Christmas Emoticons???

ready4motherhood · 13/11/2006 16:16

Know I know this is probably not the place for this thread, but I thought if I start it here, then we could post it in the correct place once we have some names??

I would love some Christmassy Emoticons to sprinkle (and when I say sprinkle you know that I am underplaying it ) onto my posts in the festive season. I know that some other gorgeous MNers have mentioned this. Soooooo... Mumsnet Bosses, if you are reading this, can we have some?? Puuuurrrlllleeeeeeeeeeaaaassse.

Who's with me??

Tickers - you know...

"7 minutes till I ovulate"

"9 days since AF last visited"

"14 years till I can stop obsessing over my cervical mucus"

You know!

ready4motherhood · 15/11/2006 13:30

Sorry Sneakymouse, I haven't got the foggiest idea what you are talking about?? I thought you were calling us "tickers" and the conception board being the "birthplace" of us "tickers" seriously. Is it a countdown clock??

OP posts:
sandcastles · 15/11/2006 13:30

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

NO....Tickerness!

ready4motherhood · 15/11/2006 13:31

what is everyone going on about "tickers" for???

OP posts:
sandcastles · 15/11/2006 13:32

ready4, here

Tickers

ready4motherhood · 15/11/2006 13:37

Oh. I see.

Well, I personally wouldn't have one of those, but they do look quite sweet, if you need help with your dates then would be handy. Wouldn't they????

I am guessing that these are "frowned upon"????

OP posts:
lemonaid · 15/11/2006 13:40

They are on Mumsnet but are virtually de rigeur on other ttc / pregnancy / parenting boards. Along with custom avatars, glitter signatures, and "blinkies" that portray your group allegiance or selected personal information...

sandcastles · 15/11/2006 13:41

Other sites have tickers and some people do rather 'overdo' it a tad.

One site I know of has signatures (pictures, mainly of their kids) and tickers and they have had Christmas ones since Nov 1st...I kid you not!

Some quite garrish too. Then they wonder why the site doesn't load...or is slow...dur.....

ready4motherhood · 15/11/2006 13:48

From a personal viewpoint I like the anonymity of mumsnet. I wouldn't want pictures of me (or my children when/if I have them) or the tickers, because then your intimate and personal information is there for all to see. If you choose to share it in a post that is something else I think??

I think that requesting festive emoticons is different to that though, but clearly some don't. I like to use the emoticons to add a little colour to my posts. But that's just me. And thought that festive ones would be a bit of fun

OP posts:
Twiglett · 15/11/2006 13:49

"20 minutes till my next bowel movement"

I do not see what is wrong in stickin' yer 'elbows out' and writing any emoticon you need

I despair of all this living for Christmas in NOVEMBER .. its November (could have made this post in October too).. Mid December .. beginning if you really really must .. but FGS its a YULE festival not an Autumn one .. stop living for the future

lemonaid · 15/11/2006 13:51

I think the connection is that the Other Boards typically have about 50 or more different emoticons available at any given time... Mumsnet's much more pared-down approach and relatively spartan collection (it was only very recently that they added a ninth emoticon) is for many posters a big part of its charm.

Personally I have no objection to a few temporary Christmas emoticons, but don't want it to get out of hand...

MrsMcJnr · 15/11/2006 13:55

Yeah to Festive Emoticons - gives us something else to think about aside from TTC. Can we have a drunk santa?

I know some of the sites you are talking about - the IT skills or time some people have is incredible, there are whole photo albums on some of them plus videos - would be good to have some emoticons for some more things than we do though like:

babydust
thank you
sorry
joking
hugs

in my humble opinion!

ready4motherhood · 15/11/2006 13:55

Twiglett... Interesting knowledge of your bowel movements, bet you never get caught short!! is that what you mean ??

FYI - I asked for the emoticons so that we could use them during the festive season
i.e. In the run up to Christmas. Getting people's opinions on if they would like them now so that we could give Mumsnet the time to sort them out if they liked the idea!!

Honestly... I just don't understand why waste their time commenting on something that irritates them so much.

MrsMcJnr · 15/11/2006 13:57

Ready step away from the thread hon, this is not doing you any good! Come back to the calm space!!

ready4motherhood · 15/11/2006 13:58

Lemonaid, I love the "pared down approach" otherwise I would not come on here every day. I am not a fan of OTT, bling and dazzle. But a little bit of colour and emoticons is not OTT in my opinion

OP posts:
flamesparrow · 15/11/2006 13:58

Christmas hatted smilies been produced...

Twiglett · 15/11/2006 13:59

So I should only comment on things I don't care about?

Twiglett · 15/11/2006 13:59

In my not-that-humble opinion...

babydust is a twee concept in no need of encouragement by emoticon

thank you can be covered by "Thank you " (or just "Thank you" for the minimalists)

sorry can be covered by "Sorry " (or "Sorry")

joking is already covered by and

hugs is also a bit twee but I will admit that as I am not yet totally drained of the milk of human kindness I have occasionally wanted a hugs emoticon on here. Just don't tell anyone or it will mess up my cynical persona [wonders idly if she actually has a cynical persona on MN, given some of the competition ]

Now a bat emoticon...

flutterbee · 15/11/2006 14:09

Yeeeeesssssss I want Christmas emoticons, don't worry about TwigMcScroogelett (Yes I think that should be your Christmas name) she will get into the spirit soon and after Christmas will be begging for the emoticons to stay.

hehe

MrsMcJnr · 15/11/2006 14:09

I clearly need to make better use of existing resources!

Twiglett · 15/11/2006 14:10

if you think I belittled you in this thread then I suggest you get a thicker skin

Twiglett · 15/11/2006 14:10

I am re-using my christmas name from last year .. curmudgeonlett

SneakyMouse · 15/11/2006 14:11

What would an emoticon for babydust look like?

Perhaps green with vom?
