anyone trying to conceive a boy?

I have two girls and I am just starting ttc, mainly I wont a happy Healy baby but we would like a boy, I have heard of a few diy methods, has any one had any luck with these?
A part of me thinks this is morally wrong but I can help the way I feel. I would still love a girl and my oldest who keeps asking for another sister would be over the moon.
Should I just leave it to chance?

Do the deed as late in your cycle as you can. Apparently male sperm swim faster than female so if you leave it as late as you can into your cycle, possible 13 days, then that could help. I conceived my daughter 11 days into my cycle which is quite early but female sperm swim slower so the egg was probably fertilised on day 13/14 or so. Hope this helps.

Well here is how its goes - male sperm like alkaline conditions and female sperm like acidic conditions, (plus female sperm are slower but live longer, and male sperm are faster but die sooner, so it will help to take that into account also) So for example if you are prone to cystitis then you are prone to having girls (unless you are having treatment for cystitis in which case the medication will neutralise the acidic conditions and thus result in a boy) if you are prone to thrush, you are prone to having boys (unless again your taking medication for it) the point is some women are prone to a certain sex as they have naturally acidic/alkaline conditions, obviously some people are victim to neither thrush or cystitis. If you are craving a girl you need to make yourself acidic, and if you crave a boy you need to make yourself alkaline!!

Helenemjay · 09/06/2006 17:08

Of course i may well be proven wrong on this, but it has always worked like a charm round here!

MummyToToby · 09/06/2006 19:09

how do you make yourself acidic or alkaline?

sunnydelight · 09/06/2006 19:12

Both my boys were conceived when I was trying - i.e. I knew when I was ovulating and had sex at the "right time" which makes sense as male sperm swim faster than female. DD was a total surprise and I would have sworn that I was nowhere near ovulation which supports the "female sperm hang around" theory!

ruty · 09/06/2006 19:22

oh yes how do you make yourself alkaline or acidic please? i think i am alkaline and i had a [gorgeous] boy, so wondering about how to make myself acidic for next time

ruty · 09/06/2006 19:27

or should i just say i am prone to thrush Grin Very glad it if helped me get my ds though...

clairemow · 09/06/2006 19:42

We tried the timing having sex thing to have a girl - first month abstained from 5 days before ovulation (I am v. regular) and no result at all. Second month, abstained from 3 days before ovulation - result: a second boy on the way, or so they said at the scan! Maybe we should have gone to 4 days! The stuff I've read on this suggests that it works maybe 55% of the time. Not great odds...!! But I do know people who swear by it.

MummyToToby · 09/06/2006 19:47

ruty were you taking medication at the time of conceiving your ds?

legophobe · 09/06/2006 20:20

I tried that timing thing for a girl 3 times and have 3 sons. Maybe I wasn't concentrating Grin

I'd quite like another boy now - too cute to describe, and noone wants a barbie (big bonus IMO). Think I'll leave it to chance this time.

ruty · 09/06/2006 20:42

No, MummyToToby, I wasn't. Get thrush from time to time, but probiotics keep it at bay. Why do you ask? Smile

MummyToToby · 09/06/2006 21:07

cos i think if you are on medication then that makes it acidic. but obviously you can't take medication if you haven't got the thrush at the time of trying to conceive!!

peachyClair · 09/06/2006 21:38

Happy healthy baby, or happy healhy baby? not calling you on your spelling, just wondered as I almost married a Healy and have frankly terrifying visions....

anyway. to business.

Have three boys. All were conceived on day of ovulation. have no girls, would dearly like one. In another life I'd consider a dh swap Wink but I'm not that type, dahlinks.

I do believe the old theory aboput girly girls get dd's, mainly coz I am a tough tomboy despite all the red shoes etc. But mostly, I think conception on ovulation works, and maybe diet as I am allergic to or hate most of the girl foods (milk, jam, etc etc)

Socci · 09/06/2006 21:57

The gender predictor didn't work for me - it predicted two boys and I have two girls.

plummymummy · 09/06/2006 23:06

Hello. Sorry I haven't read all the thread but just wanted to say that I heard doggy style position was more likely to produce a boy! Did in my case. Sorry again if tmi Grin

OLIVEBRANCH · 10/06/2006 01:02

I have a daughter and a son - daughter conceived three days before ovulation and son conceived on the day of ovulation.

hunkermunker · 10/06/2006 01:03

I think that trying to conceive one or t'other gender is a bit distasteful.

ruty · 10/06/2006 08:26

i have mixed feelings about it hunker - but i just feel lucky to have ds at all - and will feel the same if/when i have another baby, regardless of gender.

Helenemjay · 10/06/2006 11:35

Well make your diet as acidic/alkaline as possible and my mum always suggests a very mild acidic/alkaline 'wash' before sex, my mum is in her late 60's and she said in her day it was quite a common practice to have a 'wash up there' before sex to make conditions alkaline/acidic, although i know most people we have talked to have not done the wash bit but have spent at least a good couple of weeks consuming very acidic/alkaline food and drinks, lets face it you dont need to be a walk acid bath or whatever as we are talking sperm here - this is a microscopic scale so conitions need to be more acidic or more alkaline thats all, try drinking bicarb of soda here and there a couple of weeks before trying to conceive a boy.

plummymummy · 11/06/2006 10:53

Just wanted to say that we didn't try for one particular sex (was just saying that there is a theory about positions which we heard of afterwards). I actually secretly wanted a girl, but of course we were delighted when ds was born healthy and gorgeous.

peasmom · 23/06/2006 03:29

The Chinese gender predictor surely worked for me and for so many other people I know. Try this site. It is more accurate than the one pointed to by CMac.

yummummy · 27/06/2006 18:00

Isn't bicarbonate of soda used to clean ovens and things- it says on it "mild abrasive"...has anyone tried this successfully without stripping their stomach lining???

NotAnOtter · 27/06/2006 18:01
