TTC while bfing

Hello!

I'm currently bfing my almost one year old, and I haven't had my period back yet.

Yes, this is awesome and I'm very pleased, but we want to TTC for #2 in Dec/Jan, and I have no idea when my fertile window is. Last time I tracked my periods and was very lucky to get accurate information about when ovulated through that.

But now I have no idea what to do! I didn't get into all the opk stuff last time, so I don't know....basically I don't know when to have sex! 😳

Does anyone have any advice? Or anyone in a similar boat? TIA!

@BlueeSpottyTiger sorry to hear of your MCs Flowers
Fingers crossed for you. My periods also returned but then I went on the pill. Been off a month now and still no bleed.

I think I want to night wean but I don't know how. He literally has no other method of getting himself back to sleep other than feeding. I decided yesterday I would not feed him between 2 an 4 as that sounded manageable an do that for a week an then make it between 1 an 4 an a week later 1 and 5... You get where I'm going with this. Anyway last night didn't go to plan at all. I initially fed him to sleep I think it was three times as he kept waking up when I moved him off me. An then he slept until 2.15!! And then I couldn't settle him without feeding, then he fed again at 4.40, 5.00 and 5.45, then slept till morning feed! Really want to get him nightweaned by new year Hmm

8DaysAWeek · 18/10/2017 12:04

Are you still bed sharing Violet?

Last night DS was attached most of the night :( bit gutted as we had him in his own room for a good couple of months and had essentially night weaned but for whatever reason he now screams bloody murder at the prospect of being left in his own room so he’s back in with us and feeding more than ever through the night. To be fair my period never returned when he was only feeding twice a day anyway so not sure what difference it’ll make. Convinced I’ll be one of the ones that has to completely stop to get cycling again

Violet1988 · 20/10/2017 09:09

Yes still bedsharing, I'm going to try the Sarah ockwell-smith method of gentle night weaning. Really do want to night wean but at night I'm so tired that sleep always wins an I give in an feed him as I know he will go straight back to sleep! 8days - Is it teething with your little one? I know when DSs teething he just wants to be feeding all night x

Hi ladies :-)
My 13mo DD feeds twice during the day (before naps), but feeds lots at night. I work 2 days a week and she's fine without on those two days, but I darent cut down on day time feeds as my DD has refused a bottle for the last two months and won't drink milk from a cup so I worry about her not getting enough calcium/fatty acids.
Periods haven't returned, so not much chance of a BFP! Have been intermittently spotty and felt pre-menstrual for about the last two months though (since returning to work and therefore having >12hrs between feeds on those days). Would ideally love to start ttc in January (I'm a teacher, so Mat leave that fits in with academic year is better for me, my boss and my classes). Guessing lots of the rest of you have similar reasons for timing?

8DaysAWeek · 20/10/2017 16:55

Hi crazy :)

Similarly want to try in the new year. Different reasons though I would prefer a closer age gap for mostly work/financial reasons. We’re only planning on having 2 DCs so it’ll work out that we’re totally skint for a shorter time then I can get back to working more hours when they’re at school and start actually being able to afford little luxuries that keep me sane, like new clothes/shoes when the rest of my wardrobe is falling apart or doesn’t fit Grin

I’ve also been having premenstrual symptoms the past couple of months like cramping, bloating, skin changes but still nothing.

I don’t know why he’s been bad through the night violet but he actually slept in his own bed last night for the first time in weeks so hopefully that’s a corner turned (she says very optimistically)!

Wow, where did you guys come from??? 😮

A day or so after I created this thread I couldn't find it. It wasn't on my lists, and nothing happened when I searched for it. I even wondered whether I'd dreamt creating it!

Many apologies! I would not have abandoned the thread if I knew it had survived.

Going to read all your posts now 😳

My period didn't return until I night weaned, then literally 2 weeks after it arrived. Something wasn't best pleased about but night weaning needed to happen (nursing aversion, returning to work + baby who woke every 45minutes). He was 14 months old. I stayed at a friend's for 3 nights, returning to join each morning and let DH cope with the nights, he says it wasn't too bad and after 3 nights it was done.

flutterby12 · 22/10/2017 19:47

Still Bf my nearly 1yr old and no period. I did have a positive OP last week though but who knows!

