I’m having a difficult time with my cycles since coming off the pill in August. They have been longer than 35 days and I’m currently waiting for this month’s to arrive (I’m on day 38) 😔 it’s making trying for a baby really difficult. They have never been this long before. I have very oily skin and acne all on my back which again, I’ve never had before. Could I have developed PCOS whilst on the pill? Please share your stories and successes.

@Firecracker2019 ah wow, it’s a good thing you pushed for further tests! Do you mind me asking how the rest of your TTC journey went? X

@other89 no positive news from me! Last cycle ended up being 39 days, I have started taking 2000mg of myo inositol so I’m going to see if that has any impact this month before going to the docs xxx

My update... (diagnosed with PCOS at 16, currently 34)

14 months post pill and three scans and numerous blood tests later I have 'mild' PCOS now. But they've referred me to the fertility team. I've been taking myo-inositol for about ten months, and my last two periods have been 37 and 40 days. This appears to be my average now. I had a 87 days cycle September to December but had a few 37/40 day cycles before. 😒😒😒 mild... 😳🥊

other89 · 09/03/2020 19:56

@AlohaMolly I think that can happen after people have had children, it sort of resets your periods/hormones.

@swirls3468 I've had 'spotting' for the last couple of days. Not enough for a tampon or a pad and mainly just there when I wipe. I'm not sure if i can count it as a period because it's not like any period i've had. Its day 94 of my cycle otherwise.
I've got an appointment with the fertility clinic as it's coming up to a year which is in early April. I did have some bloods done by the Dr but because I've not had a period he said it's very hard for the results to show anything because we can't be certain which part of my cycle we are on.

@Firecracker2019 I've had a few tests but they don't know where about in my cycle I am so just waiting to see.

It's just the waiting now that annoying. Hopefully I'll be able to get my cycles on track so I can give this conceiving a proper go!!

Hi
How is everyone getting on with ttc?

Grace2296 · 26/05/2020 07:23

@swirls3468 no luck for me! My last cycle ended up being around 71 days and I am waiting until I am able to get back to my doctors to be referred for a scan. We have just had a puppy so we are focussing on her right now 😊 how about you? X

I never had regular periods, and as soon as they started I began piling on the weight despite being very active. I also developed hair on my upper lip, though I was lucky to keep relatively good skin. I was brushed off my doctors in my late teens and early twenties de the period issue, and told to lose weight. Did SW and WW religiously and gained weight each time!

In my late twenties we began TTC to obviously no success. I was lucky to be able to go private, and the consultant diagnosed me then and there, which as confirmed by scans a few days later. Said I was a classic case. Was advised to try low carb high fat diet and metformin and clomid to conceive. I lost a stone in a month, and periods returned but no conception.

Had IVF, worked first time and now have a lively 18 month old! We were just about to have one of our frozen embryos transferred just before lockdown, so are eagerly waiting for things to get going again now.

I don’t know if that’s much help, but it was going private that did it for me.

@Grace2296 Hi Grace! Sorry to hear no luck, I'm in the same situation and it will be a year in August. I had no period so had to get a tablet from the dr to induce one and make me have one!! Otherwise I think I still wouldn't have had one. I've actually got a scan tomorrow and they've referred me to endocrine/fertility. My last referral got cancelled cus of covid and they completely discharged me! So asked to go to a different hospital. I thought I'd get the ball rolling with this clinic because probably gonna be months before I get an appointment because of the backlog due to covid.
What kind of puppy have you got??
How's everyone coping with lockdown ?

WindsorBlues · 26/05/2020 08:47

Came off contraception and didn't have a period for a year so was referred to a clinic where I had an internal scan on my ovaries which showed PCOS.

I had my first period at 16 and as soon as it came I was rushed down to the GP and put on contraception (injection for three years then the inplanon for seven) So I never had a chance to see what my normal cycle was because the contraceptives causes some bleeding that I assumed was a period.

In hindsight if they hadn't of put me on contraception as soon as possible I would have found out about the PCOS sooner and likely would have started trying for a baby with DH sooner knowing I'd have difficulties but I don't blame DM I was a complete wildchild back then drink, drugs & random sex and I wouldn't have been able to cope with a baby so I think they done the right thing.

Grace2296 · 26/05/2020 09:01

@swirls3468 that’s great to hear you have got your scan sorted! Did you go private? I wasn’t sure if routines scans would be going ahead yet but I might give me doctors a call back now that you have said this! Hope it all goes well tomorrow! We have had a cockapoo, she’s delightful! Lockdown is just making the wait feel longer! 😂

@Grace2296 Nooo not private, I rang the gp but I was having a bit of pains down there as well so I mentioned that which was included in the referral and that was about 3 weeks ago and my appointment is tomorrow. They are still doing appointments for routine things but just prioritising. And the number of referrals has probably actually decreased because no one is going to the dr!! But there are other issues other than covid. I just wanted to get it sorted really before it's too late because I really want children.
Deffo call gp and ask for one if you feel like it's what you need, sometimes you have to ring knowing what you want. I found a better gp than my own though, a female gp and she seems so much more understanding than my actual gp.
I'm a nurse so at least I can go to work whilst the lockdown is occurring!!

Grace2296 · 26/05/2020 11:11

@swirls3468 really pleased to hear that you’re getting somewhere! I will give gp a call to see if there’s any chance of a referral! Keep in touch! 😊 x

I was diagnosed at 19 with a scan but was told not to worry about it until I wanted to conceive. I came off the pill in Feb and I’m still waiting for a period (CD 97 today) and I feel frustrated as OH and I decided we wanted to be casual and breezy about TTC, but as times gone on I’m getting more worried, not knowing if it’s the pcos or something else causing it. I rang my GP who referred me for a scan although I’ve no idea how long that will take to come through. I had blood tests last week to check hormones, thyroid etc last week so I’m awaiting those results. So definitely call your GP and ask for these things.

Grace2296 · 26/05/2020 12:58

@xemmagx Hi! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble! I had bloods done around 6 weeks ago and was told my LH was higher than normal but I’ve no idea what that suggests! The next step is a scan which I was told to phone back to arrange. The wait is horrible isn’t it, fingers crossed you get answers soon x
