Dry January

Anyone else doing dry January this month? I could do with some motivation and comradery! I'm on CD2 of cycle 2 ttc #1. Last month was our first try, but tbh it was always going to be a bit unlikely as my TWW fell right over Christmas and NY, and I fully enjoyed myself and ate and drank a LOT 😂 This month I'm doing dry January, both for my general health and also to possibly improve my chances of conceiving this month. I'm not a midweek drinker, but I have a feeling Friday and Saturday nights will be tricky once I'm back at work! Anyone want to join me on this thread for a bit of support?

Thanks for the advice @bluemoon2468. Can you recommend any temp thermometers?

bluemoon2468 · 17/01/2020 18:03

I use natural cycles and they sent me mine when I signed up, so I don't really know about any others. You just have to make sure that it's sensitive to two decimal places.

@bluemoon2468 @Newbie0818
No, no positive OPKs here yet - I think I might give up this cycle! CD20 🙄

I might try temping if I get nothing again this month. I just have quite a busy morning routine and think I will forget. I am a bit worried that I'm just not ovulating as really don't have any clear signs. I am fairly body aware so don't think I'm missing things.

I'm looking forward to testing this month and am feeling a bit more pragmatic about it all. I've had tender boobs the last few days and feel rather bloated. Same as prior to AF really so who knows! 🤷‍♀️

I nearly caved on a glass of red this evening...chaotic day at work! Feeling chuffed for holding strong 😂

bluemoon2468 · 17/01/2020 20:41

@MGee123 well done!! This weekend will be hard because I have a few meals out planned but holding strong 💪🏻

I know exactly how you feel @MGee123 feels like such a let down doesn’t it. Fingers crossed anyhow, and well done for not giving in to temptation!

Newbie0818 · 21/01/2020 17:09

I just got a positive opk! I’m on CD25 - whaaaaat! Am I a late ovulater? Is this cycle going to be longer? Am I pregnant?

bluemoon2468 · 21/01/2020 17:39

@Newbie0818 I have no idea how you've had the self restraint to not take a PT immediately 🙈

An update from me - I'm somewhere between 5-7DPO - app says 5 or 6 (needs more deta to decide) but I've shown some other ladies and they think I maybe ovulated even earlier, making me 7 🤷‍♀️

Had a big .5 dip in temp yesterday (4-6DPO) then temp right back up to above my cover line today. Yesterday was having lots of cramps, exactly like period pains, then had a few this morning but everything's stopped now. I have no idea what to think - Google tells me that most likely it's a secondary estrogen surge? Probably too early for an implantation dip. Currently fighting every urge in my body to test even though I know it's way too early and would be negative!

Still alcohol free, and have been completely caffeine free for just over a week as well.

How is everyone else doing? Any symptoms or PTs taken?

@bluemoon2468 do you think I should? I don’t actually have any at home 😱 I really don’t want to get my hopes up 😱 I’ve had cramps for the last 3 days and lots of cm (tmi sorry!), but just assumed af might be on the way or another lot of hormones. I’m going to do another opk in an hour and see what happens, then continue to do them for the next couple of days.

No idea about bbt dips etc but that all sounds quite promising! I agree though, wait it out as very early. Well done for staying dry ☺️

bluemoon2468 · 21/01/2020 18:00

@Newbie0818 how many DPO are you? The sensible advice is probably to wait. But if it was me I would test 😆 I have absolutely zero patience!

OP posts:
bluemoon2468 · 21/01/2020 18:03

@Newbie0818 but if you do decide to test, do it tomorrow morning with FMU, not tonight!

OP posts:
Newbie0818 · 21/01/2020 19:05

@bluemoon2468 that’s the thing, I have no idea! I haven’t had a positive opk before this afternoon so I assumed I hadn’t ovulated. The darkest line was on CD13 but still nowhere near the control line. I’m now mentally going insane haha! I asked hubby to get me a PT but he said we should wait, so I’m going to keep taking an opk each day and if it stays dark I’ll get a PT. this is torture!

bluemoon2468 · 21/01/2020 19:38

DTD tonight if poss, just to cover your bases!

OP posts:
MGee123 · 21/01/2020 22:18

How random @Newbie0818 ! I'm inclined to think it's worth a pregnancy test in the morning 🤷‍♀️ definitely also worth DTD?!

AF arrived for me today, so roll on cycle 6 😔 24 day cycle this month so not really sure what is going on. Hey ho, onwards at upwards! I'm going to break dry January and enjoy a few glasses of red until the beginning of next week 😂

bluemoon2468 · 21/01/2020 22:24

@MGee123 so sorry to hear that! But yes you definitely deserve a drink or two!

OP posts:
Newbie0818 · 22/01/2020 06:47

Sorry to hear that @MGee123 :( head up and keep at it though.

I did another opk just now and the line was even stronger. I’m going to hold out a hpt for a few days as if the line gets lighter on the opk’s I can just assume a late ov (been DTD everyday anyway!), or af might be on the way . We shall see!

MGee123 · 22/01/2020 20:11

Thanks @Newbie0818 😊 absolutely - onwards and upwards! Keeping positive and trying not to feel disheartened.

Fingers crossed you get a clear response with the OPKs one way or another 👍

MGee123 · 22/01/2020 20:12

Thanks @bluemoon2468 - red wine in hand!

Newbie0818 · 23/01/2020 20:25

Update: did an opk today and it was negative again, so I’m pretty sure I ovulated over the course of yesterday and this morning as I had such terrible cramps! They’re gone now, but I’ve had these before. Just really hoping my luteal phase isn’t too short :/ guess I’m in my two week/ unknown length wait?

bluemoon2468 · 24/01/2020 17:04

I guess I'll be staying dry a while longer...

Woohoo congrats @bluemoon2468! So pleased for you - glad dry January was worth it for at least one of us!! Do keep us updated 😊

bluemoon2468 · 24/01/2020 19:56

@MGee123 thank you! Still 6 days out from AF according to Natural Cycles so still all a bit uncertain until then. Will let you know how to goes! Good luck to everyone who hasn't tested yet!
