Hey everyone!

Starting this thread as I'm on cycle 2. TTC 1st time and I know many others have been sharing their experiences too.

Would love to keep this thread open for anyone to share tips on conceiving from vitamins to take, foods to eat, things to look out for etc... any strategies/ideas are welcome!
My first question: what are your thoughts on Pregnacare'?

Thanks all Smile

I have read great reviews on Seven Seas Trying For A Baby tablets, so purchased them today.

Anyone else had these? Comments on these would be appreciated 👍😁

I thought everyone would have seen the cervix during orgasm? It dips so essentially sucking up the sperm, that’s why a good orgasm is recommended AFTER he’s ejaculated, for optimum fertilisation. We were shown that in school in biology🤷🏻‍♀️.

We caught the first time of trying, drunken romp after a wedding. So the ‘relaxed’ part probably contributed. Dc1 was a surprise and I was on contraception. I then fell pregnant again shortly after dc was born, within weeks. I then had 4 miscarriages whilst on the pill. According to the doctors I’m highly fertile (if that actually exists).

But I read an article recently, I can’t remember who it was by though so can’t validate it. But it talked about how some couples were more fertile together, than if they were with a different partner. For example if you took 10 men and 10 women, and gave them a number 1-10 each. If both ones ‘mated’ they could get pregnant easily, however if a 1 and 10 mated there chances was slim.

It was an interesting read, but I can’t remember who done the study to validate it. If anyone has read it, or knows of it, could they link it please.

Hi Everyone,

We've been TTC since September but had a break in between, started TTC properly again in April. We both need to lose some weight and need to eat healthier. I am regularly exercising now which is good, I've just enquired to book an appointment for acupuncture too.

I used to take Seven Seas but I did find this gave me indigestion/repeated on me and am now taking for the first month Pregnacare, this seems to be ok. However I've seen that some people have found the opposite, I'd try them and see how they suit you.

We were using Preseed and have just switched to Conceive Plus, not used yet, I didn't have a problem with PreSeed it was DP who wasn't keen so we'll see how we get on with that.

Sorry I can't give you definitive answers, but just a list of what I'm taking, happily take suggestions. Might look into this Soy vitamin too.

Seli3025 · 10/06/2019 18:54

Hello @Imjustme2019 thanks for your post! I'm really struggling to eat healthy! My DP on the other hand has lost 3 stone and is eating so clean/exercising too! He keeps telling me that TTC should be reason I stop eating rubbish but I just can't stop Sad

I'm glad you're exercising regularly keep it up!!! Any motivation would be amazing 😂

Serious note though I hope it doesn't affect TTC! This is month 2 of trying for Us, so we shall see! I write this whilst eating crackers 🤦🏻‍♀️

I look forward to seeing it seven sea helps! So far no side effects for me glad you found another that suited you! Will have to keep you all posted to see if it helps! I had bad spots on face (which is rare for me) but since taking these my face has cleared (not sure if it's to do with them but never know!)

Let us know how acupuncture goes!! 👍👍👍

Pre-seed! Seems to have worked well for us a few times. First cycle of trying this time so we will see.

ckc45d10 · 10/06/2019 19:16

Have you also considered CoQ10?

Imjustme2019 · 10/06/2019 20:48

@Seli3025 I know what you mean. I think there's a tendency to comfort eat when TTC and finding out it's a minefield makes you go for the extra bits of food. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Why isn't there a one size fits all?!?! I find that even though I'm exercising, doesn't stop me craving and eating a tonne of chocolate in between. My motivation is the feeling I get afterwards, it really helps my mental health. I now notice the difference if I haven't been for a few days. My work balance isn't great though (after a day of travelling, there just isn't enough time to get to the gym too) so I have had a couple of weeks where I've only been once recently, back happy to say I'm back to going 3 times a week.

Glad you've not had any side effects from the Seven Seas, some other ladies on here have said that they've had spots from the increase in folic acid with TTC vitamins, you've had the opposite, which just confirms my earlier statement of what works for one doesn't always work for another.

Never heard of CoQ10, I am trying a couple of new bits this month so I don't want to overload, may end up trying it in the end, but I don't want to go mad. Do you take it @ckc45d10?

EmeraldRubyShark · 11/06/2019 19:11

We set out TTC with gusto as I only have one Fallopian tube that’s not blocked, plus endometriosis. So we assumed and were advised it’d likely take quite a while, if it even happened at all. We conceived on the first cycle of trying, two weeks after starting TTC. We did the following:

  • I got down to a healthy BMI before trying: it was 24.9 beforehand and we started when I was at 21.2. Obviously I was barely just within a normal weight range initially but I wanted to improve my chances and not start pregnancy on the verge of being overweight. Being obese affects your chances of conception so if you’re not a healthy weight it’s crucial you get it down (it doesn’t just affect conception, being obese at conception carries a host of serious risks such as increased blood loss during birth, shoulder dystocia, it even makes it significantly more likely your baby will die from SIDS compared to babies of non obese mums). I’d strongly advise anyone who isn’t late thirties to get their weight under control before trying as it’s one of the most important things you can do for the health of your baby and you.
  • we used an ovulation cycle tracker on my phone called ‘my calendar’ and inputted when we had sex, my periods, and it gave us an estimation for ovulation
  • I used OPKs twice daily starting from seven days after my period began to catch my fertile window
  • once the OPK showed positive we banged every day for three days solid, but other than that we had sex at least every two days leading up to that period anyway as sperm needs to be ready and waiting for the egg
  • used pre-seed lube
  • took folic acid from three months prior to TTC
  • kept my legs in the air and the semen inside me for as long as possible, usually kept knickers and sanitary towels by the bed so I could throw one on and just go to sleep afterwards
  • during the fertile period if I hadn’t orgasmed from the sex I would masturbate straight after his ejaculation to encourage the cervical upsuck
  • we banned OH from masturbation during TTC

We could have done all of the above and still not fallen pregnant, some of them are probably old wives tales (the legs in the air for example, plenty of semen gets where it needs to be immediately from the force of ejaculation!), but nonetheless that’s my experience, clearly we were incredibly fortunate I happened to ovulate from the side with the functioning tube too but if that’s not an issue for you your chances are even better.

Even a perfectly healthy couple timing sex just right only has a 15-25% chance of conception each cycle. I recommend educating yourself on your cycle, how it all works, the luteal phase, ovulation. I had no idea beforehand that we only release one egg per cycle which is viable for such a tiny length of time (12-24 hours max) so you really need to be timing unless you can reliably have sex once every two days the entire month.

I actually found it really fun taking such a proactive approach to getting a baby inside me (as we called it haha), granted it might have gotten old months down the line but I felt good that whatever the outcome we weren’t risking missing any eggs. The day of ovulation I had an awful cold and OH was shattered from a twelve hour night shift but we tripped on anyway knowing the time was right and boom. I’m thirteen weeks now :)

kmammamalto · 11/06/2019 19:43

I think it's an old wives tale but has worked for me (twice!) Stick your hips in the air after dtd! Let gravity help! Grin

ckc45d10 · 11/06/2019 21:48

Yes, @Imjustme2019 for general fertility support, and it is a CoQ10 that is water and fat-soluble for better absorption. Good luck!
