Nexplanon/Implanon removal - experiences afterwards?

Hello Smile

I had my implant out yesterday after being on it for just over 5 years. Plan is to TTC #1 but absolutely in no rush and not putting any pressure on ourselves.

I'm interested to hear about people's experiences after removal in terms of period/consistent cycle return? I've read all the threads on here but I'm confused that everybody is told different things by their nurse/doctor. Mine told me yesterday to expect a first period in 6 weeks. (I haven't had any periods at all in 5yrs whilst the implant was in).

Thank you all in advance!

I had my implant out 25th September (2 weeks 2 days ago) I had what I can only imagine was a withdrawal bleed on 28th & 29th September. I then had spotting, (potentially) EWCM & cramps exactly 1 week after removal for 2 days. I have since been having severe cramps the last 3 days (exactly 2 weeks after removal).

God knows what is going on!

CannonCaboodle · 11/10/2019 16:55

Eh? Thought these implant things only lasted 3 years?

CooperLooper · 11/10/2019 18:47

@blackpinkinyourarea ooo thank you! Any sign of AF?

@ceejla gosh that does sound weird, I hope your cramping stops soon. Did you have regular bleeds whilst on the implant?

@CannonCaboodle they do need changing every 3 yrs, but you get one taken out and a new one put in at the same time if you want to continue using birth control...

I had my implant taken out in mid May, had a period two weeks or so later, found out in July I was pregnant and that happened for both pregnancies with my dd’s.

CooperLooper · 11/10/2019 18:56

@Kraggle that would be a dream to have it happen so quickly like it did for you :)

When I had mine removed I was pregnant within 6 weeks and only a small withdrawal bleed after I had it out! We thought it would take a few months as that is what they advised so was shocked it happened so quick tho my husband claims it's his 'super spunk' Hmmlol

Kraggle · 11/10/2019 19:10

@Nottsangel2015 my Dh was also pretty pleased with his superior sperm!

CooperLooper · 11/10/2019 19:34

@Nottsangel2015 honestly what are men like

Nottsangel2015 · 11/10/2019 19:51

Lol 😂 @Kraggle

@CooperLooper they are a strange bunch! Hopefully your dp is in the 'super spunk' club 😂😂

georgiexo · 11/10/2019 21:38

@CooperLooper I had mine out in February and no blood whatsoever. Been put on provera today to try and induce a period so I can ovulate :(

CooperLooper · 11/10/2019 22:47

@Nottsangel2015 I hope so too, not that he needs an ego boost as it is Grin

@georgiexo I'm so sorry to hear that, have the doctors said what might be the reason why? Was it Nexplanon you were on too?

OP posts:
georgiexo · 11/10/2019 22:52

@CooperLooper nope they have no reason at all maybe just being on contraception for so long, who knows. Yes it was nex although everyone else says they bled not long afterwards so maybe it's me.. we'll soon find out. 10 day course of Provera and the feedback about them have been really good. Praying it helps! Xx

CooperLooper · 12/10/2019 10:21

@georgiexo I've got all my fingers crossed for you that it works :) please do let me know how you get on! X

blackpinkinyourarea · 12/10/2019 11:47

@CooperLooper AF has arrived last night/this morning, so my app was correct which im a bit surprised about as thought this cycle would be longer than 29 days
@georgiexo all my fingers crossed for you too

georgiexo · 12/10/2019 12:22

@blackpinkinyourarea @CooperLooper thanks guys. Makes you feel better on here 😘

ceejla · 12/10/2019 14:18

Okay slightly off topic but because I am already on this thread - anyone else see a line here or am I being too hopeful?! I only had my implant out 17 days ago?! This is an ASDA test but my only concern is was it was verryyyyy slow to reach the control line - if that make sense? Almost like there wasn't enough wee 😂

CooperLooper · 12/10/2019 16:32

@ceejla it's veeeery faint but I can definitely see it. Did it show up within the time frame the instructions say to wait for? If I were you I'd go to a shop and find one of those First Response tests and try again tomorrow morning when you first wake up.

Fingers crossed your line develops into a stronger one, lucky you getting a positive so soon! Please let us know how you get on! X

OP posts:
ceejla · 12/10/2019 17:09

@CooperLooper honestly I didn't read the instructions 😂 it took ages for the wee to even soak up the usual bit. But I could see the faint line within 5-7 mins.

I'm going to try a first response as I don't think the ASDA ones are very sensitive - not holding out! That would be VERYYYY quick!

CooperLooper · 12/10/2019 17:23

@ceejla quick but not impossible!! Can't wait to hear how you get on!

OP posts:
ceejla · 12/10/2019 18:40

@CooperLooper couldn't resist, did a first response and that's a deffo BFN! Ah well, here's to next month! Good luck to you! X

CooperLooper · 12/10/2019 19:07

@ceejla aww I'm sorry 😔 as everyone says on other threads though you're not out til your period arrives. Maybe try again in a couple of days with your first morning wee and see if it's any different x

OP posts:
georgiexo · 12/10/2019 21:08

Sorry @ceejla deeply depressing when you don't get those two lines :( praying for next time for you xx

georgiexo · 12/10/2019 21:08

Thank you @blackpinkinyourarea

Jane0510 · 04/11/2019 13:40

Can I join you please? Smile

I had my implant out on 16th October. It was my third implant in a row and it had already technically expired in August. DH and I aren't actively TTC at the moment although we will in a few months. I just wanted to give myself some time to get my cycle back before we try.

Towards the last six or so months of my three years on each implant I've had light bleeds each month that last for a day or two. The last bleed I had was 5th October.

Since my implant's been removed, the only bleed I had was yesterday (29 days following my last bleed and 18 days following implant removal) and now there's nothing today! Do you think this is my withdrawal bleed or a proper period? Confused

CooperLooper · 04/11/2019 20:32

Hi @Jane0510 😊 I'm honestly not sure sorry. I never had a withdrawal bleed after having mine out on 5th Oct. in fact it was actually only yesterday when I ovulated for the first time, so I think everybody is different and it's hard to say!