8DaysAWeek · 18/11/2017 00:39

How’s everyone doing?? Any positive news from anyone??

Foodylicious · 18/11/2017 11:58

Hi, can i join in?
Period car back at 15 months, LO is now 3.5 yrs and feeds morning and night most days.
TTC for 11 months Sad
Had some bloods done and progesterone ok, get positive opks every month.
Need to have some other blood re done as had them done on wrong day Angry

Feeling pretty blue about it all today.
Had a very early mc last Dec.

We are slowly weaning and he's missed the odd evening or morning feed the last couple of weeks.
Really don't want to push him before he's ready.

For those night weaning, we followed Jay Gordon's method and had a couple of toddler story books.
Sally weeks from night nursing is good. Real it for a few weeks before we started.
He was 2yrs 8 months then I think.

Foodylicious · 18/11/2017 11:59

'Sally weans from night nursing'

8DaysAWeek · 18/11/2017 12:17

Hi foody! I was thinking of trying Jay Gordon’s method for night weaning. We had DS sleeping in his own cot for weeks but then he got a bad D+V bug and since then he’s been in our bed and feeding all night long. Feeds loads during the day too. I’ve all but given up trying to drop feeds because it’s just too stressful and he has utter meltdowns if he doesn’t get it 3478 times a day. God forbid my boob isn’t out all day for him to come and go as he pleases Hmm hoping it’s a long phase... he’s only 15.5 months though so a good bit younger than your LO.

What other tests are you due?

crazychemist · 18/11/2017 16:50

Hi Guys,
The Jay Gordon method sounds good to me, thanks for pointing it out. We're delaying night weaning a bit longer as we hope to move house around Christmas, and I don't want to have to start from scratch if move throws DD. Kind of want to wait for school holidays though, so my DH can help out during the day if sleep goes badly. Guess that might mean waiting for Easter, when DD will be 18 months. Oh well, a bigger age gap isn't so bad!
Anyone got any good news?

Rosiebunny · 18/11/2017 18:03

Hello!

My DD is 14 months old and we were hoping for a 2 year age gap so I had my Mirena coil removed in October. No periods and no positive ovulation tests so far (literally no second line so I’ve stopped bothering with them). She breastfeeds on and off all day and night so I guess it’s not that surprising. Part of me feels like nature will just decide the age gap and that I should chill out, but part of me is very impatient. Mostly I’m just cross that I had the coil at all because it hurt like hell having it put in and it now seems like it was unnecessary anyway.

Hopefully we’ll all be pregnant in no time and will feel silly for having worried about it... I don’t want to wean before my little milk monster is ready.

X

Foodylicious · 18/11/2017 21:33

@ 8daysaweek, it's fsh (folicle stimulating hormone) and lh (lutenising hormone) and a couple of others.
Oh, and didn't mention before but i am 38 and OH is 46 so i really want this to happen soon!!!

Violet1988 · 21/11/2017 11:31

I have news. After came back on Saturday morning!!

Violet1988 · 21/11/2017 11:35

That should have been AF came back on Saturday morning, so currently cd4 cycle #1 TTC #2! Good luck everyone x

8DaysAWeek · 21/11/2017 11:45

Yay violet!!

Is your LO 17 months now?

Keep us updated on how your first cycle is Grin

8DaysAWeek · 21/11/2017 11:45

Oh and are you going to do any tracking like opks or temping?

Violet1988 · 21/11/2017 12:06

He will be 18 months on the 2nd of December. Going to do opks but not temping as we are up multiple times in the night feeding. An AF came back of its own accord so I didn't have to nightwean in the end. X

8DaysAWeek · 21/11/2017 12:11

Amazing Grin one step forward!!

8DaysAWeek · 28/12/2017 23:05

Any news?

I've just ordered maca root from amazon. No ppaf still (now 17 months pp).

It's supposed to increase libido as well as fertility so even if it does that I'll be happy! Happier with a period mind you...

flutterby12 · 29/12/2017 20:38

Still trying. I've had a couple of light periods and positive OPKs. Hoping for some positive news soon! DS still feeds a lot through night which is exhausting.

RooKangaroo · 04/01/2018 22:04

So pleased AF has come back for some people!

Fingers crossed for you.
