I would march into your doctors (with an appt obviously hehe!) and demand a smear. Explain obviously something is amiss due to your period going awol and you want every avenue explored. They have to give you a smear. Its for the good of your health. Don't take no for an answer! You have got to have one...

And they really aren't that bad. I'm just a wimp! I'd rather have a baby any day, but smears really are a doddle!

Got to get boys from school now - will be back!

mumswish · 19/10/2005 14:59

ok dont be long tho, I'm bored at work now!! LOL

Coathanger · 19/10/2005 15:21

Back now! Only had to pick one up - DS1 is going to a friends for tea!

Promise me MW you will make an appt for a smear when you get your results. Make it clear to your GP that you want one, you feel you should have one and know you are entitled to one. Promise me! There is a reason for these tests and it is an important one.

mumswish · 19/10/2005 15:37

ok I promise LOL

I'll find out what my results are first and then when I go in to get my results if they say then that i'm not pg I'll get them to do my smear before I am pg. Do I have to take time off ttcing to wait for smear results?

Coathanger · 19/10/2005 15:39

I would n't worry. You have a smear in the middle of your cycle, so its about the time you would OV anyway so you probably wouldn't be PG. I wouldn't stop TTCing TBH

mumswish · 19/10/2005 15:41

I'm not really ttcing now. I'm just going with the flow. We've decided that if I'm not pg by new year then we'll "try" properly.

Whats a smear for exactly? Cos I heard it was to test if you had sexually transmitted diseases and if thats all its for its hardly worth me getting one. LOL

Coathanger · 19/10/2005 15:42

Mumswish - I can't believe you don't know what its for, Hun!! It to test for cervical cancer. They take a sample of cells from your cervix (painless) and then examine them for abnormal cells.

mumswish · 19/10/2005 15:44

ok now I dont want it done even more. Mums is very stupid!! LOL

I thought they'd brought out a new drug or are soon to bring out a new drug that stops cervical cancer btw?

If they're gonna remove cells wont that hurt? and bleed?

Diddle · 19/10/2005 15:44

mumswish - i wouldn't stop ttc, no reason to really, and definitly have a smear asap. Can't you just book one in with the nurse, our doctors don't do the smears you have to have an appointment with the nurse for it, just tell whoever answers from reception, please don't worry, i really think you have an infection too, sounds just like it. I'm sure something would have happened by now if it were an ectopic, or if the docs thought it was they wouldn't have sent you home. If you're at all worried about the pains you have sod the docs and go to A&E they'll sort you out

OP posts:
Coathanger · 19/10/2005 15:46

It doesn't hurt at all, and it can bleed but not heavy, just a bit of spotting. Nothing serious! It really is a 2 minute procedure. Lay on yer back - open wide - 2 mins and all done! KNicks back on and on yer way home! Hehe!!

mumswish · 19/10/2005 15:46

ah yeh but if it is an infection how stupid would I look then? LOL>>>> rush to a&e to tell me that I've got thrush or something stupid like that (although thrush I'd know about) I'm just worried it could be ectopic because its mostly on one side and feels like somethings stretching (like pg did) but only on one side, thats what was making me think something was wrong

mumswish · 19/10/2005 15:47

I have to take my knick off??!?!?!? LOL

Diddle · 19/10/2005 15:47

better to be safe than sorry mums, i think i'd rather know whats going on and risk embarrassment, tell them how naff your docs are and you were mega worried.
don't worry about a smear, it is just uncomfortable not painful and well worth it.

OP posts:
mumswish · 19/10/2005 15:52

Maybe I'll just ring docs (or pop in) today and ask if theyve had my results back because I'm in alot of pain (getting worse each day) and I need to know whats wrong cos Its scaring me now. If I lay it on thick they might let me see someone then. I havent actually seen a doc yet just spoke to someone on the phone.

Diddle · 19/10/2005 15:56

mums - what are the pains like, are they keeping you awake at night. is ti like period pains or a weird ache?

OP posts:
mumswish · 19/10/2005 16:00

ok here goes.

I've got an stabbing pain in my abdomen nothing like period pains this one actually hurts instead of being uncomfortable. It hurts more if I lean forward and mostly on my left hand side. If I press my belly (or just below my belly) I can feel something in there (not sure if its muscle but its something new) If I dont pee as soon as I need to it hurts more but all over instead of just that one side. It even hurts when I'm walking if I step too heavy (iykwim) I hope you understand that,

Coathanger · 19/10/2005 16:05

God, MW it sounds really bad!! Get yourself to A&E!! Wierd question coming now.....Do you use tampons?

mumswish · 19/10/2005 16:06

Yeh why? Think there might be one or part of one stuck up there?

slinkstah · 19/10/2005 16:11

hi everyone, mumswish i reckon you should go drs asap this pain sounds bad, maybe eptopic( i have no experience of this though) or maybe infection. sound like the pain might be in your ovary.

mumswish · 19/10/2005 16:12

I'm off to the drs tonight after work and I'm going to demand (in the nicest possible way) to be seen. Hopefully!

Coathanger · 19/10/2005 16:18

Hers what I think it could be :

Bladder infection
Ovarian cyst
Retained Tampon
Ectopic PG (don't want to scare you though)

GET SEEN NOW!!!!!

mumswish · 19/10/2005 16:21

ok, I've just done something really stupid!! I typed in my symptoms, "stabbing pain" Abdomin and I got back loads of things PCOS??!?!?!?!?! I know I've just probably scared myself silly for no reason. You cant suddenly get PCOS can you

Coathanger · 19/10/2005 16:34

Well, the pill is after all an artificial hormaone and may have been masking the signs of PCOS. Now the pill is wearing off, you might now be getting the symptoms. Mums this is all the more reason to be seeing a GP. But , don't see an old DOc, try and see a more modern thinking one.

carly82 · 19/10/2005 16:39

MW- what site did you look at to put your symptoms i have been looking for a similar site with no joy?
afternnon to all others xx
