gender selection...sorry this is a bit longwinded![grin]

Hi. I have 2 beautiful DS's who I dote on and adore, they are 3 and 2. It's only been in the last 6 months but I have an incredibly strong urge for a girl, which is increasing the more month by month. Before, I was all about little boys and had always wanted sons, so I never saw this one coming! I try to not think about it too much and think 'what will be will be', but it keeps popping up in my mind, and im beginning to feel passionatley that I wont stop having babies till I finally get the balance of both sexes! Obviously DH is not keen on the idea of tonnes of children and TBH financially I think a third would be it for us, so if we go ahead and conceive I wondered if anyone had any advice, or anyone out there that can relate to me!
Also, I have bought tonnes of books on natural timings and diet. I would quite like to hear from anyone who has had any success with trying methods out!
Finally, in my searching, I have seen advertised something called Microsort which is a clinical way of sorting sperm for gender selection, if anyone knows anything about this or has already done this....any advice, success? Thanks!

Microsort is not available in this country as it has not been licenced. If you wished to go through the microsort process you would have to travel abroad and no doubt pay a large sum of money to undergo IVF in order to have the girl you desire. Also, you should bear in mind the heartache that can go with IVF. I take it that as you have two boys already these were conceived naturally? IVF is a very emotional thing to go through, and it can be very expensive and with no guarantees.

I understand. I too have 2 gorgeous boys but the nagging desire for a girl is ever present.Would def recommend the website linked below. I am a constant lurker there.

Many people around here def don't understnd but I know its hard to put into works isn't it. LIke you mt boys are everything and I know another would be just as great but girls a a different experience and one that I would like.

Thanks Muppety, its so nice to hear from someone who understands my feelings! It is def hard to put into words, because it's never about being ungrateful for what we have, I look at my boys everyday and feel grateful and wouldnt change them for the world. Its just something i'd love to experience in the future. Even for my DH and DB's, i think it's fantastic for men/brothers to experience daughters/sisters, DH never had any sisters so I'd love him to experience life with girls in a family, it teaches men ALOT about us!
wannabe1974 -Thanks for the info, As far as I've found so far, Microsort doesnt have to involve IVF, you can just do the sperm sorting on it's own, with a 90% accuracy of having a girl, but the problem is it might take a few cycles or more before you fall pregnant, which obviously costs every cycle! Thats why a lot of families all over the world go for the IVF option cause its 100% accurate with the gender, that's if you're fortunate enough to fall first time. In America they call it 'family balancing'! Cant believe they actually have a term for it over there! However, on one hand, Im not sure if I feel I could do the IVF thing for all the reasons you said, it seems like a huge thing to go through. I'm not sure if it sits right with me ethically as I am able to fall naturally? Although part of me thinks its going on all over the world and is legal in other countries, and it only seems extreme because we're a generation new to it, in twenty years time when Ive finished having babies and its all passed my child bearing time, it'll probably be the 'norm' and i'll kick myself for not grabbing the oppurtunity with both hands, afterall what you get out of it is a lifetime of a priceless mother/daughter relationship. Anyway I def dont want to stir up a debate on ethics, but I wondered if there was anyone out there who had done any type of method and succeeded in the desired gender, who could offer any advice/opinion? Muppety - how old are your two DS's? Are you thinking about having any more soon?

This is not scientific exactly but it's how my parents 'engineered' my sister. My father (doctor) researched it and this method is said to increase your chances of having a girl significantly. My mum even recommended it to our blacksmith (with 3 sons) and he (well, his wife) had a girl fourth time - and he shod our horses for free as he promised.
Ok, this is what you do - at about the right time of the month, of course. The bloke ejaculates first , but not through intercourse (how you do this is up to you ). Then, as soon as he can manage it again, you have sex. The 'science' behind this is that sperm are a mixture of boys and girls, with the stronger and longer lived sperms being female. The first ejaculate has an equal mix of 'fresh' boy and girl sperms. The second ejaculate (from the bottom of the bag?) has a higher proportion of these stronger, older, female sperm. And thereby you increase your chances of a girl. Worth a try if nothing else is possible?? But don't sue me if you get a boy!

