So Sorry MM
I know it's no concelation but maybe its for the best with you now yet knowing the situation with DH!

gingernut · 01/10/2003 13:09

pollingfold - did you try the temping and/or see your doctor about your long cycles? I don't know the answer to your question I'm afraid. With such long cycles OPKs must cost you a fortune .

jodee · 01/10/2003 13:40

Hi BigBird, I think will start temping, I need a particular type of thermometer,is that right?

BigBird · 01/10/2003 14:33

jodee - yep a basal thermometer (digital to 2 decimal places). I bought the temping kit in Boots (thermometer and a book for charting) and have been using it for 4 mts now.

Egypt · 01/10/2003 21:05

pollingfold
it doesnt sound like you are ov to me. i was the same. got more than one surge in a cycle, because LH and FSH levels were mucked up. try temping and see if that shows any consistency and def go to your gp. you could have messed up hormones or even pco which i had. ended up taking treatment and now pregnant. dont worry, its simple to sort, whatever it is, but with such long cycles i should be surprised if you are ov. opks arent really reliable if your fsh and lh levels are wrong as it detects lh surges which will happen often.

Hi BigBird, went and got the Boots kit today, so will start tomorrow morning. Still got a couple of OPK sticks to use up from last month, so it will be interesting to see if both methods tie in - should have started temping months ago really!

BigBird · 02/10/2003 09:40

jodee - thats what I did - temps and opk for a mth or so till I saw a pattern and now temping alone is enough. (saves a bit of cash )

Question for those in the know:

I have an appt for doc on monday to get day 21 bloods done. It will actually be cd22 but they aren't open on Sunday. BUT my temp rose on cd 14, which I assume means ov around cd13 - and 7 days after that is Saturday.
Should I rearrange and go on Saturday or does a day or two either way really make a difference. Also - are you better to go a day early or a day late ? I know its measuring progesterone so just wondered if it has to be so precise to be 7 days post ov ???

Bogwoppit · 02/10/2003 09:57

bigbird - I have no idea. My doc never even suggested doing day 21 bloods, just the day 3 ones for LH/FSH
Hopefully someone will be able to help you out

quackers · 02/10/2003 10:25

Hi BB, my doc told me it didn't matter a couple of days either way. So don't worry about that. esp as you think you ov day 13/14. Progesterone stsrts to be produced straight after ov, so if you have ov, it will defo show by then, good luck chuck!! Guys, not able to post as much at mo, bosses clamping down in internet etc..., so trying to do it more from home!!!!

niknik · 02/10/2003 11:06

Bogwoppit I would think that the specialist when you see him will deffo check your Day 21 bloods as it confirms that you are Ovulating

Egypt · 02/10/2003 18:15

BB you will be fine. prog rises 1 week after ov and stays for 5 days.

Dear all
i have just found this web site as we too are planning our first baby. After reading your messages, I feel a bit nervous as I don't get all the shorthand! (being a new girl!) Can someone give some advice on the best times to get pregnant and how you can tell when they are? Sorry if I sound a bit dim, it's very new to me.
thanks
Karen

BigBird · 03/10/2003 13:01

KarenZ - welcome.
Start taking folic acid now if you are not already.
If your cycles are regular then chances are you ovulate approx 14 days before the day your period starts (ie if your cycle is 30 days then it might be day 16). This is not always the case and you can use Persona, temping, ovulation predictor kits (OPKS) and monitoring mucus to estimate when ovulation is happening. It's recommended you bd (baby dance ie. have sex) every 2 days around ovulation...for a woman with a 28 day cycle you could bd on day 12, 14, 16 and probably be fine...or maybe also do day 10 and 18 if you are up to it

The lingo :
cd1 is the first day of your period (cycle day 1)
cd2 etc follows that until the last day of your cycle (eg cd28).
bd - sex
ov - ovulation
cm - cervical mucous
af - period (aunt Flow!)

Also - fertilityfriend.com have a handy downloadable handbook which has tonnes of information in it.

Hi all, wonder if anyone ever had something like this.....

Had m/c in July, no period until about 4 weeks ago (in fact no period since birth of son who was one on Sat). Was sure I ovd around 2 weeks ago - so sure (mucus (sorry), slight pain etc) that I didn't bother doing Ovulation test. However, at weekend I defo ovd...did Ovulation test, and got surge for 2 days. Is it poss to ovulate twice in cycle with no af in between???

Thanks

lazyeye · 06/10/2003 11:24

Thanks Twiglett - I think the truth is I'm still a bit all over the place cycle wise after m/c but am so desperate tc that am trying to force some sort of a pattern.....will just try to be patient. Ho hum. Thanks anyway

quackers · 06/10/2003 16:03

Lazyeye - Hi! Sorry for your loss. I too have had similar things going on. Last month had every possible sign of ov, but didn't until 8 days later. I did read an article and I'm kicking myself now where it is, as it said there can be more than one occasion of ov activity in any one cycle but it is unlikely to result in the production of a viable egg. It occurs esp after m/c so that is what I'm putting it down to. This month it happened agin, all the signs yesterday, but no surge, I know it will take a while again to settle so hope this helps you too!!xxx
Hi to allxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Egypt · 06/10/2003 18:50

hi quackers, good to hear from you. sorry to hear that ov is still a pain. hope it sorts itself out soon. xxxxx

quackers · 08/10/2003 15:20

Hi Egypt, hope all is well with you and your little bundle to be!
OV is ok, I'm doing alright thanks. Think it will be day 16 instead of 19, as I have a LH line starting to get stronger, now day 12. So doing well, AF is good , no after bleeds like the first m/c. Starting a new job, losing a little weight, slow but but steady - well, would be quicker but I LOVE my booze!!!
How is everyone?

Bogwoppit · 08/10/2003 15:57

Well I think my temping is all to pot this month. I have had a tooth infection & antibiotics, plus no sleep &now a bad cold.
temp seems to go up & down like a yo yo - no obvious rise.
did get a really strong LH surge tho.
AF due on Sat. fingers crossed, but not too hopeful as I have all the preAF signs

madgirl · 08/10/2003 16:06

Trying not to obsess quite as much this month. Waiting patiently to start weeing on sticks.

quackers · 08/10/2003 16:10
