How did you get diagnosed with PCOS??

I’m having a difficult time with my cycles since coming off the pill in August. They have been longer than 35 days and I’m currently waiting for this month’s to arrive (I’m on day 38) 😔 it’s making trying for a baby really difficult. They have never been this long before. I have very oily skin and acne all on my back which again, I’ve never had before. Could I have developed PCOS whilst on the pill? Please share your stories and successes.

@swirls3468 Your situation is very similar to mine, I'm worried this last cycle is just that my periods have stopped too. I'm on cycle 74. I feel like the hormones from the pill have ran out and my body is not ovulating. If that makes sense. I'm 30, nearly 31 so it's a bit more time precious for me. I'm going the doctors on thursday to get my bloods done so hopefully that will help.

Mycrazylife85 · 18/02/2020 22:14

I was16 with awful acne and hairy arms and legs and hair loss on my scalp. Blood tests then scans, abdominal and transvaginal confirmed it and went on the pill. I vaguely remember my pre-pill periods being about 35-38 days cycles. Came off the pill at 33 in January 2019. Completely screwed cycles ranging from 37-89. Had to go back through scans and blood tests again. Like it's vanished 🤷🏻‍♀️ my bloods look okay but the LH hormone and the other they measure are more than double, indicating PCOS and my last but one more recent showed cysts, although after a period 6 weeks later the last scan was 'normal', but I'm back on a long cycles again. I temp so have a great comparison of month with a short cycle and this month (which is up and down with peaks like a massive Toblerone). Doctors tomorrow armed with my SH sperm analysis which is thankfully good all being well for referral

Mycrazylife85 · 18/02/2020 22:15

I have been using 4g of myo-inositol since last summer too

Diamond94 · 18/02/2020 22:16

Hi 👋🏼
Could i join please
I am im the same boat! CD74! Stopped the pill end of october, had withdrawal bleed 4 weeks later and nothing since... i had my bloods done 2 weeks ago but iv to get them retested on thursday to see if there is any changes!.. think i will give inositol a go after my bloods are done! I just want AF to appear 🙄

Diamond94 · 18/02/2020 22:19

@Mycrazylife85 do you have other examples of your BBT chart? I started charting this month too

Mycrazylife85 · 18/02/2020 22:34

Sure @Diamond94 this is the example of my 'good month' I started temping later. This was my one and only 37 day cycle..
I'm glad you're temping. I'm getting used to it but think it'll be worth doing in the long run

How did you get diagnosed with PCOS??
swirls3468 · 18/02/2020 22:40

@Grace2296 yes I'd go doctors if I were you just to just get some bloods etc and they'll prob send you for an ultrasound. How long was your last cycle? In terms of symptoms I had bad skin last year but that's when I was actually on the pill, I saw a dermatologist and went on quite aggressive medication and my skins fine now and has remained fine , it's a bit oily but nothing terrible. I don't really get lots of hair growth or anything like that but I've noticed my leg hair is thicker when off the pill. I do crave carbs a lot too so have to be careful what I eat. Can put on weight quite easily although I'd say I'm healthy size 12. What are your symptoms? Xxx

swirls3468 · 18/02/2020 22:43

@other89 Hi! Yes our situation sounds very similar! It's so annoying isn't it, I actually want to see my period to know I'm normal. Keep getting cramps and thinking it's coming and then nothing .. you are only young yourself so don't worry too much but at least we are aware of our bodies! Have you been diagnosed with pcos?

Grace2296 · 18/02/2020 22:51

@swirls3468 my last cycle was 37 and I’m currently on day 38 with no sign of AF arriving! I have very bad spots on my back, sore and aggressive and oily skin on my face. I’m hoping to get started on the myo inositol 🤞🏼 Xxx

What is your weight/exercise regime like? If your not getting many symptoms of PCOS then look up hypothalamic amenorreah just incase that sounds more likely to you

OrangeJ · 20/02/2020 07:26

Hi everyone. This is the first thread I’ve read that I feel I can actually relate to.

I’m 30 and have PCOS. Hubby and I have finally decided it’s time to TTC. We wanted it to be relaxed so have just been “not not trying” since December. I’ve had one period since then at the beginning of Feb and am on CD18. My cycles range hugely from 32 - 104!

I’ve read great things about myo-inositol as well and ordered some the other day. Would anyone go to the GP to ask about taking it? I know these things say consult with you GP, but when I first went to mine asking for tests for PCOS she made me feel as though I was wasting her time and just told me “it’s very common and if you do have it there’s nothing you can do about it”. Really upset me as I never go the flipping doctor for anything!

other89 · 20/02/2020 10:41

@Diamond94 cycle day 76 and still no sign. I have been feeling a bit sick but I that's more to do with my period trying to start and never quite managing to.

@primarywoodle I don't think that my diet / exercise is anything to do with it because I've always been active 3/4 days a week and my diet is enough to keep my weight stable, but we'll see from when I get my bloods back.

@OrangeJ you'll have to let us know if you think that the myo-insitol does anything to help.

