What are the early signs of being pg?

Hello! I am new to mumsnet and looking for advice!

My husband and I made the big decision to ditch contraception and go for it! In fact, dh is less nervous about it all than I am and is very excited about the whole thing! However, having spent the whole of my adult life so far trying to avoid getting pregnant, I have no idea as to whether it is even possible!
What are the early signs that might give away that I might be pg? I don't expect it to happen for a while but it would be nice to know if there was anything I could look out for, apart from the lack of af of course! Thank you in advance! I am 29 and my husband is 30.
:)

You can smell everything and some smells you love are suddenly horrible (perfume coffee)
metallic taste in your mouth too
!Good luck !)

hotmama · 19/04/2006 15:22

With dd1 my boobs were very tender - didn't haapen with dd2.

Also, being very knackered!

Good luck. Smile

Hattie05 · 19/04/2006 15:28

Definitely the boobs! tiredness and weeing a lot also.

I also get period pains which make me think i'm not pg each time, but actually i am, and i find i get those period type pains every month for the first three months of pregnancy.

Good luck!

rummum · 19/04/2006 15:29

as soon as I conceived I was waking up in the night needing the loo... and I could have slept forever... these were before I had missed a period

tallmummy · 19/04/2006 16:03

Like Hattie I got period like pains as if I was about to come on but never did. Metallic taste in mouth and went off coffee. Noticed smells more, especially garlic.

carla · 19/04/2006 16:04

Second the tender boobs.

maazaa · 19/04/2006 16:10

Thank you so much, I will look out for those signs! I feel like it's all I can think about at the moment.....must calm down! Blush

Anything I could be doing to increase my chances?

Weeing more & sore boobs were the first signs for me too!

blueteddy · 19/04/2006 16:13

When I say sore boobs, I mean really sore - like my nipples had been scraped through gravel!!

Aero · 19/04/2006 16:15

All of the above, but the unmistakable sign for me was the overwhelming tirdeness in the middle of the day!!

bobblehead · 19/04/2006 16:17

No sore boobs for me and I couldn't get enough coffee! However I burped constantly and spat all over people whenever I spoke to them due to excess salivaBlush

kleggie · 19/04/2006 16:19

Welcome Maazaa and good luck!

I am also a first time ttc-er. Are you taking folic acid or some kind of supplement? Other than that, just eat healthily, cut down on alcohol (stop smoking if you do and if you can), get plenty of exercise and spend an inordinate amount of time on Mumsnet. Then, if you have enough time you could try having sex too Wink

Hope to see a lot more of you around MN!

CarolinaMooncup · 19/04/2006 16:23

getting tired v easily/needing to go to bed early (before 4 weeks). Sore boobs and getting up in the night to wee after another week or so.

brimfull · 19/04/2006 16:29

fanny feels different when you have sexBlush

this was the first sign I noticed

CarolinaMooncup · 19/04/2006 16:34

omg, ggirl you are right, I'd forgotten that! It did feel quite dry and uncomfortable to me.

I also had "restless legs" during the night early on, not sure if that is really a pg symptom though.

brimfull · 19/04/2006 16:38

mine felt fuller iykwim Grin

snuffy143 · 19/04/2006 16:41

I agree with the weird smell thing - I started finding previously pleasant smells really noxious. Later I barfed with smells!

sunchowder · 19/04/2006 16:42

Wanting to lop you breasts off with a sharp knife, sleeping on the highway while driving....wanting to sleep in a cave 24 x 7 and have food shoved in--no speaking or touching...those were my top indicators! :o

wannaBe1974 · 19/04/2006 16:51

hello and welcome to mn, and to ttc :).

there are a number of signs of early pregnancy, however I would say, ... don't look out for signs. There are numerous posts on the ttc forums every month saying "I'm on CD28, have very sore boobs, seem to be weeing more, feel a bit sick," ... etc, and then in the next couple of days the same person posts saying that "af has arrived". And I've been one of those on many occasions. A lot of the simptoms of early pregnancy, such as sore boobs, are also the simptoms of impending af, but because we don't look out for af when we're not ttc, we don't notice the simptoms. Just relax and it will happen when it is meant to happen. It's easy to get caught up on the ttc rollercoster, and ttc can be an all-consuming experience.

Ironically, this month I've had the exact opposite, no sore boobs, very small bleed but not af, have been looking out for the sore boobs this month because I've come to expect them as a simptom of AF and now that they haven't materialised I'm stuck thinking "I don't have any simptoms, maybe I'm pregnant this month?"

maazaa · 19/04/2006 16:59

I have often had sore boobs when on the pill and pre-menstrually when off it, so it'll be difficult to tell the difference. I'll have to tell myself off if I start getting obsessed by wee, boobs (and other bits!!!) and just relax!!!! DH is away for a couple of nights, so will chill!

Thank you for the welcoming messages, by the way! It feels nice to be able to talk about it as we aren't telling a soul that we are TTC! :)

I've always got sore boobs with periods too, but in my first pregnancy they were really really sore, but probably not until i was about 6 weeks. Thankfully this time round they are not so bad.

lucy5 · 19/04/2006 17:17

i always have sore boobs, but this is a different soreness, more at the front. Take a look at the ttc threads, there's a lovely group who have about 3 different threads going.

peachygirl · 19/04/2006 17:34

Hi Welcome Maazaa

come over and join us on the 'positive threads' we are all a very friendly bunch (forgive me if you are already there). somewhere Trace2 has posted a comprehensive list of symptoms. I'm a first timer too
