 119 with serious Pms symptoms, period still didn't come and i tested and got my first BFP on CD120!! 😬🤞 So I must have finally ovulated around CD110 ish.

So it can happen keep BDing in case the egg finally shows up! So I've technically managed to conceive first cycle. Even if it was nearly a 4 month cycle.