Hopefully we will have some success stories here and that it won't take us too long :)

Grace2296 · 20/02/2020 18:10

Does anyone on here know ifI can take the myo inositol without consulting my doctor? Want to give it a go before I officially admit defeat 😂 x

My period took almost a year to go back to normal after coming off the pill... went to the doctors and everything I also thought I had PCOS had the 21 day test and everything was fine... my cycles were awful they ranged from 30-50 days the first year after coming off it... the doctor said it can take a while for everything to settle and for your normal cycles to return... I then had my norm which is 28-30 days...I know how stressful it can be they never tell you the part about your periods taking ages to return after the pill that's why after my first child I never went back on the pill for longer then 2 months... I'm sure you'll have your baby very soon!! Xx

swirls3468 · 20/02/2020 20:40

Hi guys!
Noticed a lot of talk about myo inositol. I did a bit of research on it and ordered myself some about 3 weeks ago and have been on it ever since. I don't see any difference and still haven't had a period, however, it's early days and I've had no bad symptoms from it! So I'll continue to take it. I'm also taking some also supps to. In regard to the gp they prob can't recommend to take something that's not prescribed so wasting your time going. It's only a food supplement so unless you are on any other meds that could possibly interact I'd say it's safe to take. I took my first lot in the morning so if I did have any side effects it would be in the day time and not through the night.
So glad I've finally found a post I can relate to though girls!!!
Xxx

OrangeJ · 20/02/2020 21:35

@swirls3468 that’s really helpful info thank you. I won’t bother my gp then Smile
I’ve read it can take a few months for it to work🤞but I do get impatient and have a tendency to stop doing things when I don’t see results quickly. Must remember to stick with it!

swirls3468 · 20/02/2020 21:52

@OrangeJ yes I've read it can take months too so will stick with it. Deffo let me know how you get on??
I'm very impatient too! I've been off the pill since August and got really obsessive to begin with and now I've just thought f*ck it, it will happen when it's right. I'd like to be pregnant by the end of the year but we will see what happens eh.
Have you tried a pre natal vitamin? I've heard they can really help too as improve egg quality. I'm also taking some vitamin D as most people who live in England are deficient anyway so useful to throw it in.
I've got a bit of a pharmacy going on from my bedside drawer lol 😃

Grace2296 · 21/02/2020 00:25

@swirls3468 so glad we can discuss this on this thread. I think the next step for me will be trying the myo inositol to see if it regulates my period.

@MoStew18 thank you for replying, I think I need some patience for a few more months 🤣

Xx

@minipie have you actually had the hormone tests for pcos? You might not actually have it. Hypothyroidism can cause your ovaries to be multicystic (ie have lots of cysts) but that is not the same thing as having the syndrome. To have PCOS you need 2/3 of cysts/hormones/physical symptoms. Most people with hypothyroidism just have the cysts. If your cycles were regular then unlikely you’ve got it. Just FYI!

minipie · 21/02/2020 09:32

HarrietM87 that’s interesting. My hormone tests went missing 🙄 so I’m not sure what they said. My cycles were a little bit irregular and long (31-34 days ish) but nothing major. Definitely had/still have acne though.

other89 · 04/03/2020 20:26

Just catching up with everyone. I'm cycle day 90 so have missed 3 full periods, which is just so frustrating when trying to conceive. I'm booked into the fertility clinic for the beginning of April so hopefully will get some answers!! Anyone got any more positive news?
@Grace2296 @AlohaMolly @SisterAgatha @EastMidsMumOf1 @namechangepls5 @minipie @tiddlerthefish @Hatepickinganame

AlohaMolly · 04/03/2020 21:25

Sorry, I forgot I posted here!!

I actually never struggled to get pregnant, but I did struggle to stay pregnant. I had 3mcs before I had DS, but like someone upthread, those three mcs were with a different partner. DS was also conceived while I was on the pill BlushBlush

Interestingly, my periods have been pretty much fine since having him and he’s nearly four. The last six months have been a slow fall back in to what I remember from my early 20s - the hair!! My beard hair grows overnight and my moustache is just so quick to grow back Sad and this cycle has been 45 days.

The doctor did some blood tests (not sure for what though?) and said they came back fine but has referred me for a scan.

swirls3468 · 05/03/2020 12:07

@other89 Hi your situation sounds similar to mine, not had a period since the start of December ! Driving me mad now. Keep thinking I'm coming on but it doesn't come..
What process did you go through to be referred to fertility clinic? Is it ttc for a year?
I have been referred to gynae xxx

Firecracker2019 · 05/03/2020 12:14

The pill can mask the development of PCOS and in my case I believe it did.
I was TTC with no success for a year and went to GP who did bloods first which seemed normal but I pushed for more and was sent for an internal scan where the ovaries were found to be polycystic and a couple of polyps were found too.
I apparently have ovulatory polycystic ovaries as opposed to the full syndrome as hormone levels were normal.

Firecracker2019 · 05/03/2020 12:15

Should add that after stopping the Pill and TTC my cycles varied wildly for that first year from 25 days to 43!
