TTC while bfing

Hello!

I'm currently bfing my almost one year old, and I haven't had my period back yet.

Yes, this is awesome and I'm very pleased, but we want to TTC for #2 in Dec/Jan, and I have no idea when my fertile window is. Last time I tracked my periods and was very lucky to get accurate information about when ovulated through that.

But now I have no idea what to do! I didn't get into all the opk stuff last time, so I don't know....basically I don't know when to have sex! 😳

Does anyone have any advice? Or anyone in a similar boat? TIA!

Hi all,

This thread has gone a bit quiet, but just wanted to spread some hope. I'm still bfeeding multiple times day and night, but AF reappeared out of the blue on 20th Jan (DD was 16 months) and now had a BFP this morning. Hopefully some of you will also find that you get what you want without having to wean/night wean before long. Anyone else got any news?

Hi

This thread just popped up on Active. I'm TTC #4 while breastfeeding a 2 year old. Been having regular periods for 6m now.

I have fallen pregnant (with DD2 and 3) twice while bf a 15mo and 18mo respectively. Kelly mom has a great piece on the transition to full fertility. Often before your first period you don't ovulate at all and in cases where lactational amenorrhoea has been used as a contraceptive thos is often called a warning period to start using contraception again.

Hope this gives youall some hope that it can happen. But beware if you get pregnant while breastfeeding there is around a 1/10 chance of twins Wink

Rosie that's wonderful news!! Congratulations!!

Well I'm almost 19 months pp now and no ppaf. Went down to 1-2 day feeds, no night feeds, for about 4-6 weeks and zilch. DS got ill so the regular feeding resumed. Unfortunately all the reduced feeds were led by me and he never actually didn't want them, I just didn't give him them (distraction rather than total refusal) so it wasn't easy, and once I'd realised it wasn't making a difference anyway I decided there's no point fighting it.

It has been pretty stressful :( but love hearing positive stories to give me hope! DS still hasn't cut down feeds on his own accord so not even close to full weaning.

Happy mother's day all! Congratulations Rosie, nice to hear it gives me hope! Update from me, DS is now 21 months an I've now had six periods an am on cycle 5 of TTC. The first two cycles trying I got a positive ovulation test around day 16 an then period cd24/25 (so short luteal phase). Second two cycles I didn't get any positive ovulation test an had 25 day cycles. After initially thinking that I wouldn't have to nightwean as my period came back on its own after 4 failed cycles I decided to try anyway an see if nightweaning made any difference an if it would help LP. So I now feed him to sleep as usual an then when my husband comes to bed about 12 as soon as I can after that I go an sleep in the other bed. On a night where DS goes pretty much straight to sleep it means he doesn't feed 9-6. On a bad night like last night he wouldn't stop feeding at all an was attached and actively feeding until 2am. He wasn't going to give up then either I had to unlatch him an then he cried but was asleep in about ten seconds of my husband bouncing him!! Hes generally been brilliant at going to sleep with my husband, he wakes maybe twice an then is usually back asleep within a few minutes. He has massively increased his day feeding though, so who knows if it will help with TTC or not! Good luck for this month everyone xx