I have heard that you can have sex a few days before you ovulate to try for a girl. This operates on the same theory of longer living X sperm.

There is another method besides microsort, called the Ericcson method, used in the Birmingham Gender clinic. Only 73 percent effective though.
With microsort, if you travel to US you can use an insemination method rather than IVF, but it usually takes a few goes. Dh is against microsort because the sperm is sorted using uv light. He's worried this could cause genetic abnormalities and tbh I think he has a point! Also they don't appear to answer the phone or reply to e-mails.

I'm in the same club....I've had 4 gorgeous sons, and have such a strong deep seated urge for a daughter, for everyone's benefit! I've read most of the 'natural' stuff but I've never heard of Cha's fab sounding method before - this month I tried the timing (lots of sex pre ovulation, then stop), lots of dairy, no salty food...... so it remains to be seen...... Maybe next month we'll be trying out the Cha alternative.... watch this space! Good luck to the rest of you too!

LOL sonya Sonyasingapore, I lived on such bland food for months before ttc ds3 and drank gallons of milk. Everyone I knew wondered why I was turning into such a health freak, checking everything for salt.

My friend was told about the DrJonas method and has just subsribed to that to try for a son. Has anyone heard of this method apparantly its 97% accurate. From reading the website im not convinced myself but the recommendation came from a top fertility consultant in the Midlands.

I sympathise too, I have three sosn whom I wouldn't change for the world but I would asmit to being desperate for a girl. We tried all the ovulation date sex methods and got DS3, though I admit not following the dietary advice in Hazel Chesterton-Smith's (is that her name? Something like that) book, as I am allergic to a fair bit of what she recommends for a girl. I always say that I am extra proud of DS3, as he must have been extra special to get through all the boy traps we laid in his path .

Dh wouldn't have any truck with wearing a jock strap before sex mind you!

I shall try Cha's method when I come to try for no.4, I always planned 4 anyhow but the time is not right at the moment.

Peachyclair, thats how I feel about ds3, some boy to be able to get past the "girl" methods. I wouldn't want to swap any of mine for any girl either but would like a little pink bundle.

My boys are 2 and 8m. Not planning another yet but have res the Hazel CP book and lurk on the site mentioned for tips. I am not really convinced any of it works but I suppose it just feels as if you are trying.

Just one thing I am sure in her book Hazel CP says the Erricson/microsrt type methods are less reliable for a girl as you inseminate at ovulation.

Everyone in RL I know seems to have girls and the odd thing is non of them have this desire for a boy. At the moment I think 3 is my max nukber of children. I don't do pregnancy well and would need another section. Only time will tell though

muppety, I swallowed the Hazel CP book and did it inside-out so think she's a bit cheeky dissing the Ericcson method cos her method didn't work for me! I think the timing thing could be a myth, perpetuated by the 50% of people it "works" for!

Oh and microsort wasn't invented when she wrote her book, though Ericsson was.

Thanks Chipmonkey, I looked into the Birmingham clinic, and there are sister ones in London and Glasgow. They offer the Ericcson sperm separation with approx 70-75% chance of gender success, still not sure what I think of those odd when it costs £4900!
BTW-There is a clinic in London called The Rainsbury Clinic that seems really interesting and really informative website. It was where that lady (featured in the press last August, who had 4 boys and then finally got her twin girls!) Worth a look.

girly - we conceived dd2 using the Dr Shettles method - primarily the theory that female sperm are slower and stronger than male sperm, so we timed intercourse for 3 days before ovulation (the idea being that the male sperm wouuld have all died by the time the egg was released).

Of course, the chances of conceiving a girl are 50/50 anyway, so we may have just been lucky .
