Using OPK as HPT

Hey guys,

Anyone done the above? I’ve been working solid last couple of days haven’t been able to buy a HPT. Had a lot of strong OPK’s, no evidence on inet of it actually working as a HPT. Would love to hear peoples strories....

Yes, I know that’s what’s making me think I’m not. I had what I’d desribe as a “light period” on December 6th for a few days. But not enough to fill a pad or anything. It’s all just very confusing!! I’m trying not to get my hopes up as I really don’t “feel” like I am x

I had ZERO symptoms with my first pregnancy... none. Your OPK is darker than mine and I've had numerous positive tests. How can you stand not knowing?! 😫

Kate8989 · 31/12/2017 15:03

LOL I genuinely haven’t had chance to buy any. I’ll have to stick with my OPKS until my HPTS arrive from lovely Amazon!!! Xx

Hi OP
I definitely think that you are pregnant.

Out of curiosity (I'm 9 weeks pregnant) I did an OPK yesterday and it was ragingly positive like I've never had before. Like the ones in the photos.

I've got loads of the cheap ones left over so just thought I'd do it.

Technically, I don't think you need a PT...But obviously get one done ASAP!

Kate8989 · 31/12/2017 16:02

I appreciate all your optimism, I wish I could be the same xx

Hate to add to my pessimism, but I’ve had pinky discharge tonight followed by brown. So either another period is coming or my body is trying to do something lol. Really disappointed!! Xx

How are you today @Kate8989?

Kate8989 · 01/01/2018 11:38

Well I had full on period blood last night going into early hours- Happy New Year to me lol. Got brown discharge this morning but have a feeling that the blood may come back! My body is so messed up since coming off the pill. I had this exact same thing at begin of Dec xx

Do still POA HPT. I would put money on you bring pregnant.

Gem173 · 01/01/2018 14:31

Hey op I would still take a test just in case, if your not pregnant then it can confirm your suspicions. Lots of people can bleed in early pregnancy. If you take a test then you can if you aren’t already eat healthy and take prenatal vitamins especially folic acid as if you are 7 weeks gone it may be very important at this stage. Goodluck when testing x

Kate8989 · 01/01/2018 15:31

I’ve got some being delivered this week so will do one then. 100% I’m not though, I guess the readings been so high as this AF has being trying to rear ugly head!! X

Any news?

Kate8989 · 02/01/2018 19:20

Mmmm just that I’m having a full on period which I wasn’t expecting 😂. I 100% know that’s why my reading was so high on the OPK’s. Never mind, onwards and upwards trying again once this cycle is out of the way! My husband wants to book a holiday for the summer but all i keep thinking is babies babies babies! I couldn’t give two hoots about a holiday. Is that wrong of me? This time last year I was getting all excited about my wedding. This year I’m nervous and on edge about getting pregnant. Sorry for rambling, only people on here seem to understand.

Have you definitely ruled out pregnancy Kate? There is no good biochemical explanation for levels of LH to be that high - and cause that dark a test - before your period starts. Some people may get a very slight surge but nothing of the magnitude you seem to have seen. At least POAS to satisfy all of us nosy people please ;)!!

Kate8989 · 04/01/2018 14:21

Hey guys,

I wanted to give you all an update on what’s been going on. Thank you for all taking such an interest, it has meant a lot.
So last night, I had very heavy bleeding and clotting. I called NHS direct and they suspected a miscarriage. I took a HPT this morning, which was positive, went to my doctor today who confirmed miscarriage. Not sure how I feel as I didn’t officially know I was pregnant. I’ve got an appt at the hospital scheduled for next week to check everything is “out” I assume? Just resting up at the moment, drinking lots of fluids and staying close to my hot water bottle.
Thanks again everyone for all your support xx

So sorry for your lossFlowers but at least you know what a pregnant opk looks like :) xx best luck for the future

MiniAlphaBravo · 04/01/2018 16:32

I did suspect that when you said you had a period but didn't want to say. It's not a nice thing to go through (been there twice but now have two healthy dc) but it will be ok and you can start trying again when you are recovered, if you still want to Flowers

Kate8989 · 04/01/2018 16:35

Thank you! I’m more traumatised about what I went through last night. I mean I’ve never been so scared in my life at how quickly this stuff was coming out of me (sorry TMI) . I’m just sat here scared it’s going to happen again tonight. I’ve had some bleeding today but not profuse like yesterday xx

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 04/01/2018 16:50

Yes, that was my worry (alongside ectopic pregnancy) when you described what was happening. I'm so sorry this is happening to you - it's not fair, and it is mentally and physically traumatic.

This may be little consolation, but I have had 4 miscarriages and I believe that the first one is the most shocking / the worst. I also have 3 healthy children (and trying for a 4th) - so it is definitely not only possible but highly likely that your next pregnancy will stick.

Have they definitely confirmed miscarriage via beta HCG blood tests? The odds are that this will not end well, but some people do experience similar levels of heavy bleeding and still have the pregnancy succeed. Apologies if hope is not what you want xxx

Kate8989 · 04/01/2018 17:06

Thank you for talking to me about this. Only people that know are Mum and Husband, I don’t want to tell anyone else. But I want to talk about it if that makes any sense?
No the doctor didn’t do a blood test, I’m booked in for the hospital on Tuesday (earliest they could see me- great!) I’ve had two very strong HPT’ today. But I know they can be like that for a while after miscarriage. It’s weird seeing a positive test and not being overjoyed about it xx

Hi @Kate8989 I'm so sorry this happened. I experienced a mc in September (suspected ectopic) and at first I only told close family but now I openly talk about it. It's helped me to deal with it a lot more. Obviously it's up to you what you do but my personal experience was that once I started talking about it I realised more people had experienced it and talking to them really helped. I hope you get the answers you need soon.

DT2016 · 05/01/2018 07:53

Oh @Kate8989 I'm so sorry to read this. Hope you had a less traumatic night and got some rest. I know exactly how scary it can be Sad

Be kind to yourself, get at much rest as you can and know that you're alone. Thanks

ShutTheFridgeUp · 05/01/2018 17:44

Oh Kate, I'm so sorry to hear you're news. I suffered a miscarriage in November, and it's absolutely heartbreaking. This is a wonderful place to talk things through, I often find the anonymity of online easier than face to face talking.
We are all here for support. Sending much love your way.

DT2016 · 05/01/2018 18:22

My post earlier was obviously meant to read 'know that you're not alone' x

Kate8989 · 05/01/2018 18:30

Thank you, I appreciate all your kind words. It’s just so much to get my head around in such a short space of time. I hate going to the toilet at the moment as everytime I do it’s a reminder (and I’m scared!) I really am xx
